Gas turbine (GT) power plants operating in arid climates suffer a decrease in output power during the hot summer months because of the high specific volume of air drawn by the compressor. Cooling the air intake to the compressor has been widely used to mitigate this shortcoming. Energy and exergy analysis of a GT Brayton cycle coupled to a refrigeration air cooling unit shows a promise for increasing the output power with a little decrease in thermal efficiency. A thermo-economics algorithm is developed to estimate the economic feasibility of the cooling system. The analysis is applied to an open cycle, HITACHI-FS7001B GT plant at the industrial city of Yanbu (Latitude 24o 05” N and longitude 38o E) by the Red Sea in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Result show that the enhancement in output power depends on the degree of chilling the air intake to the compressor (a 12 - 22 K decrease is achieved). For this case study, maximum power gain ratio (PGR) is 15.46% (average of 12.25%), at an insignificant decrease in thermal efficiency. The second law analysis show that the exergetic power gain ratio drops to an average 8.5%. The cost of adding the air cooling system is also investigated and a cost function is derived that incorporates time-dependent meteorological data, operation characteristics of the GT and the air intake cooling system and other relevant parameters such as interest rate, lifetime, and operation and maintenance costs. The profit of adding the air cooling system is calculated for different electricity tariff.

From the marine environment, woodlice gradually colonized terrestrial areas benefiting from the symbiotic relationship with the bacterial community that they host. Indeed, they constitute the only group of Oniscidea suborder that has succeed to accomplish their lives in terrestrial even desert surfaces. Herein they play an important role in the dynamic of ecosystems and the decomposition of litter. So to enhance our understanding of the sea-land transition and other process like decomposition and digestion of detritus, we studied the bacterial community associated with 11 specimens of terrestrial isopods belonging to six species using a Culture independent approach (DGGE). Bands sequencing showed that the cosmopolitan species Porcellionides pruinosus has the most microbial diversity. Screening demonstrated the predominance of Proteobacteria followed by members from Actinobacteria, Firmicutes and Cyanobacteria phyla. In fact we detected some symbionts like Wolbachia, Mycoplasma and Spiroplasma for the first time in a terrestrial isopod species.

Objective: To investigate the susceptibility to some conventional and non-conventional insecticides in laboratory and field larval populations of the West Nile vector Culex pipiens L.(Cx. pipiens), the dominant species in Jeddah Province, Saudi ***: The tested conventional insecticides were Actikil and Pesgard, while the nonconventional ones were Bacilod, Dudim and Baycidal. Probit analysis and photomicroscopical observations were carried out to shed light on acute toxicity in laboratory and field Cx. pipiens ***: Cx. pipiens were more susceptible to Pesgard(LC50: 0.045 and 0.032 mg/L)than Actikil(0.052 and 0.038 mg/L) and Bacilod(0.129 and 0.104 mg/L), for the field and laboratory strains, respectively. Results showed that treatments with the chitin synthesis inhibitor Dudim and Baycidal evoked morphological effects similar to those induced by other insect growth regulators. According to IC50 values obtained(concentration which to inhibit the emergence of 50% of mosquito adults), the compound Dudim(0.000 3 and 0.000 1 mg/L) was more effective against Cx. pipiens L. mosquitoes than Baycidal(0.000 4 and 0.000 3 mg/L) for both the field and laboratory strains, ***: Our results provide baseline data to enhance control programs and orient public health decisions on the selection of pesticides against mosquito vectors in Saudi Arabia.

There are many oil and gas conventional reservoirs in Saudi Arabia have been exploited, but still there are also need to be explored and produced especially in the fields of unconventional shale gas. Investigation the extending of rock source of the hot shale gas Qusaiba formation in North part of Saudi Arabia, the most important rock source in the word, is crucial for one of the most promising shallow shale gas reservoir in the region. Most previous studies in the area were a geological, petrographical, petrophysical, geochemical characteristics or well logs studies which are not enough to show the continuously of the reservoir and map the diverse of the depth changes. The lack of the geophysical studies in the area inspiring to perform such study and image how the continuously and behavior of the reservoir subsurface. Imaging the geological stratigraphy of area utilizing a multiple geophysical methods is a crucial step to disclosure the unconventional reservoir and understand the source rock extending underneath the North region of Saudi Arabia. A good achievement is shown in this study using this integration of seismic migrated image and gravity geological model. This integration provides a robust and true subsurface geological formations, structures, and determined thickness and depth of the Lower Silurian Sharawra Qusaiba and Sarah formations. This work would be a valuable contribution in unconventional reservoirs exploration in shale gas in Saudi Arabia.

The Estimation of Soil Organic Matter Variation in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Using Remote Sensing Data

Soil organic matter (SOM) is an important term to realize soil productivity and quality that is extremely influential on soil physical, chemical and biological processes;SOM is one of the key soil properties controlling nutrient budgets in agricultural production systems and is an important index of soil productivity. Remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques were used to assess organic matter in soil and determine the relationship between measures SOM in field and digital data to calculate or obtain the correlation coefficients applied to evaluate the strength and direction of the linear relationships. In this study Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) and Bare Soil Index (BSI) were used. The results show that the relationship between vegetation indices (NDVI, SAVI) and SOM in whole study area was (R2 = 0.19, p 2 = 0.01, p 2 = 0.13, p 2 = 0.11, p < 0.05), soil organic carbon increases with increasing NDVI and decreasing BSI. NDVI, SAVI and BSI were considered a useful index to detect the spatial distribution of SOM concentrations and mapping using remote sensing data.

Very Early C-Reactive Protein Levels after Acute Myocardial Infarction Predict Early Outcome and Late Prognosis

Objectives: C-reactive protein (CRP) blood levels are associated with atherosclerosis and increased incidence of coronary events. Aim: To evaluate the utility for risk stratification of very early blood CRP levels, during the first 6 hours after the onset of chest pain, in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: 118 patients with AMI, 88 men, age 63.3 ± 8 yrs, were evaluated, and CRP was assessed within the first 6 hours after the onset of chest pains. Results: CRP level in all patients was 15.7 ± 14.1 mg/L. Its level increased with higher Killip class, 11.2 ± 5 mg/L in class 1, and 62 ± 7 mg/L in class 4 (p 40% (p < 0.01). Higher CRP values were found in patients with 3 vessel coronary artery diseases 20.7 ± 8 mg/L, vs. 8.7 ± 4 mg/L with 2 and 1 vessel disease (p < 0.05). Patients with in-hospital complications had higher CRP, 33.7 ± 10 mg/L vs. 12.1 ± 5 mg/L in those without (p < 0.001). Eight patients died at one-year follow-up. The CRP levels on admission in patients who died during the first year of follow-up, 45.2 ± 7.7 mg/L were higher than those in the survivors without adverse events, 11.6 ± 5 mg/L (p < 0.001). Admission CRP level in patients re-admitted with unstable angina, re-infarction or those who had coronary bypass surgery was similar to that in those who were not. Conclusions: Very early blood CRP levels in patients with AMI predict functional capacity, systolic left ventricular function, extent of coronary artery disease, early and short term complications and 1-year mortality but not recurrent myocardial ischemic events.

An Atypical Cause of Abdominal Pain in an Elderly Patient

Background: Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP), or IgA vasculitis, is the most common vasculitis in children and is characterized by four symptoms: palpable purpura with no concurrent thrombocytopenia or coagulopathy, arthritis/ arthralgias, abdominal pain, and renal disease. HSP does occur in older patients at a much lower frequency. Objective: To discuss the atypical presentation of HSP in an elderly adult and the increased nephrogenic risks that are involved in this patient group. Case Presentation: We present the history, physical findings, laboratory results, and the clinical course of a 74-year-old Caucasian male with an atypical presentation of HSP. Our patient presented with severe gastrointestinal and cutaneous symptoms which occurred after the onset of abdominal pain. Biopsies demonstrated leukocytoclastic vasculitis in the skin and acute inflammation and hemorrhage in the gastrointestinal tract. The diagnosis was confirmed as IgA vasculitis following the renal biopsy. The patient’s symptoms improved with the administration of methylprednisolone. Conclusion: In adults with HSP there is greater concern regarding renal involvement and a greater risk of developing end-stage renal disease compared to children. The importance of recognizing HSP in the elderly is imperative for early diagnosis and appropriate treatment to limit renal damage.

The Impact of Lean Six Sigma Practices on Physiotherapy Services Quality at UNRWA Healthcare Centers, Gaza Strip, Palestine

Integrating Lean and Six Sigma found a powerful business tool for the strategy improvement process and saving time is produced. The main aim of this study is to identify the impact of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practices on physiotherapy service quality at healthcare centers of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), using a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected using a questionnaire distributed among 49 physiotherapists working at UNRWA healthcare centers as a census sampling method between July 2016 and August 2017, following the stratified random sampling method. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to analyze the collected data. The results revealed that there was a statistically significant relationship between Lean Six Sigma (LSS) dimensions and the quality of healthcare services provided in physiotherapy units at the UNRWA healthcare centers. Moreover, the application of Lean Six Sigma dimensions was adopted at 81% of UNRWA healthcare centers. Moreover, the percentage of patients’ satisfaction regarding the quality of healthcare services provided in physiotherapy units was 89%. The study emphasized the effectiveness of Lean Six Sigma dimensions application on the quality healthcare services provided in physiotherapy units at the UNRWA healthcare centers. Furthermore, employee training and reward according to a needs assessment to implement Lean Six Sigma successfully is highly recommended.

The particularities of Wireless Sensor Networks require specially designed protocols. Nodes in these networks often possess limited access to energy (usually supplied by batteries), which imposes energy constraints. Additionally, WSNs are commonly deployed in monitoring applications, which may intend to cover large areas. Several techniques have been proposed to improve energy-balance, coverage area or both at the same time. In this paper, an alternative solution is presented. It consists of three main components: Fuzzy C-Means for network clustering, a cluster head rotation mechanism and a sleep scheduling algorithm based on a modified version of Particle Swarm Optimization. Results show that this solution is able to provide a configurable routing protocol that offers reduced energy consumption, while keeping highcoverage area.
