Effects of fractional-order PI controller on delay margin in single-area delayed load frequency control systems

This study aims to determine the improvement effect on the delay margin if fractional-order proportional integral(PI) controller is used in the control of a singlearea delayed load frequency control(LFC) system. The delay margin of the system with fractional-order PI control has been obtained for various fractional integral orders and the effect of them has been shown on the delay margin as a third controller parameter. Furthermore,the stability of the system that is either under or over the delay margin is examined by generalized modified Mikhailov *** stability results obtained have been confirmed numerically in time domain. It is demonstrated that the proposed controller for delayed LFC system provides more flexibility on delay margin according to integer-order PI controller.

Development of a Renewable Energy Based DC Excitation System in a Micro Hydro Power Plant

MHPPs （micro hydro power plants） have become prominent in hydropower plants as a solution to provide the energy demands of the grid. In this study, a new hybrid renewable energy based DC excitation system for synchronous generator in the developed MHPP system is introduced. Proposed hybrid DC excitation system consists of solar ＆ hydrogen energy based power generating systems. Hybrid renewable energy based system is used for the excitation of the synchronous generator in the MHPP test system. The renewables are used as a secondary energy source to provide the excitation current to a synchronous generator that generates energy in MHPP. A PV （photovoltaic） array is used as the main source of excitation, and a FC （fuel cell） stack is used for DC excitation in the lack of sunshine. In the experimental setup, an electrical control card is developed, and a microcontroller is used to perform the proposed excitation system. All experimental results obtained from 5 kW rated power MHHP test system. Experimental results show that, the proposed method provides the continuous excitation current, and the operation of the synchronous generator is uninterrupted. The proposed method is also practical and easily implemented for MHPP systems.

Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) is an inflammatory disease that occurs following an infection with certain strains of group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. Despite dramatic falls in the incidence, Acute Rheumatic Fever remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality associated with acquired heart disease in developing countries. Infective endocarditis (IE) is defined as a microbial infection of the endothelial surface of the heart. IE occurs most frequently in patients with chronic rheumatic heart disease. As far as we know, the simultaneous occurrence of both conditions has not been previously reported. References to our outpatient clinic with complaints of fever and joint pain, clinical and laboratory findings suggestive of infective endocarditis fits both with both the ARF and remitted entirely with appropriate treatment, as far as we know, we think that this is not a case of our similar event in the literature. Here we present a case of a fifteen-year-old girl with concurrent acute rheumatic fever and infective endocarditis.

A novel mutation of SGK-1 gene in central serous chorioretinopathy

AIM: To investigate the association of serum glucocorticoid kinase gene-1(SGK-1) DNA variants with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC).METHODS: We enrolled 32 eyes of 32 patients who were diagnosed with chronic CSC and composed 32 normal eyes as a control group. Peripheral blood was used for DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction amplification. SGK1 gene was sequenced by using Big Dye Terminator v3.1 cycle sequencing Kit(Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA, USA). The SGK-1 gene and its variants were investigated in CSC patient group and control ***: We identified a new polymorphism M32 V in two person in the patient group [Minor allele frequency(MAF) =0.009] on the region of 1-60 amino acids. The rs1057293 was located in the encoder region of the SGK- 1 gene but not associated with CSC(P =0.68). An intrinsic rs1743966 is also not associated(P =0.28).CONCLUSION: The new polymorphism M32 V is located on the region of 1-60 amino acids which is necessary for localization to the mitochondria in CSC patient. This mutation is probably important for the energy metabolism and plays an important role in the cellular response to hyperosmotic stress and other stress stimuli. Both rs1057293 and rs1743966 are not associated with CSC.
