The Use of Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy as a Mean of Reducing Dose to Bone Marrow for Patients with Cancer Cervix Treated at Nci, Cairo, Egypt. Dosimetric Study

Purpose: To test the use of Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) to spare the bone marrow (BM) in patients treated with cancer cervix through using the bone marrow an organ at risk. Patients and methods: Thirteen patients with stage (IB2-IIIB) intact cervix cancer were included;C-T simulation was done with contrast and full bladder with slice thickness 2.5 mm. Clinical Target Volume (CTV) included the cervix, uterus, upper half of the vagina, parametrium and regional lymph nodes. The CTV was expanded by 1 cm to form the Planning Target Volume (PTV). The organ at risk (OAR) included the bladder and rectum, the external contour of the pelvic bones to define the Pelvic Bone Marrow (PBM). Four plans were done for every patient with anteroposterior-posteroanterior (AP/PA), three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), IMRT, bone marrow-sparing intensity-modulated pelvic radiotherapy (BMS-IMRT). Results: BMS-IMRT reduced the V20, V30, V40 and V45 of the BM in comparison to 3DCRT and IMRT plans. Reduction in V20 with BMS-IMRT plan compared to 3DCRT (p 0.03). The PBM volume receiving 5, 10 and 20 Gy was lower AP/PA than BMS-IMRT (p < 0.01, p 0.001 and p 0.04 respectively). The volumes of the rectum and bladder receiving dose of 40 and 45 Gy were lower in BMS-IMRT plan compared to AP/PA and 3DCRT plans with p = 0.01 for both of them. PTV cover was better in the BMS-IMRT and IMRT plans. Conclusion: BMS-IMRT decreased the irradiated BM volume compared to other techniques. Thus using BMS-IMRT is recommended to decrease hematological toxicity and avoid treatment interruption.

Dosimetric study comparing intensity modulated and conformal pelvic radiotherapy boost plans in locally advanced cancer cervix in NCI-Cairo

Objective:This study was to compare 5 field conformal technique to the intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) 8 fields technique in boosting locally advanced cancer cervix cases after external beam radiotherapy with respect to target volume coverage and dose to normal tissues. Methods:We conducted a single institutional comparative dosimetric analysis of 10 patients with cancer cervix who was presented to radiotherapy department in National Cancer Institute, Cairo in period between June 2012 to September 2012 and received a CRT boost in the place of planned brachytherapy after large field pelvic radiotherapy (PRT) with concurrent chemotherapy were retrospectively identified. All tumors were situated in the low central pelvis. Two plans were done for every patient; one using the 8 fields IMRT and the second one using 5 fields' 3DCRT the two techniques were then compared using dose volume histogram (DVH) analysis for the PTV, bladder, rectum and both femoral heads. Results:Comparing different DVHs, it was found that the planning target volume (PTV) was adequately covered in both plans while it was demonstrates that the 8 fields IMRT technique carried less doses reaching OARs (rectum, bladder, both femoral heads). Conclusion:From the present study, it is concluded that IMRT technique spared more efficiently OARs than CRT technique but both techniques covered the PTV adequately so whenever possible IMRT technique should be used.

Bearing capacity of circular footings on multi-layered sand-waste tire shreds reinforced with geogrids

The presence of waste tires poses an environmental challenge as they occupy a significant amount of land and are expensive to dispose in ***,reusing waste tires can address this issue when waste tires are used in geotechnical *** determine the viability of this approach,laboratoryscale tests were conducted to investigate load-bearing capacity of circular footings on sand-tire shred(STS)mixtures with shredded waste tire contents of 5%e15%by weight and three different widths of *** investigation focused on analyzing the thickness of layers composed of STS mixtures,the soil cap,and the impact of geogrids on bearing *** results indicate that a specific mixture of sand and tire shreds provides the highest footing-bearing *** addition,the optimal shred content and size were found to be 10%by weight and 2 cm×10 cm,***,for a given tire shred width,a particular length provides the largest bearing *** results agree well with that of previous research conducted by the first author and his colleagues in direct shear and California bearing ratio(CBR)*** primary finding of this research is that the use of two-layered STS mixtures reinforced by geogrids significantly enhances the bearing capacity.

Location awareness in wireless networks is essential for emergency services,navigation,gaming,and many other *** article presents a method for source localization based on measuring the amplitude-phase distribution of the field at the base *** existing scatterers in the target area create unique scattered field interference at each source *** unique field interference at each source location results in a unique field signature at the base station which is used for source *** the proposed method,the target area is divided into a grid with a step of less than half the *** grid node is characterized by its field signature at the base *** signatures corresponding to all nodes are normalized and stored in the base station as fingerprints for source *** normalization of the field signatures avoids the need for time synchronization between the base station and the *** a source transmits signals,the generated field signature at the base station is normalized and then correlated with the stored *** maximum correlation value is given by the node to which the source is the *** simulations and results of experiments on ultrasonic waves in the air show that the ultrasonic source is correctly localized using broadband field signatures with one base station and without time *** proposed method is potentially applicable for indoor localization and navigation of mobile robots.

A comparative study of bifacial versus monofacial PV systems at the UK’s largest solar plant

This paper presents an extensive analysis of the UK’s largest bifacial photovoltaic(PV)power plant,located in North *** in January 2020,this trailblazing facility,with a total installed capacity of 34.7 MW,is a benchmark for the evaluation of bifacial solar technology within the *** pioneering study provides a thorough comparative assessment of bifacial and monofacial PV systems through a methodical investigation of their energy production,degradation rates,and spectral responses over a 4-year operational *** findings reveal that bifacial PV modules,distributed across four segments of the power plant,demonstrate a remarkable average power gain ranging between 15.12%and 17.31%compared with monofacial *** experiencing marginally higher annual degradation rates-1.17%for bifacial compared with 0.91%for monofacial systems-bifacial modules show superior resilience and energy yield,particularly during winter months when albedo effects are pronounced due to snow *** study also highlights the strategic importance of spectral response analysis in optimizing PV *** modules have shown greater efficiency in capturing infrared radiation-a property that could be exploited to enhance overall energy yield under specific environmental *** empirical data indicate a consistent performance of bifacial modules with an average normalized energy output clustering around the expected efficiency ***,the results of this study are pivotal for understanding the practical implications of deploying bifacial PV technology on a large *** provide valuable data for stakeholders in the solar energy sector,guiding future installations and innovations in solar panel technology.

Electro-optic tuning in composite silicon photonics based on ferroionic 2D materials

Tunable optical materials are indispensable elements in modern optoelectronics,especially in integrated photonics circuits where precise control over the effective refractive index is essential for diverse ***-dimensional materials like transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)and graphene exhibit remarkable optical responses to external ***,achieving distinctive modulation across short-wave infrared(SWIR)regions while enabling precise phase control at low signal loss within a compact footprint remains an ongoing *** this work,we unveil the robust electro-refractive response of multilayer ferroionic two-dimensional CuCrP2S6(CCPS)in the near-infrared wavelength *** integrating CCPS into silicon photonics(SiPh)microring resonators(MRR),we enhance lightmatter interaction and measurement sensitivity to minute phase and absorption *** show that electrically driven Cu ions can tune the effective refractive index on the order of 2.8×10−3 RIU(refractive index unit)while preserving extinction ratios and resonance ***,these devices exhibit low optical losses and excellent modulation efficiency of 0.25 *** with a consistent blue shift in the resonance wavelengths among all devices for either polarity of the applied *** results outperform earlier findings on phase shifters based on ***,our study demonstrates distinct variations in electro-optic tuning sensitivity when comparing transverse electric(TE)and transverse magnetic(TM)modes,revealing a polarization-dependent response that paves the way for diverse applications in light *** combined optoelectronic and ionotronic capabilities of two-terminal CCPS devices present extensive opportunities across several *** potential applications range from phased arrays and optical switching to their use in environmental sensing and metrology,optical imaging systems,and neuromorphic systems in light-sensitive artificial synapses.

Microstructure and impact behavior of Mg-4Al-5RE-xGd cast magnesium alloys

This work investigated the microstructure and impact behavior of Mg-4Al-5RE-xGd(RE represents La-Ce mischmetal;x=0,0.2,0.7 wt.%)alloys cast by high-pressure die casting(HPDC),permanent mold casting(PMC),and sand casting(SC)*** results indicated that with increasing Gd content,the grain sizes of the HPDC alloy had a slight change,but the grains of the PMC and SC alloys were significantly ***,the acicular Al_(11)RE_(3)phase was modified into the short-rod shape under the three casting *** impact toughness of the studied alloy was mainly dominated by the absorbed energy during the crack *** increasing Gd content,the impact toughness of the studied alloy monotonically increased due to the lower tendency of the modified second phase toward crack *** impact stress was higher than the tensile stress,exhibiting a strain rate sensitivity for the mechanical response;however,the HPDC alloy had an inconsistent strain rate sensitivity during the impact event due to the transformation of the deformation mechanism from twinning to slip with increasing *** dimples covered the fracture surface of the fine-grained HPDC alloys,indicating a typical ductile ***,due to the deficient{1012}twinning activity and the suppressed grain boundary sliding during the impact event,the HPDC alloys showed insufficient plastic deformation capacity.

Gonorrhea cluster detection in Manitoba,Canada:Spatial,temporal,and spatio-temporal analysis

In Canada,Gonorrhea infection ranks as the second most prevalent sexually transmitted *** 2018,Manitoba reported an incidence rate three times greater than the national *** study aims to investigate the spatial,temporal,and spatio-temporal patterns of Gonorrhea infection in Manitoba,using individual-level laboratory-confirmed administrative data provided by Manitoba Health from 2000 to *** and sex patterns indicate that females are affected by infections at younger ages compared to ***,there is an increase in repeated infections in 2016,accounting for 16%of the total *** analysis at the 96 Manitoba regional health authority districts highlights significant positive spatial autocorrelation,demonstrating a clustered distribution of the *** districts of Manitoba and central Winnipeg were identified as significant *** analysis shows seasonal patterns,with higher infections in late summer and ***,spatio-temporal analysis reveals clusters during high-risk periods,with the most likely cluster in the northern districts of Manitoba from January 2006 to June 2014,and a secondary cluster in central Winnipeg from June 2004 to November *** study identifies that Gonorrhea infection transmission in Manitoba has temporal,spatial,and spatio-temporal *** findings provide vital insights for public health and Manitoba Health by revealing high-risk clusters and emphasizing the need for focused and localized prevention,control measures,and resource allocation.
