Chemotherapy Toxicity Profile in Adjuvant Treated Colorectal Carcinoma Patients

Background:?Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. The treatment of stage III CRC consists of surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy with either single agent capecitabine or combination therapy consisting of FOLFOX?or XELOX, all of which have been shown to be effective in improving disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). However, toxicities acquired from chemotherapy can affect a cancer patient’s quality of life and result in early?treatment discontinuation. Common toxicities include hematological, gastrointestinal (GI), constitutional, dermatological, and neurological.?Aim of the Work: The present work was aimed to assess and evaluate chemotherapy toxicities in adjuvant treatment in CRC patients and analyze certain factors that might increase chemotherapy toxicity. Patients and Methods: This is retrospective study included a total of 72 patients of colorectal carcinoma received adjuvant chemotherapy at Clinical Oncology Department, Ain Shams University. The study was conducted between Jan. 2012 and Jan. 2017. Results: We found that?the most chemotherapy reported was neurological toxicity in (73.6%), gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea 52.7%, nausea 30.6%, vomiting 27.8% & oral mucositis 24%), hematological toxicity (neutropenia 40.3%, anemia 34.7%, thrombocytopenia 12.5%), fatigue 20.9%, hepatic toxicity 18.1%, dermatological toxicity 9.7% & renal toxicity 5.6%). older patients have significant incidence of neurological toxicity (p-value?= 0.023) and fatigue (p-value?= 0.038). females have significant incidence of anemia (p-value = 0.017). increase of oxaliplatin?cumulative dose increase incidence of neurological toxicity (p-value?= 0.024), thrombocytopenia (p-value?= 0.007) and renal toxicity (p-value?= 0.030). Radiation Doses in Diagnostic Radiology and Method for Dose Reduction

Objective: The current research study aims to calculate entrance surface air kerma for skull, chest, cervical spine, lumbar spine, and pelvic X-ray examinations in interior posterior and posterior interior positions and generate a method for chest dose reduction to decrease radiation risk. Materials and Methods: The indirect dose measurement was used in the current research. The X-ray tube output was measured using RAD-CHECK Plus ionization chamber and the indirect entrance surface air kerma was calculated via applying physical acquisition parameters such as a focus on skin distance, tube current times exposure time (mAs), and applied tube voltage (kV), and applying a mathematical model. Results: The main findings were obtained from comparing the radiation doses with the reference levels of International organizations such as the American College of Radiology and the International Atomic Energy Authority. The mean entrance skin dose for the skull (AP), skull (PA), skull (LAT), cervical spine (PA), cervical spine (LAT), lumbar spine (AP), lumbar spine (LAT), pelvis (AP), and pelvis (LAT) of adult X-ray examinations was within the diagnostic reference dose level values obtained by ACR (2018) except for the ESD for chest (AP) which was 0.88 mGy. Conclusions: The results of the study concluded that by adjusting the applied tube voltage, kV, and tube current product time, mAs decreased the radiation dose to the chest X-ray by 58%.

This paper deals with various aspects of modeling, simulation, analysis, and control ofa SRG （switched reluctance generator） in different modes of operation. Excitation method of such a generator is shortly described. The output power of the SRG is controlled so that it can track the maximum output power of a wind turbine drive applications. Also, the output generator voltage is stabilized under either load or wind speed variations. Basic operational characteristics of a three-phase 6/4 SRG are developed through experimental observation. Meanwhile, the real-time operation was implemented in a DSP （digital signal processor） environment. The simulation of the complete system model has been obtained using the Matlab/Simulink software. A good agreement between experimental and simulation results has been observed which supports the validity of the proposed analysis.

Zinc Chloride Catalyzed Regioselective Nitration of Aromatic Hydrocarbons Using Tetrachlorosilane-Sodium Nitrate Homogeneous System

The development of a new silane reagent derived from tetrachlorosilane (TCS) was applied in the present work. TCS-sodium nitrate (NaNO3) binary reagent and zinc chloride (ZnCl2) were reported here as a homogeneous nitrating system. The later was used for the efficient mono nitration, in most cases, with high para-regioselectivity. The nitration proceeded smoothly under mild condition, fairly clean and in good yields. This readily available and inexpensive system is superior to other methods by avoidance of the use of corrosive nitrating reagents and therefore considered to be convenient in terms of risk reduction, economic advantages and environment protection. The present protocol was convenient and applicable to a variety of aromatic hydrocarbons and could be amenable to high throughput synthesis of combinatorial libraries for potential drug development, which needs to be studied as part of future investigations.

Hydrocarbons,carbon monoxide and other pollutants from the transportation sector harm human health in many *** cell(FC)has been evolving rapidly over the past two decades due to its efficient mechanism to transform the chemical energy in hydrogen-rich compounds into electrical *** main drawback of the standalone FC is its slow dynamic response and its inability to supply rapid variations in the load ***,adding energy storage systems is ***,to manage and distribute the power-sharing among the hybrid proton exchange membrane(PEM)fuel cell(FC),battery storage(BS),and supercapacitor(SC),an energy management strategy(EMS)is *** this research work,an optimal EMS based on a spotted hyena optimizer(SHO)for hybrid PEM fuel cell/BS/SC is *** main goal of an EMS is to improve the performance of hybrid FC/BS/SC and to reduce the amount of hydrogen *** prove the superiority of the SHO method,the obtained results are compared with the chimp optimizer(CO),the artificial ecosystem-based optimizer(AEO),the seagull optimization algorithm(SOA),the sooty tern optimization algorithm(STOA),and the coyote optimization algorithm(COA).Two main metrics are used as a benchmark for the comparison:the minimum consumed hydrogen and the efficiency of the *** main findings confirm that the minimum amount of hydrogen consumption and maximum efficiency are achieved by the proposed SHO based EMS.

Predictors of nodal metastasis in sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma:A national cancer database analysis

Double J Fixation after Craniotomy: Technical Description of a Modification Method for Bone Flap Fixation (Hiederov Method)

Background: Fixation of bone flap following craniotomy is usually achieved by synthetic materials. In rural and poor funding areas, innovation for cheap, safe and applicable material is needed. Purpose: The aim is to assess our new innovative technique in bone flap fixation against traditional techniques. Patients and Methods: The study was a prospective randomized controlled study enrolled at Al-Amal Hospital and Al-Ahly Bank Hospital from 2014-2019. Forty-eight patients were randomized in the study. Group A (24 patients) underwent titanium miniplate fixation while group B (24 patients) underwent our new technique. The new technique is double J tunnels performed by craniotome on either side of the bone (flap and skull sides), then a Prolene suture is passed through the shared stem of J’ holes and secured in the wrapped side of J’s holes and tying it tightly. Both techniques were examined against fixation time, rigidity, offset and final judgment postoperatively. Result: There was no statistically significant difference in using both techniques as regard fixation time. Our new technique was not inferior to the traditional one in achieving rigidity (p > 0.05). The final postoperative assessment was as equal as that seen in miniplate fixation. Conclusion: This technique is a simple, easy, cheap and effective method of fixing craniotomy bone flap.

Preparation and Characteristics of Cu-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>Nanocomposite

Thermo-chemical technique was used to synthesize Cu-Al2O3, nanocomposite powders. The process was carried out by addition of Cu powder to aqueous solution of aluminum nitrate. Afterwards, a thermal treatment at 850℃ for 1 hr was conducted to get insitu powders of CuO and stable alumina (Al2O3, ). The CuO was reduced in hydrogen atmosphere into copper powder. The nanocomposite powders of both copper and alumina were thoroughly mixed, cold pressed into briquettes and sintered at 850℃ in hydrogen atmosphere. The x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) were used to characterize the structure of the obtained powders. The results showed that alumina nanoparticles (20 nm) and ultra fine copper crystallite (200 nm) were obtained. SEM and EDS showed that the alumina particles were uniformly dispersed within the copper crystallite matrix. The structure also revealed formation of a third phase (CuAlO2) at copper-alumina interface. The hardness and density results showed that the gain in hardness was found to be dependent on the alumina contents rather than on the relative densities. The alumina content up to 12.5% resulted in an increase of 47.9% in hardness and slight decrease (7.6%) in relative densities. The results of compression tests showed considerable increase in compression strength (67%) as alumina content increased up to 12.5%. The compression strength showed further increase in compression strength (24%) as strain rates were increased from 10-4 s to 10s. Strain hardening and strain rate parameters “n” and “m” have shown positive values that improved the total strain and they can be used to predict formability of the nanocomposite.

Potential of the Integrated Control of Cucumber Root Rot Using Natural, Biological and Chemical Methods

Over the few last years, cucumber （Cucumis sativus L） root rot disease became common and inflicted marked losses to yield in Fayoum. Isolation trails from infected cucumber roots revealed that Thielaviopsis basicola and Fusarium moniliforme were the main cucumber root rot pathogens. The isolation trials from the rhizosphere of healthy cucumber plants revealed that two fungal isolates and four bacterial isolates had antagonistic effects against cucumber root rot fungi. All the tested biocontrol agents reduced the radial growth of all the tested root rots fungi in dual cultures. However, all culture filtrates of the tested biocontrol agent significantly reduced radial growth of all the tested pathogenic fungi, except that T. harzianum. Under field conditions, soil treatment with any of T. harzianum and B. subtilis BI and BF, significantly reduced percentages of infected plants and significantly increased percentages of survived plants and fruit yield compared with the control. Application of the commercial product Harpin protein （Messenger）~ product, as a resistance inducer at 0.3, 0.5 and l g/L significantly reduced the percentage of infected plants under greenhouse and field conditions. Field experiments indicated that the average percentage of infected plants after 90 days significantly decreased. The percentage of the survived plants as well as fruit yield increased by using integrated disease management （IDM） package, including the most effective treatments： tolerant cultivar, Trichoderma harzianum granules formula as soil treatment, Purging cassia plant extract, Harpin protein, and a half dose of Vitavax/thiram comparing with the treatment recommended by the Ministry of Agricultural or applied treatments individually.
