Assessment of LV Function in Children with Wilson’s Disease: Speckle Tracking Imaging Study

Background and Objective: Wilson’s disease is a genetic disorder of copper metabolism that affects liver and other organs including heart. In early stages of myocardial affection, the left ventricle (LV) appears apparently normal when evaluated by traditional two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography. The aim of this study was to detect subclinical LV dysfunction in children with Wilson’s disease using 2D speckle tracking echocardiography. Patients and Methods: Twenty children with Wilson’s disease were compared with age- and sex-matched 20 healthy children. All subjects were evaluated by traditional 2D echocardiography and speckle tracking echocardiography. Results: There were no significant differences between patients and controls regarding conventional echo parameters except for lower E mitral flow and E' annular septal peak velocity in patient group. The regional peak longitudinal strain of apical 4 chamber view was -17.8% ± 4.2% in patients and -20.1% ± 2.3 % in control subjects (P = 0.043), and for apical 2 chambers view, it was -20.1%± 3.6% in patients and -22.6% ± 3.4% in control subjects (P = 0.034) and it was -18% ± 3.5% in patients and -20.5% ± 3.2% in control subjects (P = 0.025) in apical long axis view. The global peak longitudinal strain was also lower in patients than control group (18.3% ± 3.2%, and 20.85% ± 2.4%) respectively (P = 0.014). There were no significant differences between both groups regarding circumferential and radial strains (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Despite apparently normal LV systolic function, the children with Wilson’s disease demonstrated significantly lower peak longitudinal strain as an indicator for early affection of LV systolic function.

Assessment of Aortic Root Mechanics in Hypertensive Patients by Speckle Tracking Echocardiography

Objectives: Hypertension is a major risk factor for several cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Remodeling of the aortic root may be expected to occur in hypertensive subjects as a result of increased stress on the aortic wall due to the repeated hemodynamic overload. Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography is a promising new imaging modality. The aim of this study is to assess aortic root mechanics in relation to left ventricular mechanics in hypertensive patients by speckle tracking echocardiography. Methods: The study included 50 individuals, 30 patients with hypertension compared with 20 age and sex matched healthy volunteers as control group. For both groups, conventional echo was done and speckle tracking echocardiography of the LV including longitudinal, circumferential, radial strain, LV rotation and the longitudinal strain of the ascending aorta and aortic distensibility were measured. Results: Aortic longitudinal strain of both anterior and posterior walls, andalso LV longitudinal peak systolic strain were lower significantly in patient group, and also in the same group, the apical rotation was higher than control;aortic longitudinal strain was negatively correlated with E/E, and LV global longitudinal strain was correlated positively with septal annular E wave peak velocity and with aortic distensibility. Conclusion: Hypertension significantly lowers ascending aortic longitudinal strain and the changes are correlated significantly with LV longitudinal systolic function and with echo parameters of elevated LV filling pressure.

Actual TDoA-based augmentation system for enhancing cybersecurity in ADS-B

Currently, cybersecurity and cyber resilience are emerging and urgent issues in nextgeneration air traffic surveillance systems, which depend primarily on Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast(ADS-B) owing to its low cost and high accuracy. Unfortunately, ADS-B is prone to cyber-attacks. To verify the ADS-B positioning data of aircraft, multilateration(MLAT)techniques that use Time Differences of Arrivals(TDoAs) have been proposed. MLAT exhibits low accuracy in determining aircraft positions. Recently, a novel technique using a theoretically calculated TDoA fingerprint map has been proposed. This technique is less dependent on the geometry of sensor deployment and achieves better accuracy than MLAT. However, the accuracy of the existing technique is not sufficiently precise for determining aircraft positions and requires a long computation time. In contrast, this paper presents a reliable surveillance framework using an Actual TDoA-Based Augmentation System(ATBAS). It uses historically recorded real-data from the OpenSky network to train our TDoA fingerprint grid network. Our results show that the accuracy of the proposed ATBAS framework in determining the aircraft positions is significantly better than those of the MLAT and expected TDoA techniques by 56.93% and 48.86%, respectively. Additionally, the proposed framework reduced the computation time by 77% compared with the expected TDoA technique.

A combined contour lines iteration algorithm and Delaunay triangulation for terrain modeling enhancement

Digital Elevation Models(DEMs)play a crucial role in civil and environmental applications,such as hydrologic and geologic analyses,hazard monitoring,natural resources exploration,***,DEMs can be generated from various data sources,such as ground surveys,photogrammetric stereo methods,satellite images,laser scanning,and digitized contour *** with other data sources,contour lines are still the cheapest and more common data source becausethey cover all areas,at different scales,in most *** there are different algorithms and technologies for interpolation in between contour lines,DEMs extracted solely from contours still suffer from poor terrain quality representation,which in turn negatively affects the quality of analytical applications *** this paper,an approach for improving the digital terrain modeling based on contour line densification and Delaunay triangulation is presented to acquire a more suitable DEM for hydrographic modeling and its *** proposed methodology was tested using a variety of terrain patterns in terms of intensity:hilly,undulated,and plain(1:25,000 topographic map,5 m contour interval).The precision of the extracted GRID model increases as the number of added contours *** four contour lines,the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)of examining points were 0.26 m,0.29 m,and 0.05 m for hilly,undulated,and plain samples,respectively,and the Mean Absolute Error(MAE)were 0.50 m,0.48 m,and 0.17 *** convergence probabilities between extracted and original flow lines for the same regions were 96.91%,94.93%,and 84.03%.Applying the methodology,experimental results indicate that the developed approach provides a significant advantage in terrain modeling enhancement,generates DEMs smoothly and effectively from contours,mitigates problems and reduces uncertainties.

The aim of the present paper is to introduce and study a new type of q-Mellin transform [11], that will be called q-finite Mellin transform. In particular, we prove for this new transform an inversion formula and q-convolution product. The application of this transform is also earlier proposed in solving procedure for a new equation with a new fractional differential operator of a variational type.

In this paper, the q-analogue of the Stirling formula for the q-gamma function （Moak formula） is exploited to prove the complete monotonicity properties of some functions involving the q-gamma and the q-polygamma functions for all real number q 〉 0. The monotonicity of these functions is used to establish sharp inequalities for the q-gamma and the q-polygamma functions and the q-Harmonic number. Our results are shown to be a generalization of results which were obtained by Selvi and Batir [23].

Numerical Investigation of the Fluid Flow in Continuous Casting Tundish Using Analysis of RTD Curves

A detailed mathematical procedure of the optimization of the fluid flow in a tundish water model with and without flow control devices （weir and dam） was carried out using the commercial CFD eode FLUENT 6.0. The （k- ε） two-equation model was used to model turbulence. The residence time distribution （RTD） curves were used to analyze the behavior of the flow in tundish. The location of flow control devices in the tundish was studied. The results show that the flow modifiers play an important role in promoting the floatation of nonmetallic inclusions in steel. Comparing the three geometric configurations that are considered （bare tundish, weir, weir＋dam）, the tundish equipped with the arrangement （weir＋dam） is a best and optimal geometric configuration of tundish.

A new experimental way for the monitoring of the real/equivalent inservice- time of double base rocket propellant by coupling VST and PCA

The assessment of the real in-service-time(RIST)and the equivalent in-service-time(EIST)of double base rocket propellants(DBRPs)is of utmost importance for the safe storage and use of weapon systems as well as the efficiency of the accelerated aging *** this work,four DBRPs with similar chemical composition and different natural aging have been artificially aged at T?338.65 K for 4 months with sampling every 30 *** unaged and artificially aged samples have been investigated by vacuum stability test(VST)at five isothermal temperatures(T?333.15 K,343.15 K,353.15 K,363.15 K,and 373.15 K).The volume of the evolved gases in VST was found to decrease with natural/artificial ***,the VST data were treated and subjected to principal component analysis(PCA).The results showed excellent discrimination of the DBRP samples according to their stability thermal *** of the variance was described by the first principal component(PC1)whose scores were linearly correlated with the natural aging durations when PCA is applied on VST data obtained at T?363.15 *** light of the obtained results,a new experimental way for the estimation of the real/equivalent IST was proposed,which takes into account the impact of the natural aging of the *** approach predicts successfully the RIST of two similar DBRPs with a relative deviation of less than 2%.At the specific heating temperature T?338.65 K,the developed model provides more conceivable EIST values,with asymptotic behavior against artificial aging duration evolution,thus overcoming some shortcomings of the common generalized van’t Hoff formula(GvH).

Assessment of Left Ventricular Mechanical Function in Cardiac Syndrome X: Speckle Tracking Imaging Study

Objective: Early detection of LV mechanical abnormalities in patients with cardiac syndrome X (CSX) by speckle tracking echocardiography (STE). Background: Cardiac syndrome X is a triad of angina pectoris, positive stress test for myocardial ischemia and angiographically free coronary arteries. Two dimensional speckle tracking?echocardiography (2D-STE) provides a more sensitive method for evaluation of global and segmental LV function than conventional two dimensional echocardiographic parameters. Subjects and Methods: Seventy patients proved to have CSX and 20 healthy control volunteers were included with a mean age of 49.43 ± 5.92 vs. 49.40 ±6.27 years respectively with no difference regarding sex for both patients and controls. Patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies, inflammatory diseases, myocarditis and arrhythmias were excluded. All included individuals were subjected to complete conventional echocardiographic assessment and left ventricular global and segmental mechanical function was assessed using 2D based strain and strain rate (longitudinal, radial and circumferential) imaging. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in LV conventional echo parameters between patients and controls. However, global mean longitudinal strain was significantly lower in patients than controls (-15.05 ± 3.28 vs. -20.22 ± 2.49;p 0.001). For radial and circumferential strain stain, there was no significant changes between patients vs. controls (29.75 ± 18.26 vs. 28.09 ± 15.48;p = 0.74) and (-19.88 ± 8.63 vs. -21.93 ± 5.69;p 0.05) respectively. Conclusion: In spite of normal conventional echo parameters among patients and controls, LV longitudinal strain and strain rate by 2D speckle tracking imaging were lower in the patients denoting subclinical left ventricular mechanical dysfunction in patients with CSX.
