Potential of a fucoidan-rich Ascophyllum nodosum extract to reduce Salmonella shedding and improve gastrointestinal health in weaned pigs naturally infected with Salmonella

Background:Dietary supplementation with a fucoidan-rich Ascophyllum nodosum extract(ANE),possessing an in vitro anti-Salmonella Typhimurium activity could be a promising on-farm strategy to control Salmonella infection in *** objectives of this study were to:1)evaluate the *** activity of ANE(containing 46.6%fucoidan,18.6%laminarin,10.7%mannitol,4.6%alginate)in vitro,and;2)compare the effects of dietary supplementation with ANE and Zinc oxide(ZnO)on growth performance,Salmonella shedding and selected gut parameters in naturally infected *** was established post-weaning(newly weaned pig experiment)and following regrouping of post-weaned pigs and experimental re-infection with ***(challenge experiment).Results:In the in vitro assay,increasing ANE concentrations led to a linear reduction in *** counts(Periment(12 replicates/treatment),high ANE supplementation increased gain to feed ratio,similar to ZnO supplementation,and reduced faecal Salmonella counts on d 21 compared to the low ANE and control groups(Periment included thirty-six pigs from the previous experiment that remained on their original dietary treatments(control and high ANE groups with the latter being renamed to ANE group)apart from the ZnO group which transitioned onto a control diet on d 21(ZnO-residual group).These dietary treatments had no effect on performance,faecal scores,Salmonella shedding or colonic and caecal Salmonella counts(P>0.05).ANE supplementation decreased the Enterobacteriaceae counts compared to the *** counts were also reduced in the ZnO-residual group compared to the control(Perleukin 22 and transforming growth factor beta 1 in the ileum compared to the control(P<0.05).Conclusions:ANE supplementation was associated with some beneficial changes in the composition of the colonic microbiota,Salmonella sh

Using Capillary Pressure Derived Parameters for Improving Permeability Prediction

This paper presents the construction and verification of a new better semi-analytical, statistically derived universal model than that modified from Huet and Blasingame equation for estimating absolute permeability from mercury injection capillary pressure data. The foundation of my new model is the petrophysical relation between absolute permeability and capillary-pressure/wetting phase saturation properties. I also incorporate characteristics of capillary pressure behavior using the classic Brooks-Corey power-law model. The final form of my new proposed model allowed us to predict absolute permeability as a function of effective porosity, irreducible wetting phase saturation, displacement or threshold pressure corresponding pore throat radius, and basic pore size characteristics. I built my model using 189 sets of mercury—injection (Hg-air) capillary pressure data and measured permeability-including core samples from several reservoirs both carbonate and sandstone lithologies. I identified this correlation by quantifying its accuracy and precision based on regression analysis. I compared permeability estimates obtained from Huet and Blasingame mercury-injection capillary-pressure-based model and my new universal predicted permeability model to a set of laboratory measured permeability of my studied core sample and previously published data results respectively, where I quantified the method’s accuracy and precision based on error analysis. The measured permeability samples range is from 0.003 mD to 5341 mD. I review current employed models that are classified as belonging to Poiseuille model.

Embedding hollow Co3O4 nanoboxes into a three- dimensional macroporous graphene framework for high-performance energy storage devices

Carbon materials are widely used for supercapacitor applications thanks to their high surface area, good rate capability, and excellent cycling stability. However, the development of high energy density carbon supercapacitors still remains a challenge. In this work, hollow Co3O4 nanoboxes have been embedded into three-dimensional macroporous laser-scribed graphene （LSG） to produce composite electrodes with improved electrochemical performance. Here, Co3O4 provides high capacity through fast and reversible redox reactions, while LSG serves as a conductive network to maintain high power. The open nanobox morphology is a unique solution for extracting the maximum capacity from Co3O4, resulting in electrodes whose surfaces, both internal and external, are accessible to the electrolyte. The electrochemical performance of the composite material is promising with a volumetric capacity of 60.0 C/cm^3 and a specific capacity of 542.3 C/g, corresponding to 682.0 C/g of the constituent Co3O4. With a low equivalent series resistance of 0.9 Ω, the Co3O4/LSG electrode is able to maintain 113.1% of its original capacity after 10,000 cycles. This work provides new insights into the design of high-performance carbon/metal oxide nano- composites for next-generation energy storage devices.

Acute Kidney Injury with Levetiracetam in Patient with Epilepsy: A Case Report

Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder in neurology clinic. Levetiracetam is considered as one of common antiepileptic drugs used to manage epilepsy with good efficacy and tolerability profile. It is renally excreted and not depending on the cytochrome p450. It has adverse effects reported as somnolence, headaches, dizziness, depression and anxiety. Also, it was reported that levetiracetam can cause Acute kidney injury (AKI), renal profile disturbance, that may be related to its way of excretion and possible nephrotoxicity especially with high loading dose. We are reporting a young female patient with epilepsy presented to hospital with status epileptcus and started on loading dose of levetiracetam 3 grams and then maintenance dose of 1 gram twice daily seizure were controlled but she developed acute kidney injury that improved after discontinue leveriracetam and medical management without renal dialysis and discharged home in stable condition. Physician and health care providers should be aware of such rare adverse reaction and available management options for better patient care and outcome.

交通基础设施包括为交通运输目的而建造的所有类型的道路以及确保正常运行和安全所需的附属设施。乡村地区的交通基础设施是促进交通状况改善的主要驱动力量,而交通状况又是满足人们个体和经济需求的先决条件,因此必须通过扩建或改善长期持续的维护和修复此类基础设施。与大多数乡村村地区的情况一样,由于道路基础设施薄弱,乡村道路成为连接农村和城市的最主要挑战和障碍。本研究以叙利亚卡德穆斯地区为例,通过研究道路网络的现状和改善乡村交通基础设施的重要性,旨在揭示交通基础设施改善对于提升农村和城市地区联系起来方面的作用。本文通过使用基于GIS的分析方法,收集交通事务有关的部委和机构收集必要的数据,采用地理空间分析方法,识别卡德穆斯-巴尼亚斯地区乡村道路的薄弱环节;同时根据网络分析,发掘交通网络基础设施的薄弱环节并提出适当的解决方案,如维护和修复或根据需要建设新道路。结果表明,为了维持卡德穆斯地区的农村道路网络对该地区旅游和农业上的连接和支持,必须确保这些道路的可达性和连通性。克服这些挑战需要包括政府、发展伙伴和社区在内的利益相关者之间的协调努力,以确保开发满足农村社区需求的高质量乡村道路交通基础设施。因此,加强乡村交通基础设施建设,会带动和促进城乡关系发展。乡村道路交通基础设施在其中发挥及其关键的作用,对于发展中国家的落后地区的地位提升,促进与发达地区之间建立紧密而良性的连接起到重要作用。

Optimization of Municipal Solid Waste Management of Bins Using GIS. A Case Study: Nuseirat City

Solid Waste Management, SWM, is an integral part of public health and environmental control. Improper SWM leads to both economic and environmental sufferings. Almost all factors related to solid waste management have both spatial and non-spatial components. Thus, traditional ways of storing and analyzing data keep data in an isolated form, which results in an inefficient management system. This research aims to optimize municipal solid waste management of bins using GIS. Nuseirat City is chosen as a case study to evaluate SWM of recycle bins to allow the collection process to get less cost and less time as well as to determine the best routes for the trucks to collect the bins. Using Location-Allocation technique, the study indicates that 50 bins from the existing 222 bins do not meet the required selection criteria and need to be re-distributed. It also shows that there are many areas which are not serviced and that the existing bins do not cover all areas in Nuseirat. Nuseirat municipality needs to supply 173 bins besides the existing bins in order to fully cover the city. Moreover, the best tracks to be followed by vehicles that will reduce the financial cost using Vehicle Routing Problem Analysis are determined using GIS network analysis. It is recommended the use of GIS in the administration, especially the management of solid waste and the consideration of it mainly in the general system of municipalities working in the Gaza Strip. Extensive attention should be focused on the collection of solid waste because it is important in the development of cities and it gives a wonderful cultural landscape.

High Precision Bidirectional Heat Pulsed Flow Sensor

In this work we have designed and simulated a thermal bi-directional integrated circuit mass flow sensor. The approach used here was an extension to the gas flow model given by Mayer and Lechner [1]. The design features high precision response received from analog integrated circuits. An established mathematical model for the heat flow equation including CFD parameters were used within COMSOL simulation (COMSOL Multiphysics, Sweden). Heat pulses of 55°C for a period of nearly 120 seconds and 50% duty cycles were applied as thermal sources to the flowstream. The boundary conditions of the heat equations at the solid (heating element) fluid interface were set up in the software for the thermal response. The hardware design included one heating element and two sensing elements were used to detect the bi-directional mass flow. Platinum sensors were used due to their linear characteristics within 0°C to 100°C range, and their high temperature coefficient (0.00385 Ω/°C). Polyimide thin film heater was used as the element due to its high throughput and good thermal efficiency. Two bridge circuits were used to sense the temperature distribution in the vicinity of the sensing elements.

A numerical analysis of the log-law behavior for the turbulent boundary layer of a wall-bounded flow is performed over a flat plate immersed in three nanofluids(Zn O-water,SiO_(2)-water,TiO_(2)-water).Numerical simulations using CFD code are employed to investigate the boundary layer and the hydrodynamic *** validate the current numerical model,measurement points from published works were used,and the compared results were in good *** were carried out for the velocity series of 0.04,0.4 and 4 m/s and nanoparticle concentrations0.1% and 5%.The influence of nanoparticles’ concentration on velocity,temperature profiles,wall shear stress,and turbulent intensity was *** obtained results showed that the viscous sub-layer,the buffer layer,and the loglaw layer along the potential-flow layer could be analyzed based on their curving quality in the regions which have just a single wall *** was seen that the viscous sub-layer is the biggest area in comparison with other ***,the section where the temperature changes considerably correspond to the thermal boundary layer’s thickness goes a downward trend when the velocity *** thermal boundary layer gets deep away from the leading ***,a rise in the volume fraction of nanoparticles indicated a minor impact on the shear stress developed in the *** all cases,the thickness of the boundary layer undergoes a downward trend as the velocity increases,whereas increasing the nanoparticle concentrations would enhance the *** precisely,the log layer is closed with log law,and it is minimal between Y^(+)=50 and Y^(+)=*** temperature for nanoparticle concentration φ=5%is higher than that for φ=0.1%,in boundary layers,for all studied ***,it is established that the behavior is inverted from the value of Y^(+)=1 and the temperature for φ =0.1% is more important than the case of φ =5%.For turbulence intensity peak,this peak exists at Y^(+)
