Assessment of Predictors for Early Resistance to Hepatitis C Virus Treatment

The current standard of treatment for HCV is the combination of pegylated interferon (PEG-IfN) and ribavirin (RBV). Response to therapy is influenced by different factors related to virus or host characteristics. In this study we detected HCV genotype in some patients with chronic HCV infection—who received interferon plus ribavirin therapy and evaluating some risk factors in early resistance to treatment. These risk factors included age, gender, ALT& AST levels, HCV viral load & genotype. This study included 60 patients with chronic HCV infection and subjected to PEG-INf plus RBV therapy. 40 (gp I) had developed resistance after 12 weeks;while group II are the responders. on comparing patients in group I n = 40 (who developed resistance) to patients in group 2, no = 20 (responders), it has been found that the most important risk factors for developing resistance are the increased viral load of HCV-RNA, and ***-genotype as a risk factor was significantly higher among cases with genotype 1 and 4 and P value was 0.004. This was followed by ALT and AfP as risk factors with P value 0.004 for each and age with P value 0.026. However, regarding sex of the patients there was no significant difference between group I and II. In conclusion: the most frequent HCV genotype in resistant group were genotype I and IV, while in responder patient were genotype 2 & 3. The most important risk factor in this study is viral load and HCV genotype.

Vitamins maintain growth and development in humans, animals, and plants. Because plants serve as essential producers of vitamins, increasing the vitamin contents in plants has become a goal of crop breeding worldwide. Here, we begin with a summary of the functions of vitamins. We then review the achievements to date in elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying how vitamins are synthesized, transported, and regulated in plants. We also stress the exploration of variation in vitamins by the use of forward genetic approaches, such as quantitative trait locus mapping and genome-wide association studies. Overall, we conclude that exploring the diversity of vitamins could provide new insights into plant metabolism and crop breeding.

The ultimate aim of a smart city is to enhance the quality of life for its residents and businesses through modern technologies in order to reduce resource deterioration and maintain overall costs. from this perspective, blockchain is one of these technologies that has received much attention during the recent years as it offers new alternatives for individuals and institutions in the smart city context. This study aims to explore the potential and contribution of blockchain in smart cities by studying and reviewing the literature of scientific research on the concept and fundamentals of blockchain, involving its most practical applications. In addition, it summarizes worldwide examples of success in using blockchain as well as exploring the challenges and opportunities related to this technology in smart cities. Thus, this study provides a useful reference for researchers to review all about the new blockchain technology.

The electrocardiogram (ECG) signal used for diagnosis and patient monitoring, has recently emerged as a biometric recognition tool. Indeed, ECG signal changes from one person to another according to health status, heart geometry and anatomy among other factors. This paper forms a comparative study between different identification techniques and their performances. Previous works in this f.eld referred to methodologies implementing either set of fiducial or set non-fiducial features. In this study we show a comparison of the same data using a fiducial feature set and a non-fiducial feature set based on statistical calculation of wavelet coefficient. High identification rates were measured in both cases, non-fiducial using Discrete Meyer (dmey) wavelet outperformed the rest at 98.65.

Smart sustainable city is that uses the technology to transform their core systems and optimize the exploitation of limited resources;it is a knowledge-based system that provides real-time insights to stakeholders. As a result of the challenges facing the cities of the Gaza Strip regarding population growth, lack of resources, increased demand for materials, the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than twelve years, the smart city approach can contribute to mitigating these challenges and creating opportunities and solutions for many of these problems. Thus, this study aims to promote sustainable urban development through the adoption of smart city approaches using the city’s 3D representation and analysis capabilities to reflect and define the current situation and formulate a future vision using GIS and Building Information Modeling (BIM) considering Sheikh Hamad city as a case study. This involves developing a GIS web-based 3D model of the urban landscape of the city and creating a geometric descriptive database that includes the various elements of the city such as buildings, services and other facilities. The constructed database is to be automatically updated and can be used to facilitate documentation, transparency and help in decision-making process. The 3D smart city can also benefit stakeholders, government officials, private sectors as well as the city citizens. Therefore, urban services will be more efficient, and the cities of the Gaza Strip will be able to achieve sustainable development and competition in difficult economic, environmental and social conditions. This study recommends the use of BIM and GIS technologies in the transformation to a smart city concept as well as the rehabilitation of existing cadres to enable them to use those technologies to achieve the goal of improving the quality of life and facilitating the daily lives of people.

The fact that traditional semiconductors have almost reached their performance limits in high power applications,is leading to failure in high power *** failure results from self-heating effects,leading to higher temperature and a breakdown of the electrical *** good thermal and mechanical properties of 4 H-SiC and Ti_(3)SiC_(2) and their good performance at high temperatures make them good candidates for high power *** order to improve the performance of.electrical contacts,a thermo-mechanical simulation was carried out using the finite element method to study the self-heating effects in a high power PN diode made of a 4 H-SiC substrate with a Ti_(3)SiC_(2) electrical contact and Al_(3)Ti *** three-dimensional model took into account the temperature dependency of several thermal and mechanical properties of the different materials to improve calculation *** simulate the self-heating,the power loss in the diode was calculated from the corresponding direct I-V *** addition,the interfacial thermal resistances(ITR)between the different layers were varied and studied in the thermo-mechanical investigation,in sequence to determine their effects on the heat dissipation and the resulting stresses in the *** results show that for realistic ITR values,the ITR barely affects heat diffusion mechanical stresses of the ***,ITR may cause serious problem to the functionality and the efficiency of some electronic *** the other hand,extremely large ITR leads to a decrease in the thermal stress in the *** control on the ITR may help to improve the performance of high-power devices in the future,in addition to providing more efficient electrical contacts.
