A multidisciplinary approach for developing an intelligent sign multi-language recognition system to greatly enhance deaf-mute communication will be discussed and implemented. This involves designing a low-cost glove-based sensing system, collecting large and diverse datasets, preprocessing the data, and using efficient machine learning models. Furthermore, the glove is integrated with a user-friendly mobile application called “Life-sign” for this system. The main goal of this work is to minimize the processing time of machine learning classifiers while maintaining higher accuracy performance. This is achieved by using effective preprocessing algorithms to handle noisy and inconsistent data. Testing and iterating approaches have been applied to various classifiers to refine and improve their accuracy in the recognition process. Additionally, the Extra Trees (ET) classifier has been identified as the best algorithm, with results proving successful gesture prediction at an average accuracy of about 99.54%. A smart optimization feature has been implemented to control the size of data transferred via Bluetooth, allowing for fast recognition of consecutive gestures. Real-time performance has been measured through extensive experimental testing on various consecutive gestures, specifically referring to Arabic Sign Language (ArSL). The results have demonstrated that the system guarantees consecutive gesture recognition with a lower delay of 50 milliseconds.

BACKGROUND:Pancreatoduodenectomy offers the only chance of cure for patients with periampullary ***,however,is a major undertaking in most patients and is associated with a significant morbidity and mortality.A multidisciplinary approach to the workup and follow-up of patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy was initiated at our institution to improve the diagnosis,resection rate,mortality and *** undertook the study to assess the effect of this approach on diagnosis,resection rates and short-term outcomes such as morbidity and ***:A prospective database of patients presenting with periampullary cancers to a single surgeon between April 2004 and April 2010 was *** cases were discussed at a multidisciplinary meeting comprising surgeons,gastroenterologists,radiologists,oncologists,radiation oncologists,pathologists and nursing staff.A standardized investigation and management algorithm was *** were graded according to the Clavien-Dindo ***:A total of 295 patients with a periampullary lesion were discussed and 178 underwent pancreatoduodenectomy (resection rate 60%).Sixty-one patients (34%) required either a vascular or an additional organ ***-nine patients experienced complications,of which the commonest was blood transfusion (12%).Thirty-four patients (19%) had major complications,*** 3 or *** was no in-hospital,30-day or 60-day ***:Pancreatoduodenectomy can safely be performed in high-volume centers with very low *** surgeon’s role should be careful patient selection,intensive preoperative investigations,use of a team approach,and an unbiased discussion at a multidisciplinary meeting to optimize the outcome in these patients.

Structural Interpretation of Lineaments Uses Satellite Images Processing: A Case Study in North-Eastern Tunisia

This paper presents a lineament detection method using multi-band remote sensing images. The main objective of this work is to design an automatic image processing tool for lineament mapping from Landsat-7 ETM + satellite data. Five procedures were involved: 1) The Principal Component Analysis;2) image enhancement using histogram equalization technique 3) directional Sobel filters of the original data;4) histogram segmentation and 5) binary image generation. The applied methodology was contributed in identifying several known large-scale faults in the Northeast of Tunisia. The statistical and spatial analyses of lineament map indicate a difference of morphological appearance of lineaments in the satellite image. Indeed, all the lineaments present a specific organization. Five groups were classified based on three orientations: NE-SW, E-W and NW-SE. The overlapping of lineament map with the geologic map confirms that these lineaments of diverse directions can be identified and recognized on the field as a fault. The identified lineaments were linked to a deep faults caused by tectonic movements in Tunisia. This study shows the performance of the satellite image processing in the analysis and mapping of the accidents in the northern Atlas.

Extrinsic Risk Factors for Women Breast Cancer in Gaza Strip, Palestine: Associations and Interactions in a Case-Control Study

Background: Worldwide, breast cancer (BC) is the most frequently diagnosed neoplastic disease in women around menopause that is the leading cause of DALYs, because it causes a significant reduction of these women’s ability to function normally in everyday life. Methods: The present hospital-based case-control study was carried out between January and August 2018 using a structured questionnaire on 105 breast cancer women and 210 controls who are clinically free from breast cancer. Data about the study cases were collected in the oncology day-care clinics of the two main hospitals in Gaza strip “Al-Shifa and European Gaza hospitals”. Univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to identify the significant factors associated with BC. Results: Multivariate logistic regression analyses with adjustment for all confounders revealed that woman with BMI more than or equal 30 kg/m2 are under risk of getting BC 2.9 times greater than those having BMI less than 29 kg/m2 (AOR = 2.895;95% CI: 1.305 - 6.423). Analysis of risk according to reaching menopause showed that the estimated AOR was greater among those reached menopause (3.137, 95% CI 1.824 - 5.395) than among those that did not reach menopause. The risk of developing BC in the case of a history of incidence of BC in the family was more than two times higher (AOR = 2.632, 95% CI 1.528 - 4.535) than in case of the history of a free family of BC. Conclusion: In this context, the above-mentioned risk factors must be taken into consideration in BC management processes in the Gaza strip.

The ultimate aim of a smart city is to enhance the quality of life for its residents and businesses through modern technologies in order to reduce resource deterioration and maintain overall costs. From this perspective, blockchain is one of these technologies that has received much attention during the recent years as it offers new alternatives for individuals and institutions in the smart city context. This study aims to explore the potential and contribution of blockchain in smart cities by studying and reviewing the literature of scientific research on the concept and fundamentals of blockchain, involving its most practical applications. In addition, it summarizes worldwide examples of success in using blockchain as well as exploring the challenges and opportunities related to this technology in smart cities. Thus, this study provides a useful reference for researchers to review all about the new blockchain technology.

The electrocardiogram (ECG) signal used for diagnosis and patient monitoring, has recently emerged as a biometric recognition tool. Indeed, ECG signal changes from one person to another according to health status, heart geometry and anatomy among other factors. This paper forms a comparative study between different identification techniques and their performances. Previous works in this field referred to methodologies implementing either set of fiducial or set non-fiducial features. In this study we show a comparison of the same data using a fiducial feature set and a non-fiducial feature set based on statistical calculation of wavelet coefficient. High identification rates were measured in both cases, non-fiducial using Discrete Meyer (dmey) wavelet outperformed the rest at 98.65.

Assessment of Radiation Hazard from External and Internal Exposures at Adham and Surroundings in KSA

Twenty-eight environmental samples (eight well water, sixteen granitic rocks and four soils) were collected from different parts of Adham governorate (Adham, Haqal and Al-Jaizah), to assess the radiological hazard and cancer risk from different perspectives. Adham is situated in a valley between two granitic mountain chains, where much of water supply for drinking, house use and irrigation comes from wells collecting water rains. The activity concentrations of naturally occurring 40K, 226Ra and 232Th and radionuclides were measured by gamma-ray spectrometry for all samples using RGK-1, RGU-1 and RGTh-1, IAEA reference standards issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency, for detector efficiency calibration. The measured values were utilized to evaluate the internal and external exposures both outdoors and indoors. Different standard room models were adopted for this respect to evaluate the indoor gamma-rays exposure from construction materials as well as internal exposure to radon gas emanating from them. Radon concentration indoors, exceeded the upper reference level in dwellings set at 300 Bq/m3 by the world health organization, in many scenarios. The mean value of the total excess lifetime cancer risk (due to external exposure from gamma-rays) was 2.29 × 10-3, above the world average value of 1.45 × 10-3. Furthermore, the measured radon concentrations in all water samples exceeded the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) 11.1 Bq·L-1 standard for drinking water, ranging from 12 to 38 Bq·L-1 with a mean value of 27 Bq·L-1. The total annual effective dose (due to inhalation and ingestion) from radon in water, ranged from 58 to 192 μSv/y (for adults) exceeding the international permissible limit of 100 μSv/y, in seven out of eight samples. The article describes the pantoprazole healing effect on the gastroduodenal mucosa in patients with NSAID gastropathy. Two groups of patients were compared, depending on the treatment they have got group, which was taking 75 mg of enteric aspirin per day and the group, where pantoprazole has been added to aspirin in the usual dose. Mucosa assessment was studied using fibrogastroduodenoscopy and Lanza score. Also, the relationship between aggression factors that cause NSAID gastropathy and mucosal protection agents has been studied. It was proved that the pantoprazole influence reduces the ulcerative-erosive lesions amount. Stomach erosive lesions percentage decreased from 58.18% to 42.42%, stomach ulcers from 14.55% to 6.06%, duodenum erosive lesions decreased from 34.55% to 24.24%, duodenum ulcers deceased from 9.09% to 3.03%. A positive correlation between LTB4 and Lanza scale was checked after pantoprazole treatment, indicating an impact on the LTB4 reduction in ulcers healing in patients with NSAID gastropathy.

Smart sustainable city is that uses the technology to transform their core systems and optimize the exploitation of limited resources;it is a knowledge-based system that provides real-time insights to stakeholders. As a result of the challenges facing the cities of the Gaza Strip regarding population growth, lack of resources, increased demand for materials, the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than twelve years, the smart city approach can contribute to mitigating these challenges and creating opportunities and solutions for many of these problems. Thus, this study aims to promote sustainable urban development through the adoption of smart city approaches using the city’s 3D representation and analysis capabilities to reflect and define the current situation and formulate a future vision using GIS and Building Information Modeling (BIM) considering Sheikh Hamad city as a case study. This involves developing a GIS web-based 3D model of the urban landscape of the city and creating a geometric descriptive database that includes the various elements of the city such as buildings, services and other facilities. The constructed database is to be automatically updated and can be used to facilitate documentation, transparency and help in decision-making process. The 3D smart city can also benefit stakeholders, government officials, private sectors as well as the city citizens. Therefore, urban services will be more efficient, and the cities of the Gaza Strip will be able to achieve sustainable development and competition in difficult economic, environmental and social conditions. This study recommends the use of BIM and GIS technologies in the transformation to a smart city concept as well as the rehabilitation of existing cadres to enable them to use those technologies to achieve the goal of improving the quality of life and facilitating the daily lives of people.
