Recent research progress for upconversion assisted dye-sensitized solar cells

Upconversion(UC)technology makes it possible to harvest infrared(IR)light from the sun and has increasingly been employed in recent years to improve the efficiency of solar *** progress in the area concerns both research on fundamental principles and processes of UC and technologies of device *** increase of important solar cell parameters,like short-circuit photocurrent density and open-circuit photovoltage as well as the total photon-to-current efficiency,has been *** here review the research published during the last few years in the area,in particular we consider the two most cherished techniques,namely the incorporation of upconverting nanophosphors directly into the photoanodes of the solar cells and the introduction of plasmonic metal nanoparticles co-existing with the UC *** ways to achieve strong field enhancement,and the use of the non-linear nature of UC,is to apply microlenses,with or without assisting plasmonic *** enhanced UC action has been demonstrated by broad band and effective harvesting by organic IR antennas,with subsequent mediation by an intermediate nanoshell of the energy into the upconverting ***,nanohybrid and layer-by-layer technologies involving upconverting particles as well as the use of upconverting nanoparticles in hole-transport and electrolyte layers,tested in recent works,are also *** most of these technologies employ upconverting rare earth metals for sequential photon absorption,the main alternative technique,namely triplet-triplet annihilation UC using organic materials,is also *** is our belief that all these approaches will be further much researched in the near future,with potentially great impact on solar cell technology.

Use of Microwave Radiances from Metop-C and Fengyun-3 C/D Satellites for a Northern European Limited-area Data Assimilation System

MetCoOp is a Nordic collaboration on operational Numerical Weather Prediction based on a common limited-area km-scale ensemble system. The initial states are produced using a 3-dimensional variational data assimilation scheme utilizing a large amount of observations from conventional in-situ measurements, weather radars, global navigation satellite system, advanced scatterometer data and satellite radiances from various satellite platforms. A version of the forecasting system which is aimed for future operations has been prepared for an enhanced assimilation of microwave radiances. This enhanced data assimilation system will use radiances from the Microwave Humidity Sounder, the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A and the Micro-Wave Humidity Sounder-2 instruments on-board the Metop-C and Fengyun-3 C/D polar orbiting satellites. The implementation process includes channel selection, set-up of an adaptive bias correction procedure, and careful monitoring of data usage and quality control of observations. The benefit of the additional microwave observations in terms of data coverage and impact on analyses, as derived using the degree of freedom of signal approach, is demonstrated. A positive impact on forecast quality is shown, and the effect on the precipitation for a case study is examined. Finally, the role of enhanced data assimilation techniques and adaptions towards nowcasting are discussed.

Preparation of nanocrystalline Na_2ZrO_3 for high-temperature CO_2 acceptors:chemistry and mechanism

Nanocrystalline Na2ZrO3 was demonstrated as a promising acceptor for CO2 capture at elevated temperatures. The mechanism of nanocrystalline Na2ZrO3 formation from the soft-chemistry route is elucidated by varying precursors, preparation methods, and calciantion temperatures, combining detailed characterizations by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and scanning electron microscope （SEM） at different steps in the process. The results revealed that the drying method such as spraying drying and simple evaporation-drying did not influence the final product prop- erties. However both Na and Zr precursors had remarkable influences on the Na2ZrO3 formation. The solid reaction of Na intermediate and nanocrystalline ZrO2 in the calcination was identified as the key step for the Na2ZrO3 formation, where the formation of molten phase Na intermediate was found to be crucial to facilitate the solid reaction. We provided principles for rational design of the chemistry for the Na2ZrO3 formation where the formation of Na intermediate with low melting points is essential. Pure nanocrystalline Na2ZrO3 can be synthesized from a mixture containing sodium nitrate and zirconoxy citrate via the formation of NaNO3 with low melting point. However, it is not possible to form pure nanocrystalline Na2ZrO3 at relatively low temperatures from the mixtures of NaAc/ZrO（NO3）2 or NaCA/ZrOC12 due to the formation of Na2CO3 and NaC1 with high melting points.

Globomycin is a cyclic lipodepsipeptide originally isolated from several Streptomyces species which displays strong and selective antibacterial activity against Gram-negative *** mode of action is based on the competitive inhibition of the lipoprotein signal peptidase II(LspA),which is absent in eukaryotes and considered an attractive target for the development of new *** its interesting biological properties,the gene cluster encoding its biosynthesis has not yet been *** this study we employed a genome-mining approach in the globomycin-producing Streptomyces ***-278952 to identify a candidate gene cluster responsible for its biosynthesis.A null mutant was constructed using CRISPR base editing where production was abolished,strongly suggesting its involvement in the *** putative gene cluster was then cloned and heterologously expressed in Streptomyces albus J1074 and Streptomyces coelicolor M1146,therefore unambigu-ously linking globomycin and its biosynthetic gene *** work paves the way for the biosynthesis of new globomycin derivatives with improved pharmacological properties.

Exercise cardiac power and the risk of heart failure in men:A population-based follow-up study

Background:Little is known about exercise cardiac power(ECP),defined as the ratio of directly measured maximal oxygen uptake with peak systolic blood pressure during exercise,on heart failure(HF)*** examined the association of ECP and the risk of ***:This was a population-based cohort study of 2351 men from eastern *** average time to follow-up was 25 *** participated at baseline in an exercise stress test.A total of 313 cases of HF ***:Men with low ECP(13.92 mL/mmHg,the highest quartile),after adjusting for *** ECP was associated with a 1.96-fold risk(95%CI:1.38-2.78,p<0.001)of HF after additional adjustment for conventional risk *** further adjustment for left ventricular hypertrophy,the results hardly changed(hazards ratio=1.87,95%CI:1.31-2.66,p<0.001).One SD increase in ECP(3.16 mL/mmHg)was associated with a decreased risk of HF by 28%(95%CI:17%-37%).Conclusion:ECP provides a noninvasive and easily available measure from cardiopulmonary exercise tests in predicting ***,ECP did not provide additional value over maximal oxygen uptake.

Absorption of light in InP nanowire arrays

An understanding of the absorption of light is essential for efficient photovoltaic and photodetection applications with III–V nanowire arrays. Here, we correlate experiments with modeling and verify experimentally the predicted absorption of light in InP nanowire arrays for varying nanowire diameter and length. We find that 2,000 nm long nanowires in a pitch of 400 nm can absorb 94% of the incident light with energy above the band gap and, as a consequence, light which in a simple ray-optics description would be travelling between the nanowires can be efficiently absorbed by the nanowires. Our measurements demonstrate that the absorption for long nanowires is limited by insertion reflection losses when light is coupled from the air top-region into the array. These reflection losses can be reduced by introducing a smaller diameter to the nanowire-part closest to the air top-region. For nanowire arrays with such a nanowire morphology modulation, we find that the absorptance increases monotonously with increasing diameter of the rest of the nanowire.

StochSD: A Full Potential CSS Language for Dynamic and Stochastic Modelling, Simulation and Statistical Analysis

It is vital that a well-defined conceptual model can be realized by a macro-model (e.g., a Continuous System Simulation (CSS) model) or a micro-model (e.g., an Agent-Based model or Discrete Event Simulation model) and still produce mutually consistent results. The Full Potential CSS concept provides the rules so that the results from macro-modelling become fully consistent with those from micro-modelling. This paper focuses on the simulation language StochSD (Stochastic System Dynamics), which is an extension of classical Continuous System Simulation that implements the Full Potential CSS concept. Thus, in addition to modelling and simulating continuous flows between compartments represented by “real” numbers, it can also handle transitions of discrete entities by integer numbers, enabling combined models to be constructed in a straight-forward way. However, transition events of discrete entities (e.g., arrivals, accidents, deaths) usually happen irregularly over time, so stochasticity often plays a crucial role in their modelling. Therefore, StochSD contains powerful random functions to model uncertainties of different kinds, together with devices to collect statistics during a simulation or from multiple replications of the same stochastic model. Also, tools for sensitivity analysis, optimisation and statistical analysis are included. In particular, StochSD includes features for stochastic modelling, post-analysis of multiple simulations, and presentation of the results in statistical form. In addition to making StochSD a Full Potential CSS language, a second purpose is to provide an open-source package intended for small and middle-sized models in education, self-studies and research. To make StochSD and its philosophy easy to comprehend and use, it is based on the System Dynamics approach, where a system is described in terms of stocks and flows. Strategies to obtain pattern fidelity in nanowire growth from large-area surfaces patterned using nanoimprint lithography

Position controlled nanowire growth is important for nanowire-based optoelectronic components which rely on light emission or light absorption. For solar energy harvesting applications, dense arrays of nanowires are needed; however, a major obstacle to obtaining dense nanowire arrays is seed particle displacement and coalescing during the annealing stage prior to nanowire growth. Here, we explore three different strategies to improve pattern preservation of large-area catalyst particle arrays defined by nanoimprint lithography for nanowire growth. First, we see that heat treating the growth substrate prior to nanoimprint lithography improves pattern preservation. Second, we explore the possibility of improving pattern preservation by fixing the seed particles in place prior to annealing by modifying the growth procedure. And third, we show that a SiNx growth mask can fully prevent seed particle displacement. We show how these strategies allow us to greatly improve the pattern fidelity of grown InP nanowire arrays with dimensions suitable for solar cell applications, ultimately achieving 100% pattern preservation over the sampled area. The generic nature of these strategies is supported through the synthesis of GaAs and GaP nanowires.

Sound Propagation Properties of the Discrete-Velocity Boltzmann Equation

As the numerical resolution is increased and the discretisation error decreases,the lattice Boltzmann method tends towards the discrete-velocity Boltzmann equation(DVBE).An expression for the propagation properties of plane sound waves is found for this *** expression is compared to similar ones from the NavierStokes and Burnett models,and is found to be closest to the *** anisotropy of sound propagation with the DVBE is examined using a two-dimensional velocity *** is found that both the anisotropy and the deviation between the models is negligible if the Knudsen number is less than 1 by at least an order of magnitude.

Dear Editor,Human papillomavirus(HPV)is the most common sexually transmitted virus worldwide,and high-risk HPV infection is the most important risk factor for cervical cancer.1 However,few conclusive data are available on the prevalence of the male HPV infection and its health *** has been found that the prevalence of seminal HPV infection is higher in men with unexplained infertility,ranging between 10%and 35%compared with the general population(range:2%to 11%).2–4 In three recent systematic reviews,it was seen that HPV sperm infection may be associated with impaired sperm function that could lead to male infertility.2,4,5 HPV sperm infection with high-risk HPV among infertile men was shown to be associated with lower progressive sperm motility and higher DNA fragmentation index.6 Moreover,a high rate of pregnancy loss has been found among couples with HPV sperm infection after in vitro fertilization(IVF).7 In the majority of the studies performed to assess seminal HPV infection.
