Sex estimation is a crucial step to outline the biological profile of unknown human *** frontal and maxillary sinuses have unique anatomical features and can be utilized efficiently in individual *** studies investigated the frontal and maxillary sinus indexes separately for sex ***,comparing the predictive value of the frontal sinus index(FSI)to the maxillary sinus index(MSI)has not been investigated *** study aimed to evaluate the sex predicting value of FSI compared to MSI assessed on digital lateral *** retrospective cross-sectional study included 88 digital lateral cephalometric images of known sex(44 males and 44 females)and age(20-50 years).Two radiologists measured the maximum anteroposterior sinus width and height of the frontal sinus and maxillary ***,the sinus index was calculated for each *** obtained frontal and maxillary sinuses parameters were tabulated,along with the patient’s sex and age,and subjected to statistical *** results revealed significant differences between males and females regarding frontal sinus width,FSI,and *** discriminant function analysis obtained in this study accurately predicted sex with an overall accuracy of 71.6%(81.8%of males and 61.4%of females)using FSI,and 60.2%(63.6%in females and 56.8%in males)using *** and maxillary sinus indexes can be useful tools for sex *** function equations were developed for both the frontal and maxillary sinus indexes with higher accuracy rates for FSI compared to MSI.

大跨度结合梁斜拉桥是一种非常有前景的桥梁类型,在交通运输网中承担着越来越重要的作用,因此十分有必要研究该类型桥梁的地震响应特征与抗震性能。本文以一座主跨为720m的大跨结合梁斜拉桥为对象,对该桥的地震响应特征与抗震性能进行了研究:(1)利用弹塑性动力时程分析研究了该斜拉桥在E1和E2地震作用下的响应特征,评估了桩-土相互作用的影响;(2)通过在塔-梁间纵向设置粘滞阻尼器来减小斜拉桥的纵向位移响应,研究了阻尼指数以及阻尼系数的变化对该斜拉桥纵向地震响应的影响。(3)通过大质量法研究了行波效应对该斜拉桥地震响应的影响,分别采用140m/s,250m/s,500m/s,1000m/s,2000m/s,?m/s等6种波速,基本涵盖了从软土到坚硬的岩石等地基土情况。研究结果表明,当斜拉桥支座采用纵向漂浮方案时,其纵向刚度很小,应重点关注纵桥向的地震位移响应;对于桥塔的地震响应,其底部截面的内力最大,应评估在罕遇地震作用下底部截面的塑性铰程度;桩-土相互作用不仅会增大结构的自振周期,也会增加体系的阻尼,对结构的地震响应有较大影响,在设计和分析时应予以考虑;塔-梁间在纵向设置粘滞阻尼器可以有效控制桥梁的位移响应,但是阻尼器的参数对其位移和内力的影响较大,应进行参数优化分析;对于行波效应,当波速较小,即对应较软土时,对斜拉桥的地震响应影响较大,不应忽略。而波速较大,即对应坚硬场地时,行波效应的影响并不显著。本文旨在为该类型桥梁的抗震设计与分析提供参考。

Burnout among Lebanese nurses: Psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS)

Background: Burnout is a mental condition defined as a result of continuous and long-term stress exposure, particularly related to psychosocial factors at work. This paper aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Questionnaire (MBI-HSS) for validation of use in Lebanon, and to describe burnout and associated factors amongst nurses in Lebanon especially the gender and employment sector. Methods: The psychometric properties of the Arabic version of MBI-HSS were studied amongst a sample of 200 nurses. In this descriptive study, survey data were collected from private and public hospitals. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis. Results: The results indicated satisfactory reliability through internal consistency for all three scales of the MBI-HSS. The factor analysis was quite satisfactory. Most of staff had scores which indicated they were burnt out. Nearly three quarters (77.5%) reported emotional exhaustion, 36.0% reported depersonalization while almost one third (33.0%) experienced reduced personal accomplishment. Burnout increases for 30-39 years age groups. Married nurses had significantly higher emotional exhaustion. Depersonalization was highest among nurses in private sector, and personal accomplishment was highest among nurses in public sector. Depersonalization proved to be higher in night and rotating shift nurses. Depression, backache, and headache were predictors of burnout. Conclusion: Findings indicate that the main psychometric properties of reliability and validity of the Arabic version of MBI-HSS appear to be satisfactory. Burnout is particularly prominent and severe in the nurses working population. The implications of these findings for interventions that reduce burnout and promote nursing mental health are therefore in the interest of employers, governments and policy makers.

Central Obesity and Comorbidity Risk in Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross Sectional Study in Lebanon

Introduction: Abdominal deposition of fat has been described as the type of obesity that offers the greatest risk for the health of individuals, and is associated with increased mortality, and morbidity. Conicity index (Ci), Body mass index (BMI), and waist hip ratio (WHR) are used to predict the risk of obesity related diseases. However, it has not been ex amined whether these indicators can predict the comorbidities in hemodialysis subjects in Lebanon. Objective: to determine the effect of central obesity on comorbidities in hemodialysis patients in Lebanon. Material and Method: This is a cross-sectional study of obesity in 60 hemodialysis subjects in Lebanon. A linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between BMI, Ci, WHR, and comorbidities measured by Charlson (CCI) and Davies comorbidities indexes. Results: Ci values were significantly associated with age, and CCI;the abdominal fat deposition evaluated by the conicity index and WHR were a predictor of the comorbidities according to CCI (= 2.96;p = 0.01), and Davies comorbidity index (= 1.19;p = 0.05) scores. BMI was a weak predictor of comorbidity. Conclusion: Abdominal obesity by using simple anthropometric measurements e.g. Ci, and WHR values can similarly predict the presence of comorbidities in hemodialysis patients. Maintaining appropriate Ci and WHR values might be important to improve outcome in hemodialysis patients.

Occupational exposures to blood and body fluids (BBF): Assessment of knowledge, attitude and practice among health care workers in general hospitals in Lebanon

Healthcare workers (HCWs) who are employed in traditional health care workplaces face a serious danger that may threaten their life;it is their exposure to blood and body fluids (BBF). In Lebanon, the introduction of a hospital accreditation system has put a particular emphasis on staff safety, and on the evaluation of professional practice (EPP) programs. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted amongst 277 HCWs working in 4 general hospitals in South Lebanon. Objective: 1) describe the prevalence and the risk factors for occupational exposure to BBF among HCWs;2) evaluate knowledge, attitude, and practices of HCW concerning blood-borne pathogens and adherence to universal safety precautions. Results: The mean age of the respondents was 32.14 years (SD = 10.33), 57.4% were females. 43.3% of HCWs expressed that they use gloves all the time for every activeity of care. 67.1% were aware that needles should not be recapped after use;registered nurses and nursing students were more aware than physicians and nursing assistants (nurse) in this subject. 30% of HCWs declared having had at least one occupational exposure to BBF;62.7% of all accidental exposure was reported to the department responsible for managing exposures. Percutaneous injuries were the most frequently reported. Vaccination coverage was 88.4% for hepatitis B, and 48.4% against influenza. The source patient was tested in 43.4% of reported BBF exposures. Accidental exposure to BBF was more frequent in older people (OR = 3.42;p = 0.03) and the more experienced. Subjects working in intensive care unit ward reported more exposure to BBF (OR = 3;p = 0.04). Participants incurring exposure to BBF resorted to different measures after the injury suggesting a lack of a uniform policy for post-exposure prophylaxis. Conclusion: Exposure to BBF represents an important and frequently preventable occupational hazard for HCWs in Lebanon that requires continuous EPP of HCWs, and a comprehensive approach for preventi

Estimates of the Prevalence of Tobacco Smoking in Egypt

The use of tobacco products constitutes the leading cause of preventable deaths in the world. In Egypt, data on the national prevalence of cigarette and waterpipe smoking are lacking, yet such data are vital to tobacco control efforts. We designed and implemented a sampling method to generate population-based prevalence estimates for tobacco smoking in Egypt. In 2005, a total of 3369 adults ages 18 and above, including 1867 females and 1502 males, participated in the survey. Among males, the national prevalence of former cigarette smoking was 18.1%, and 27.5% reported current smoking. Exclusive current waterpipe smoking was reported by 7.2% of adult males, and a further 3.4% reported smoking both waterpipes and cigarettes. Tobacco smoking was rarely reported by females;among them the national prevalence of current cigarette smoking was 0.3%. This study produced the first robust estimate of the national prevalence of cigarette and waterpipe smoking in Egypt based on a rigorous probability sample. Along with the more recent Global Adult Tobacco Survey, carried out by the World Health Organization in 2009, the results will be useful in assessing smoking trends in Egypt and in evaluating the impacts of recent tobacco control laws.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the third leading cause of tumor related mortality and develops mostly in patients with chronic liver disease and liver cirrhosis. Human hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is produced in various organs of the body and is characterized as a multifunctional factor with various biologic activities. Aim: Our aim was to investigate the predictive factors of recurrence specially the role of HGF in patients with HCC treated with TACE. Patients and Methods: one hundred HCC patients treated by TACE who achieved complete response were included and divided into two groups according to disease free survival (DFS) status at 1 year: the non-early recurrence (NER) group (1) and the early recurrence (ER) group (2). Univariate binary logistic regression analysis for the possible risk factors of recurrence showed that AFP, multinodularity and HGF level were significant. Energy efficiency(EE)is a critical design when taking into account circuit power consumption(CPC)in fifth-generation cellular *** problems arise because of the increasing number of antennas in massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)systems,attributable to inter-cell interference for channel state *** from that,a higher number of radio frequency(RF)chains at the base station and active users consume more power due to the processing activities in digital-to-analogue converters and power ***,antenna selection,user selection,optimal transmission power,and pilot reuse power are important aspects in improving energy efficiency in massive MIMO *** work aims to investigate joint antenna selection,optimal transmit power and joint user selection based on deriving the closed-form of the maximal EE,with complete knowledge of large-scale fading with maximum ratio *** also accounts for channel estimation and eliminating pilot contamination as antennas M→∞.This formulates the optimization problem of joint optimal antenna selection,transmits power allocation and joint user selection to mitigate inter-cellinterference in downlink multi-cell massive MIMO systems under minimized reuse of pilot sequences based on a novel iterative low-complexity algorithm(LCA)for Newton’s methods and Lagrange *** analyze the precise power consumption,a novel power consumption scheme is proposed for each individual antenna,based on the transmit power amplifier and *** results demonstrate that the maximal EE was achieved using the iterative LCA based on reasonable maximum transmit power,in the case the noise power is less than the received power *** maximum EE was achieved with the desired maximum transmit power threshold by minimizing pilot reuse,in the case the transmit power allocationρd=40 dBm,and the optimal EE=71.232 Mb/j.
