Torsion of the ovary is an uncommon condition. It is the 5th most common gynaecological emergency. It most commonly occur in reproductive age group, on right side, often in presence of congenital abnormalities of adnexa but may occur in their absence too. Adnexal torsion often poses a diagnostic challenge because of non specific symptoms of presentation. Ultrasound with colour Doppler may be helpful.

This paper reports spore-elater ratio per capsule in three populations of Conocephalum conicum collected from different regions of Jammu and Kashmir (Doda, Ladakh and Bhaderwah). Spore-elater ratio came out to be 0.40-0.43:1, far less than expected for Marchantialian taxa. The ratios thus obtained were compared with that present in herbarium specimen collected in 1958 from Kyushu. The ratios have remained constant since many decades, thereby indicating that the sex-ual reproduction has lesser role to play in the propagation of this species.

Interactions between elevated [CO2] and soil water availability have the potential impact on crops and future food security of the world. The study was conducted to investigate vegetative growth response of soybeans under two [CO2] (380 and 800 μmol mol-1) with three soil moisture levels in controlled environment. Slow growth rate and altered crop phenology of soybeans were observed under elevated [CO2] at early stage (V-3/V-4), but showed positive physiologically response at later stage (R3) indicating adoptive mechanism of plants to high [CO2]. Elevated [CO2] decreases the number of leaves by 23% and 14% and reduces in leaf areas by 11.7% and 9.7% compared with ambient [CO2] at 29 and 44 days after planting (DAP), respectively. Adaptive mechanism of plants to high [CO2] produced 39% and 83.7% greater leaf number and leaf areas, respectively at later stage (R3) of the crop growth (59 DAP). There was a reduction in a specific leaf area (SLA) at 29 DAP (22.2%) but an increase at 44 DAP (1.4%) and 58 DAP (8.5%) under elevated [CO2]. Dry matter production of plants was increased significantly for elevated [CO2]. Increase in leaf C (<1%) and reduction in N concentration (6.0% - 9.5%) increased the C:N ratio of soybean leaves (4.4% - 12.98%) under elevated [CO2]. Elevated [CO2] with normal soil moisture condition produced a maximum number of pods (54.8% - 122.4%) and an increase in dry weight of pods (29.8% - 56.6%). Plants under elevated [CO2] produced significantly greater numbers of root nodules per plant by 114% compared with plants under ambient [CO2] at 44 DAP. These results show a direct and interactive effect of elevated [CO2] and soil moisture on plant growth that will affect not only the global food security but also nutritional security.

Schiff base ligand (L) derived from glyoxal and 4-aminoantipyrine was synthesized. The ligand (L) has been characterized by IR, NMR, electronic spectral studies and electrochemical studies. Cu(II) complexes of a Schiff base ligand (L) from 4-aminoantpyrine and glyoxal having the composition [CuL1]X2 where X = Cl¯?or NO3¯? have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductivity in non-aqueous solvent, infrared and electronic, as well as cyclic voltammetric studies. L acts as a neutral tetradentate ligand coordinating through both the carbonyl oxygen and azomethine nitrogen. On both the complexes both the anions are not coordinated. A square planar geometry is assigned for complexes. The electrochemical studies of ligand show a typical cyclic voltammogram for an irreversible process. While copper(II) complexes show the typical cyclic voltammograms for quasi reversible process.

Background: It is known that active Src kinase promotes survival of ovarian cancer cell lines and inhibition of c-Src has been shown to restore sensitivity of drug-resistant human ovarian cancer cells to cisplatin. In this study we examined the effects of a 10 mer peptide on proliferation of human colon and ovarian cancer cells when used alone and in combination with cisplatin. Materials and Methods: A 10 mer peptide, RSKAKNPLYR, derived from a 15 mer ERK2 binding sequence present on the cytoplasmic domain of the β6 integrin subunit was tested for its effect on proliferation of HT29 colon cancer cells under serum-free conditions by means of the MTT assay. Cell proliferation studies to examine the effects of cisplatin combined with peptide were conducted in serum-containing medium using the 10 mer peptide fused to a hydrophobic signal peptide sequence. Drug combination studies were performed on HT29 cells and a cisplatin-resistant cell line (ADDP) derived from an ovarian cancer cell line A2780. The effects of peptides on Src kinase activity were assessed in a cell-free in vitro kinase assay. Results: The 10 mer peptide was as effective as the 15 mer parent compound at inhibiting proliferation of HT29 cells. Exposure of HT29 and ADDP cells to a combination of cisplatin and the fusion peptide resulted in synergistic inhibition of cell growth. Both the 10 mer peptide alone and when fused to the signal peptide sequence inhibited Src kinase activity. Conclusion: Our findings raise the possibility of combination therapy comprising peptide and cisplatin for cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancers and other cancers that are high expressors of c-Src.

Background: Dyslipidemia and hypertension are independent cardiovascular risk factors that are linked by insulin resistance and they require follow-up and more aggressive therapeutic strategies. Hence, the present study was done to study the prevalence of Diabetes and Dyslipidemia patterns in hypertensive patients. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was done on patients with hypertension for duration of one year, i.e. from Feb 2022 to January 2023. A total of 726 hypertensive Patients were included. All calculations and statistical analyses were processed by SPSS 25.0. Results: A Total of 726 patients with a history of hypertension were included;the average age was 55, with 24.2% of patients belonging to the age group 51 - 60;55.8% were males and 44.2% were females. In the present study, the prevalence of diabetes was 29.06% and 35.5% of patients in the prediabetic stage. The most frequent dyslipidaemic form was reduced HDL, seen in 96.1% and 94% of new and old respectively;followed by elevated LDL, 86% and 48.2% in new and old respectively. It was followed by elevated TG level and Total cholesterol levels. Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of diabetes, pre-diabetes as well as dyslipidemia in hypertensive patients.

Mini versus ultra-mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy in a paediatric population

Objective:To evaluate whether there would be a difference in outcome when the smaller ultra-mini 12 Fr sheath was used instead of the mini 16 Fr sheath for percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL)in paediatric patients for stones less than 25 ***:This was a prospective cohort study of patients who underwent PCNL in our hospital in a 2-year period from July 2016 to June 2018 by a single *** was performed in a prone position and tract was dilated to the respective size using single step *** was used to fragment the ***-free outcome was defined as absence of stone fragment at 3 months on kidney,ureter,and bladder ***:There were 40 patients in each *** stone size was comparable between the two groups(14.5 mm vs.15.0 mm).The procedure was completed faster in the 16 Fr group compared to 12 Fr group(24.5 min vs.34.6 min).Stone clearance was highly successful in both groups(97.5%vs.95.0%).There was no difference in complications between the two *** decrease in hemoglobin was minimal in both groups(0.2 g/dL vs.0.3 g/dL).Conclusion:We found that the success rates were similar in both mini PCNL and the smaller ultra-mini PCNL *** significant difference in bleeding was noted in our pilot study,however,operative time was longer in the ultra-mini group as compared to the mini sheath group.
