Early Cretaceous succession of the Oued Fodda Formation in the Ouarsenis Mountains(northwestern Algeria) is mainly composed of marl—limestone alternations, which are subdivided into four informal units(Units 1 to 4), based on distinct lithological, stratonomical, and ichnological features. The ichnological analysis reveals a low diversity of the trace-fossil assemblage, which is exclusively reported from Units 2 and *** ichnoassemblage contains six ichnotaxa(Chondrites intricatus, Ophiomorpha isp., Planolites isp., Thalassinoides isp., Zoophycos brianteus, and Zoophycos cauda-galli), among which Zoophycos and Chondrites are the most common elements of the assemblage and occur in distinct mud-rich substrates showing different bioturbation intensities. The development of Zoophycos in the middle part of Unit 2 shows a high degree of bioturbation(bioturbation index(BI) = 4). Zoophycos specimens are of large size, between 45 cm and 75 cm in width, which were interpreted to have formed in a lower offshore environment where the oxygenation amount was optimal, the sedimentation rate was low, and the benthic food was abundant on the seafloor. Toward the upper part of Unit 2, Zoophycos-bearing levels exhibit a less intense degree of bioturbation(BI between 1 and2) in contrast to Planolites-and Chondrites-bearing levels which have a bioturbation index(BI) between 3 and4. At these levels, Zoophycos displays relatively small, coiled to U-shaped spreiten, probably in response to stressful and dysoxic conditions prevailing in the water bottom. With improved oxygenation in a quiet lower offshore to shelf margin environment in Unit 3, the benthic organisms recovered, as represented by medium to large size Zoophycos in association with Ophiomorpha and scarce Chondrites burrows, even if the overall bioturbation intensity is very low. The marl and limestone alternations of the Lower Jurassic Ain Ouarka and Ain Rhezala formations(Pliensbachian-Toarcian)in the western Saharan Atlas,Northwest Algeria,yield a diverse micro-and mac-rofauna,including moderately numerous crinoids,which are represented by remains of isocrinids,i.e.,Bal-anocrinus ticinensis Hess and columnals of the genus *** far,the latter genus has been observed from the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous strata of Eurasia,North America,and the African ***,the present find is the oldest record of this crinoid genus,and the second one from the southern Tethyan *** this paper,it is shown that Percevalicrinus,which is traditionally regarded as a representative of the subfamily Balanocrininae,displays several features of the subfamily *** crinoid assemblage and associated facies and invertebrate fauna are typical of a low-energy deep outer shelf/ramp(below the storm wave-base)setting.

The thiolliericrinids(Thiolliericrinidae) are comatulids(Comatulida),which retained their stalks as ***,we report a centrodorsal from the Bajocian strata(Middle Jurassic) of the Djebel Kérdacha area,northwestern Algeria(Africa).It is the first thiolliericrinid report from outside of Europe and also the oldest representative of the Thiolliericrinidae whose first occurrence is from the *** crinoid is assigned to Copernicrinus zamorae *** *** reported new taxon shows strong similarities with the stemless ‘true’comatulids,Solanocrinites;the only difference is the presence of a facet to the stem in *** closest comparable thiolliericrinid to Copernicrinus is the Oxfordian Thiolliericrinus,interpreted as a descendant of the *** origin and overview of all thiolliericrinid representatives are also discussed herein.

Joint simulation of cross-correlated ore grades and geological domains:an application to mineral resource modeling

Spatial modeling of ore grades is frequently impacted by the local variation in geological domains such as lithological characteristics,rock types,and geological *** this information may lead to biased results in the final ore grade block model,subsequently impacting the downstream processes in a mining chain *** the current practice of ore body evaluation,which is known as stochastic cascade/hierarchical geostatistical modeling,the geological domain is first characterized,and then,within the geological model,the ore grades of interest are *** practice may be unrealistic in the case when the variability in ore grade across the boundary is gradual,following a smooth *** reproduce such characteristics,the cross dependence that exists between the ore grade and geological formations is considered in the conventional joint simulation between continuous and categorical ***,when using this approach,only one ore variable is considered,and its relationship with other ore grades that may be available at the sample location is *** this study,an alternative approach to jointly model two cross-correlated ore grades and one categorical variable(i.e.,geological domains)with soft contact relationships that exist among the geological domains is *** statistical and geostatistical tools are provided for variogram inference,Gibbs sampling,and conditional *** algorithm is also tested by applying it to a Cu deposit,where the geological formations are managed by the local and spatial distribution of two cross-correlated ore grades,Cu and Au,throughout the *** results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other geostatistical techniques in terms of global and local reproduction of statistical parameters.

New empirical scaling equations for oil recovery by free fall gravity drainage in naturally fractured reservoirs

Gas-oil gravity drainage is a recognized major contributor to production in fractured reservoirs. While various empirical and analytical methods have been proposed to model this process, many of them contain assumptions that are questionable or require parameters that are not accessible at the field level. The aim of this work is to provide new, easy-to-use scaling equations for estimating the recoverable oil through gravity drainage in naturally fractured reservoirs, considering the effects of resistance capillary pressure. To accomplish this, data from four oilfields undergoing gravity drainage, including rock properties (eight sets), block height (three sets), and fluid properties (four sets), were used to generate a wide range of recovery curves using a single porosity numerical simulation model. Aronofsky's and Lambert's functions were then utilized to match the generated recovery curves. Statistical analysis revealed that the Aronofsky's function is more accurate in replicating the recovery patterns, while the Lambert's function tends to overestimate the early-time oil recovery and underestimate the oil recovery at a later stage in the majority of cases. A sensitivity analysis was subsequently performed, revealing that parameters such as absolute permeability, viscosity of oil, height of block, gas and oil density, characteristics of relative permeability and capillary pressure curves and interfacial tension (IFT) influence the amount of time taken to achieve the final recovery. Of these parameters, absolute permeability has the most significant effect on the amount of time needed to attain the final recovery, while the effect of difference between oil and gas densities is the lowest. Consequently, two different expressions were developed using nonlinear multiple regression analysis of simulated gravity drainage data which can be combined with the Aronofsky model to substitute the rate convergence constant. Auto-tuning PVT data using multi-objective optimization:Application of NSGA-II algorithm

Reservoir simulation is known as perhaps the most widely used,accurate,and reliable method for field development in the petroleum *** integral part of a reliable reservoir simulation process is to consider robust and rigorous tuned EOS ***,EOS models are tuned iteratively through arduous workflows against experimental PVT ***,this comes with a number of drawbacks such as forcingly using weight factors,which upon alteration adversely affects the optimization *** objective of the current work is thus to introduce an auto-tune PVT matching tool using NSGA-II multi-objective *** order to illustrate the robustness of the presented technique,three different PVT samples are used,including two black-oil and one gas condensate *** utilize PengRobinson EOS during all the manual and auto-tuning *** of auto-tuned EOS-generated results with those of experimental and computed statistical error values for these samples clearly show that the proposed method is *** addition,the proposed method,contrary to the manual matching process,provides the engineer with several matched solutions,which allows them to select a match based on the engineering background to be best amenable to the problem at *** addition,the proposed technique is fast,and can output several solutions within less time compared to the traditional manual matching method.

Deterministic tools to predict gas assisted gravity drainage recovery factor

Naturally fractured rocks contain most of the world's petroleum *** significant amount of oil can be recovered efficiently by gas assisted gravity drainage(GAGD).Although,GAGD is known as one of the most effective recovery methods in reservoir engineering,the lack of available simulation and mathematical models is considerable in these kinds of *** main goal of this study is to provide efficient and accurate methods for predicting the GAGD recovery factor using data driven *** proposed models are developed to relate GAGD recovery factor to the various parameters including model height,matrix porosity and permeability,fracture porosity and permeability,dip angle,viscosity and density of wet and non-wet phases,injection rate,and production *** this investigation,by considering the effective parameters on GAGD recovery factor,three different efficient,smart,and fast models including artificial neural network(ANN),least square support vector machine(LSSVM),and multi-gene genetic programming(MGGP)are developed and compared in both fractured and homogenous porous ***πtheorem is also used to generate dimensionless numbers to reduce the number of input and output *** efficiency of the proposed models is examined through statistical analysis of R-squared,RMSE,MSE,ARE,and ***,the performance of the generated MGGP correlation is compared to the traditional *** demonstrate that the ANN model predicts the GAGD recovery factor more accurately than the LSSVM and MGGP *** maximum R^(2)of 0.9677 and minimum RMSE of 0.0520 values are obtained by the ANN *** the MGGP model has the lowest performance among the other used models(the R2 of 0.896 and the RMSE of 0.0846),the proposed MGGP correlation can predict the GAGD recovery factor in fractured and homogenous reservoirs with high accuracy and reliability compared to the traditional *** reveal that the employed models can easil
