Large scale silver nanowires network fabricated by meV hydrogen (H＋) ion beam irradiation

A random two-dimensional large scale nano-network of silver nanowires （Ag-NWs） is fabricated by meV hydrogen （H＋） ion beam irradiation. Ag-NWs are irradiated under H＋ ion beam at different ion fluences at room temperature. The Ag-NW network is fabricated by H＋ ion beam-induced welding of Ag-NWs at intersecting positions. H＋ ion beam induced welding is confirmed by transmission electron microscopy （TEm） and scanning electron microscopy （SEm）. moreover, the structure of Ag NWs remains stable under H＋ ion beam, and networks are optically transparent. morphology also remains stable under H＋ ion beam irradiation. No slicings or cuttings of Ag-NWs are observed under meV H＋ ion beam irradiation. The results exhibit that the formation of Ag-NW network proceeds through three steps： ion beam induced thermal spikes lead to the local heating of Ag-NWs, the formation of simple junctions on small scale, and the formation of a large scale network. This observation is useful for using Ag-NWs based devices in upper space where protons are abandoned in an energy range from meV to GeV. This high-quality Ag-NW network can also be used as a transparent electrode for optoelectronics devices.

Amorphous silver nanowires （a-Ag NWs） are fabricated from crystalline Ag NWs by using 5 meV helium （He＋） ion beam irradiation. At low dose （5 × 1015 ion/cm2）, few defects are created in Ag NWs. As dose increases, more damage to the crystalline structure of Ag NWs is observed. Finally at high dose （8 × 1016 ion/cm2）, the face-centered cubic structure of Ag NWs is transformed into the amorphous structure with similar morphology as Ag NWs. Phase transformation of crystalline Ag NWs upon irradiation with 5 meV He＋ ions is observed through high resolution transmission electron microscopy. Synthesis of large scale amorphous metal nanowires and metal nanowire alloy systems are discussed.

Synthesis and characterization of ZnO–CuO nanocomposites powder by modified perfume spray pyrolysis method and its antimicrobial investigation

Pure ZnO, ZnO–CuO nanocomposites can be synthesized by using a modified perfume spray pyrolysis method（mSP）. The crystallite size of the nanoparticles（NPs） has been observed by X-ray diffraction pattern and is nearly 36 nm. morphological studies have been analyzed by using Field Emission Scanning Electron microscopy（FESEm） and its elemental analysis was reported by Elemental X-ray Analysis（EDX）; these studies confirmed that ZnO and CuO have hexagonal structure and monoclinic structure respectively. Fourier Transform Infrared（FTIR） spectra revealed that the presence of functional frequencies of ZnO and CuO were observed at 443 and 616 *** average bandgap value at 3.25 e V using UV–vis spectra for the entitled composite has described a blue shift that has been observed here. The antibacterial study against both gram positive and negative bacteria has been studied by the disc diffusion method. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report on ZnO–CuO nanocomposite synthesized by a modified perfume spray pyrolysis method.

Rudists(Bivalvia) from a Cretaceous Platform in Northern Egypt: Taxonomy and Paleobiogeography

New well-preserved rudist materials come from the Barremian–Turonian marine formations in the Yelleg, minsherah, maaza, and Raghawi sections in North Sinai, northern Egypt. There, 17 discovered rudist species belonging to 13 genera and seven taxonomic families are described in detail as follows: Eoradiolites plicatus(Conrad), Eoradiolites liratus(Conrad), Praeradiolites ponsianus(d'Archiac), Archaeoradiolites sp., Bournonia africana Douvillé, Bournonia fourtaui Douville, Biradiolites lombricalis(d'Orbigny), Biradiolites zumoffeni Douville, Radiolites lewyi lewyi Parnes, Radiolites sauvagesi(d'Hombres-Firmas), Durania arnaudi(Choffat), Toucasia carinata(matheron), Toucasia sp., Neocaprina raghawiensis Steuber and Bachmann, Sellaea sp., Ichthyosarcolites sp. and Horoiopleura sp.. The Cenomanian deposits in the northern Eastern desert of Egypt only contain E. liratus. The domination of the Cenomanian rudist species in North Sinai, however, is attributed to changes in the platform, which passes mainly from carbonate in the north to siliciclastics in the south. The presence of Horiopleura sp. in the late Barremian-early Aptian deposits is documented for the first time, which suggests the expansion of taxa of the genus Horiopleura Douville to North Sinai during this interval. The age of the rudist species is documented from the late Barremian-Turonian formations, with their geographic distribution in the mediterranean region considered..

Geotechnical Evaluation of Sedimentary Rocks and Karstification Phenomena of Carbonates Exposed along New Upper Egypt-Red Sea Road, Eastern Desert, Egypt

Geotechnical properties of sedimentary rocks exposed along upper Egypt-Red Sea road were investigated to evaluate their geotechnical behavior. One of the most important aims of this work was to determine the engineering problems affected on the road due to the geotechnical behavior of the studied sedimentary rocks and to suggest the suitable solution. Specific weight, unconfined compressive strength, slaking durability and free swelling were measured. The results showed that the studied crystalline limestone, marly limestone and Issawia limestone had higher unconfined compressive strength values ranging from 34,184.00 kN/m2 to 42,602.00 kN/m2 and the studied shale, siltstone and coral reef had lower values ranging from 3,689.00 kN/m2 to 6,933.00 kN/m2. The results showed also that the studied shale, siltstone and mudstone had fast to very fast slaking rate and their slaking amount described as low to medium after Gamble＇s slake durability classification. Replacement and/or chemical stabilization （using lime and/or cement kiln dust） of the expansive sedimentary rocks （shale and mudstone） were recommended to reduce the swelling. Geophysical investigations including shallow seismic, microgravity and GPR （ground penetrating radar） were recommended to scan the sub-grade of the road at El maaza plateau to determine possible other caves and large voids under the road to avoid its collapse.
