The authors prove the global null controllability for the 1-dimensional nonlinear slow diffusion equation by using both a boundary and an internal control. They assume that the internal control is only time dependent. The proof relies on the return method in combination with some local controllability results for nondegenerate equations and rescaling techniques.

From a compilation of geochemical data for the discrimination of the tectonic settings of mid-ocean ridge(MOR;3730 samples)and oceanic plateau(OP;3656 samples),we present two new discriminant functions and diagrams obtained from censored multivariate discordant outlier-free *** different sets of data(original concentrations as well as isometric log-ratio transformed(ilr)variables;all 10 major(M)elements as well as all 10 major and 6 trace elements MT)were used to evaluate the quality of discrimination from linear discriminant analysis(LDA)and canonical *** selected multidimensional models ilrM(9 ilr transformed variables of multi-normally distributed 10 major elements)and ilrMT(15 ilr transformed variables of multi-normally distributed combined 10 major and 6 trace elements),considered as the best or most representative(total of5650 samples for ilrM and 2858 for ilrMT),provided percent success values,respectively,of 80.9%for the MOR and 81.1%for the OP(ilrM)and 88.5%for the MOR and 90.1%for the OP(ilrMT).Both processes(log-ratio transformation and multi-normality)rendered the percent success values similar for both groups(MOR and OP).The respective discriminant functions were successfully used for four tests from known tectonic settings and four application cases(two for ophiolites and two for Precambrian rocks),documenting thus the utility of the new discrimination procedure for the MOR and OP tectonic ***,we showed that our multidimensional procedure is robust against analytical errors or uncertainties,as well as post-emplacement compositional changes caused by element mobility from both low or high temperature *** robustness against the gain or loss of a single element at a time was also documented,from which the ilrMT model was evaluated as more robust than the ilrM model.A new online computer program MOROPdisc was written in Java Framework ZK,which is freely available for use at our web portal http://***

We propose a multi-crossover and adaptive island based population algorithm(maIPA).This technique divides the entire population into subpopulations,or demes,each with a different crossover function,which can be switched according to the *** addition,maIPA reverses the philosophy of conventional genetic *** gives priority to the autonomous improvement of the individuals(at the mutation phase),and introduces dynamism in the crossover *** subpopulation begins with a very low value of crossover probability,and then varies with the change of the current generation number and the search performance on recent *** mechanism helps prevent premature *** this research,the effectiveness of this technique is tested using three well-known routing problems,i.e.,the traveling salesman problem(TSP),capacitated vehicle routing problem(CVRP),and vehicle routing problem with backhauls(VRPB).maIPA proves to be better than a traditional island based genetic algorithm for all these three problems.

The potential for the positive manipulation of the gut microbiome through the introduction of beneficial microbes, as also known as probiotics, is currently an active area of investigation. The FAO/WHO define probiotics as live microorganisms that confer a health benefit to the host when administered in adequate amounts. However, dead bacteria and bacterial molecular components may also exhibit probiotic properties. The results of clinical studies have demonstrated the clinical potential of probiotics in many pathologies, such as allergic diseases, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease and viral infection. Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain the beneficial effects of probiotics, most of which involve gene expression regulation in specific tissues, particularly the intestine and liver. Therefore, the modulation of gene expression mediated by probiotics is an important issue that warrants further investigation. In the present paper, we performed a systematic review of the probiotic-mediated modulation of gene expression that is associated with the immune system and inflammation. Between January 1990 to February 2014, PubMed was searched for articles that were published in English using the MeSH terms “probiotics' and 'gene expression' combined with “intestines', 'liver', 'enterocytes', 'antigen-presenting cells', 'dendritic cells', 'immune system', and 'inflammation'. Two hundred and five original articles matching these criteria were initially selected, although only those articles that included specific gene expression results (77) were later considered for this review and separated into three major topics: the regulation of immunity and inflammatory gene expression in the gut, in inflammatory diseases of the gut and in the liver. Particular strains of Bifidobacteria, Lactobacilli, Escherichia coli, Propionibacterium, Bacillus and Saccharomyces influence the gene expression of mucins, Toll-like receptors, caspases, nuclear factor-κ

Intestinal Ca2+ absorption is a crucial physiological process for maintaining bone mineralization and Ca2+ homeostasis. It occurs through the transcellular and paracellular pathways. The first route comprises 3steps: the entrance of Ca2+ across the brush border membranes(BBM) of enterocytes through epithelial Ca2+ channels TRPV6, TRPV5, and Cav1.3; Ca2+ movement from the BBM to the basolateral membranes by binding proteins with high Ca2+ affinity(such as CB9k); and Ca2+ extrusion into the blood. Plasma membrane Ca2+ ATPase(PMCA1b) and sodium calcium exchanger(NCX1) are mainly involved in the exit of Ca2+ from enterocytes. A novel molecule, the 4.1R protein, seems to be a partner of PMCA1 b, since both molecules colocalize and interact. The paracellular pathway consists of Ca2+ transport through transmembrane proteins of tight junction structures, such as claudins 2, 12, and 15. There is evidence of crosstalk between the transcellular and paracellular pathways in intestinal Ca2+ transport. When intestinal oxidative stress is triggered, there is a decrease in the expression of several molecules of both pathways that inhibit intestinal Ca2+ absorption. Normalization of redox status in the intestine with drugs such as quercetin, ursodeoxycholic acid, or melatonin return intestinal Ca2+ transport to control values. Calcitriol [1,25(OH)2D3] is the major controlling hormone of intestinal Ca2+ transport. It increases the gene and protein expression of most of the molecules involved in both pathways. PTH, thyroid hormones, estrogens, p ro l a c t i n, g ro w t h h o r m o n e, a n d g l u c o c o r t i c o i d s apparently also regulate Ca2+ transport by direct action, indirect mechanism mediated by the increase of renal 1,25(OH)2D3 production, or both. Different physiological conditions, such as growth, pregnancy, lactation, and aging, adjust intestinal Ca2+ absorption according to Ca2+ demands. Research on macroinvertebrate community structure in Andean rivers has been oriented towards describing patterns of alpha and gamma diversity by taking into account environmental predictors at local spatial scales(e.g.,micro-and mesohabitats).However,the patterns of beta diversity and the importance of landscape-scale variables have been evaluated to a lesser *** objective of this study was to describe the patterns of alpha and beta diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates in the Andean rivers of the Orinoco basin and their relationship with local and landscape environmental variation.A stratified random sampling of macroinvertebrates was carried out at 40 sites(comprising an altitudinal range of between 500 and 2900 m.a.s.l.),local and landscape variables were *** results showed that the variation of alpha diversity was influenced by local and landscape variables,which are directly and indirectly related to the contribution of sediments,substrate composition and flow velocity,providing a heterogeneity of *** beta diversity was explained by the combined effect of local and landscape *** the beta diversity phenomena,turnover was predominant while nestedness presented a minor contribution and both were explained in greater proportion by local descriptors and some landscape variables,specifically those of a geomorphological *** results concur with the view of an environmental and spatial hierarchy within the river habitat and highlight the influence of multiple scales on macroinvertebrate *** above suggests that both local and landscape scales must necessarily be considered for environmental management and the conservation of Andean lotic ecosystems.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, affecting 1% of the population over 55 years of age and up to 4% of the population over 80 years of age (Blesa et al., 2012). This progressive and neurodegenerative condition results from an excessive loss of dopaminergic neurons (50-70%) of the substantia nigra pars compacta, leading to a significant decrease in dopamine (DA) levels in the striatum and consequently a functional deterioration of motor circuity (Blesa et al., 2012;Nielsen et al., 2016).
