Since first establishing thermal measurement techniques for micrometer-scale wires,various methods have been devised and improved ***,the uncertainty of different measurements on the same sample has not yet been *** this work,a round robin test was performed to compare the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity measurement methods for a fine metal *** tested material was a pure gold wire,with a diameter of 30μ*** wire was cut into certain lengths and distributed to four institutions using five different measurement methods:the direct current(DC)self-heating method,the DC heating T-type method,the 3ωmethod for thermal conductivity,the scanning laser heating alternating current(AC)method,and the spot periodic heating radiation thermometry method for thermal *** completing the measurements,the reported thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity at room temperature,i.e.,317 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)and 128×10^(-6)m^(2)·s^(-1),respectively,were adopted as references for comparison with the measurement *** advantages and disadvantages of each method are described in terms of the effect of electrical and thermal junctions fabricated on a wire,such as an electrode,a thermocouple,and a heat *** knowledge obtained from the tested methods will be useful for selecting and designing a measurement technique for various wire-like materials.

AIM To assess the correlation between the efficacy of lusutrom-bopag and clinical characteristics in patients with chronic liver *** In this retrospective, multicenter study, which conducted at four locations in Japan, 50 thrombocytopenic patients with chronic liver disease were enrolled. All patients received oral lusutrombopag(3.0 mg/d for 7 d) for chronic liver disease. We assessed the increase in platelet count after the trial drug administration. A treatment response was defined as a platelet count ≥ 5 × 104/μL and an increased platelet count ≥ 2 × 104/μL from baseline after drug administration. We evaluated the response to lusutrombopag compared to baseline clinical characteristics in patients with chronic liver *** The numbers of responders and non-responders were 40(80.0%) and 10(20.0%), respectively. The patients were divided into a responder and non-responder group, and we added factors that may correspond to successful treatment with lusutrombopag. Splenic volume and body weight were lower in the responder group than in the nonresponder group. White blood cell count and hemoglobin level were higher in responders compared with nonresponders. Using a logistic regression model to assess the relationship between response to lusutrombopag and clinical characteristics, multivariate analysis confirmed that splenic volume was an independent factor that predicted the response of platelet counts(P = 0.025; odds ratio = 11.2; 95% confidence interval: 1.354-103.0). Splenic volume negatively correlated to changes in platelet count(r =-0.524, P = 0.001).CONCLUSION Splenic volume influences the change in platelet counts after administration of lusutrombopag in patients with chronic liver disease.

Malnutrition and Its Association with the Mortality of Patients with Femoral Intertrochanteric Fractures: A Retrospective Analysis of Japanese Patients

Background: The incidence of femoral intertrochanteric fractures in older adults is higher than that of femoral neck fractures;however, both conditions are often analyzed together as proximal femoral fractures. Considering the difference in treatment, postoperative complication, and mortality risk, these two fractures should be analyzed separately. This study aimed to analyze 1-year mortality and its risk factors in patients with surgically treated femoral intertrochanteric fractures. Methods: Consecutive patients with intertrochanteric fractures who underwent surgical interventions at our institution between January 2017 and December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 238 patients were eligible for inclusion in this study. Patients’ demographic and clinical information were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into the 1-year mortality (n = 16) and survival (n = 222) groups. The incidence of 1-year mortality and its independent risk factors were investigated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: The mean age of patients was 85.6 ± 8.5 years. The 1-year mortality rate was 6.7% (16/238). Preoperative albumin level, the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), and malnutrition status (GNRI p = 0.02, p = 0.02, and p = 0.0011, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that malnutrition status (GNRI p = 0.035) was an independent risk factor for 1-year mortality. Conclusion: Malnutrition status assessed using GNRI (GNRI < 92) was an independent risk factor for 1-year mortality. Our findings suggest that GNRI may be an effective screening tool for predicting postoperative 1-year mortality of patients with surgically treated femoral intertrochanteric fractures.

BACKGROUND The success of liver resection relies on the ability of the remnant liver to *** of the knowledge regarding the pathophysiological basis of liver regeneration comes from rodent studies,and data on humans are ***,there is limited knowledge about the preoperative factors that influence postoperative *** To quantify postoperative remnant liver volume by the latest volumetric software and investigate perioperative factors that affect posthepatectomy liver *** A total of 268 patients who received partial hepatectomy were *** were grouped into right hepatectomy/trisegmentectomy(RH/Tri),left hepa-tectomy(LH),segmentectomy(Seg),and subsegmentectomy/nonanatomical hepatectomy(Sub/Non)*** regeneration index(RI)and late rege-neration rate were defined as(postoperative liver volume)/[total functional liver volume(TFLV)]×100 and(RI at 6-months-RI at 3-months)/RI at 6-months,*** lower 25th percentile of RI and the higher 25th percentile of late regeneration rate in each group were defined as“low regeneration”and“delayed regeneration”.“Restoration to the original size”was defined as regeneration of the liver volume by more than 90%of the TFLV at 12 months *** The numbers of patients in the RH/Tri,LH,Seg,and Sub/Non groups were 41,53,99 and 75,*** RI plateaued at 3 months in the LH,Seg,and Sub/Non groups,whereas the RI increased until 12 months in the RH/Tri *** to our multivariate analysis,the preoperative albumin-bilirubin(ALBI)score was an independent factor for low regeneration at 3 months[odds ratio(OR)95%CI=2.80(1.17-6.69),P=0.02;per 1.0 up]and 12 months[OR=2.27(1.01-5.09),P=0.04;per 1.0 up].Multivariate analysis revealed that only liver resection percentage[OR=1.03(1.00-1.05),P=0.04]was associated with delayed ***,multivariate analysis demonstrated that the preoperative ALBI score[OR=2.63(1.00-1.05),P=0.02;per 1.

Preliminary Investigation of Copper(II) Ion Binding or Complex Coordination in Lysozeme Molecules

Hydrophobic Val derivative Schiff base copper(II) complexes and dipeptide (AlaAla, GlyGly) derivative Schiff base copper(II) complexes were introduced into egg white lysozyme. X-ray crystal structure analysis revealed amino acid derivative Schiff base copper(II) complexes were obtained. Herein we discuss primarily on the binding mode of copper(II) of the complexes obtained with egg white lysozyme. The electron density of copper(II) ions was confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. The Val derivative Schiff base copper(II) complex was weakly bound at Arg114 of egg white lysozyme. In other copper(II) complexes, binding of copper(II) ions with dissociated ligands to various residues was observed. The binding sites of copper(II) ions were compared with computational scientific predictions.

Impact of Socioeconomic Status and Demographic Composition on Disaster Mortality: Community‑Level Analysis for the 2011 Tohoku Tsunami

On 11 March 2011, the Tohoku tsunami hit the northeastern region of Japan, causing massive damage to people and property. The tsunami was bigger than any other in Japan’s recorded history, but the damage varied by community. This research addressed the effects of socioeconomic status and demographic composition on mortality in the 2011 Tohoku tsunami using community-level *** effects were estimated using regression analysis, taking into account a variety of potential contributing aspects at the community level, including strength of the tsunami,population characteristics, gender, age, education, household composition, evacuation methods, and occupation. It was found that the height of the tsunami and the shares of threegeneration households and employees in the manufacturing industry are all positively correlated with tsunami *** impacts of these factors on mortality are particularly large for the older adults.

Numerical investigation on arching effect surrounding deep cylindrical shaft during excavation process

Predicting the inner displacements of deep vertical shafts during the excavation process has been a difficult task considering the geological,structural,and constructional *** fact,the two-dimensional(2D)analytical solution based on the retaining wall model remains insufficient for understanding the actual behavior during an *** is because the deformation of vertical shafts becomes complicated due to the unexpected arching effect brought about by the three-dimensional(3D)flexible displacements occurring in the excavation *** analytical solutions only considered the limit ***,the present study deals with a 3D soil-structure simulation by considering the displacements of a cylindrical shaft and the mechanical behavior of the surrounding soil as well as the geometry of the cylindrical ***,this mechanical behaviors of the surrounding soil and shaft are controlled by the shaft stiffness;hence,the relationships among the shaft stiffness,mechanical behavior of the surrounding soil(in terms of earth pressure coefficient),and shaft displacement were investigated.A cylindrical model,120 m in depth and 20 m in diameter,was positioned at the center of a sand domain,and each excavation step was performed at an interval depth of 20 m.A 3D finite difference method analysis was applied using the modified Cam-Clay(MCC)model to represent the soil *** a result,the present study provides a new normalized lateral earth pressure theory for excavated shafts by considering the 3D arching effect obtained from parametric studies using various levels of shaft *** a comparison with the analytical solutions of previous studies(Terzaghi,1943a;Prater,1977;Cheng&Hu,2005),it is found that the previous studies underestimated the earth pressure acting on the cylindrical shaft because they did not consider the accurate arching effect.

Let a, b, c be relatively prime positive integers such that a^2＋ b^2= c^2. Jesmanowicz＇conjecture on Pythagorean numbers states that for any positive integer N, the Diophantine equation（aN）x＋（b N）y=（cN）zhas no positive solution（x, y, z） other than x = y = z = 2. In this paper, we prove this conjecture for the case that a or b is a power of 2.

For fourth-order geometric evolution equations for planar curves with the dissipation of the bending energy,including the Willmore and the Helfrich flows,we consider a numerical *** this study,we construct a structure-preserving method based on a discrete variational derivative ***,to prevent the vertex concentration that may lead to numerical instability,we discretely introduce Deckelnick’s tangential ***,a modification term is introduced in the process of adding tangential *** modified term enables the method to reproduce the equations’properties while preventing vertex *** experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach captures the equations’properties with high accuracy and avoids the concentration of vertices.

Appropriate Heart Rate in a Patient with Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot

Appropriate heart rate in a failing pulmonary ventricle remains unknown, particularly in congenital heart diseasewith unique hemodynamics. A 71-year-old male with repaired tetralogy of Fallot and a pacemaker for a sinusnode dysfunction suffered from heart failure symptoms with preserved left ventricular function. Simply changingthe pacemaker’s lower rate from 60 to 75 bpm, New York Heart Association classification improved from III to II,and hemodynamic parameters drastically improved. We regarded this case as informative. Appropriate heart ratecould be higher in congenital patients with failing right and non-failing left ventricles than in adults with malfunctioningLV.
