Mean nocturnal baseline impedance in gastro-esophageal reflux disease diagnosis:Should we strictly follow the Lyon 2 Consensus?

Clinical practice guidelines drive clinical practice and clinicians rely to them when trying to answer their most common *** of the most important position papers in the field of gastro-esophageal reflux disease(GERD)is the one produced by the Lyon *** an updated second version has been *** nocturnal baseline impedance(MNBI)was proposed by the first Consensus to act as supportive evidence for GERD *** a cut-off of 2292 Ohms was proposed,a value revised in the second *** updated Consensus recommended that an MNBItrongly suggests GERD while a value>2500 Ohms can be used to refute *** proposed cut-offs move in the correct direction by diminishing the original cut-off,nevertheless they arise from a study of normal subjects where cut-offs were provided by measuring the mean value±2SD and not in symptomatic ***,data exist that even symptomatic patients with inconclusive disease or reflux hypersensitivity(RH)show lower MNBI values in comparison to normal subjects or patients with functional heartburn(FH).Moreover,according to the data,MNBI,even among symptomatic patients,is affected by age and body mass ***,various studies have proposed different cut-offs by using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis even lower than the one ***,no information is given for patients submitted to on-proton pump inhibitors pH-impedance studies even if new and extremely important data now ***,even if MNBI is an extremely important tool when trying to approach patients with reflux symptoms and could distinguish conclusive GERD from RH or FH,its values should be interpreted with caution.

Exploring the potential of drill cuttings for reservoir characterization:A case study from the Volga-Ural basin,Russia

the research objectives are to assess the possibility of using drill cutting analysis to obtain information about the mineralogical and geochemical properties of the reservoir *** cutting samples were collected from a vertical well that penetrated the Domanik sediments(Semiluksk Formation)in one of the oil fields in the Volga-Ural petroleum *** sections from drill cuttings were examined using an optical polarizing microscope(Axio Imager A2).X-ray diffraction(XRD)analyses were performed using a Brucker D2 phaser X-ray powder *** properties were studied using an StA 449 F3 Jupiter *** pyrolytic studies were performed using the Rock-Eval *** inspection showed that the studied sediments are alternations of carbonates and siliceous-carbonate *** section examinations revealed that the carbonates are mainly limestone(mudstone and wackestone)and are characterized by a dense texture and up to 30%organic *** siliceous-carbonate rocks are dominated by siliceous mudstones and are characterized by dark colours,layered structure,and an enrichment in organic *** analyses showed that the carbonate rocks are mainly composed of calcite,dolomite,quartz,feldspar,and mica,which are minor *** siliceous-carbonate rocks are dominated by quartz,followed by calcite,although they also contain feldspars,mica,dolomite,and pyrite as *** to the simultaneous thermal analysis,the average total hydrocarbon in the carbonate and siliceous-carbonate rocks is 13.6%(for the core samples)and 11.5%(for the drill cutting samples).the content of heavy hydrocarbons in the rocks is higher than the content of light hydrocarbons,indicating the immature nature of organic *** is found sporadically in siliceous-carbonate *** to the pyrolytic studies,average S1 is 4.4 mg/g and average S2 is 19.8 mg/g(for the core samples);average S1 is 2.1 mg/g and average S2 is 17.8 mg/g(for the

the use of biochar can have several effects on plant germination,depending on raw material,preparation method and application ***,the molecular mechanisms that lead to those results have yet to be *** aim of this research was to improve the understanding of these mechanisms by characterizing the metabolic effects of sugarcane bagasse biochar on soybean *** types of biochars were prepared by pyrolysis at 300℃(SCB300),400℃(SCB400)and 600℃(SCB600).then,each one was mixed into sand at 1%,3%,5%(w/w)dose,*** experiment was performed in 8 days of incubation,when the number of germinated seeds and the average radicle length were *** evaluate the metabolome,the dry biomass(DB)was subjected to extraction with a mixture of methanol-d4 and D2O(1:1 v/v).the extracts were submitted to metabolomics analysis by proton Nuclear Magnetic *** Relative Germination,Relative Average Radicle Growth and Germination Index increased in all treatments compared to *** the other hand,the DB increased in all treatments,except for SCB300,at doses of 1%and 3%w/*** metabolites(alanine,asparagine,acetic acid,citric acid,glycerol,fatty acids and sucrose)were identified and quantified in DB extracts as the most influential finding for the separation of *** together,these results strongly suggested that biochars accelerated the catabolism of triacylglycerols to sucrose and induced a slight osmotic stress.

Efficacy evaluation of standardized Rheum rhaponticum root extract(ERr 731®)on symptoms of menopause:A systematic review and meta-analysis study

Menopause is characterized by various physical,mental and emotional *** 731®is a standardized extract from Rheum rhaponticum root and has been clinically studied for its role in reducing menopausal *** current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ERr 731®supplementation in alleviating the severity of menopausal *** this review,we searched across three online databases up to March 2023,evaluated the quality of the included studies by the physiotherapy Evidence Database scale,and assessed the risk of bias by the Cochrane Risk of Bias *** then performed a metaanalysis using RevMan software to estimate the pooled mean difference(MD).the study protocol was registered in the prospective Register of Systematic Reviews(CRD42023416808).After screening and evaluation,we included four high-quality studies(a total of 390 participants;the ERr 731®group:193 participants;the control group:197 participants)in the *** results showed that ERr 731®supplementation significantly reduced the Menopause Rating Scale score(MD:–15.12;ppared with control *** analysis revealed no effect of individual studies on the overall pooled estimate or overall observed *** current review provides evidence that ERr 731®supplementation is effective in reducing menopause *** bias and high heterogeneity in the results warrant further clinical studies.

Mechanisms behind the environmental sensitivity of carbon fiber reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene(ptFE)

Carbon fiber reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene (CF/ptFE) composites are known for their exceptional tribological performance when sliding against steel or cast iron in inert gas environments. Compared to experiments in humid air, about an order of magnitude lower wear rate and several times lower coefficient of friction have been reported for tests conducted in dry nitrogen and hydrogen. Moreover, trace moisture has been shown to affect the friction and wear significantly of this tribosystem, although a possible effect of oxygen cannot be ruled out due to uncertainties regarding the oxygen concentrations. While several studies have pointed out the environmental sensitivity of CF/ptFE, the understanding of the underlying mechanisms are very limited. the objective of this research is to investigate the individual and combined effect of oxygen and moisture on the tribological behavior of CF/ptFE sliding against steel. Additionally, this study aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms that govern the environmental sensitivity of the system. Climate-controlled three-pin-on-disc experiments were conducted in nitrogen atmospheres at various concentrations of oxygen and moisture. the tribological results clearly demonstrate that both moisture and oxygen contribute to increased friction and wear. However, the adverse effect was much more pronounced for oxygen than moisture. A qualitative method was developed to estimate the tribofilm coverage on the CF/ptFE surface. Results showed strong correlation between high coverage of strongly adhered tribofilm and low wear rate. Moreover, a loosely adhered tribofilm was observed on top of the CF/ptFE surface in presence of moisture. FtIR analysis indicated that the loosely adhered tribofilm found in the moisture-enriched environment contained a significant amount of adsorbed water, which may explain the lower coefficient of friction in presence of moisture compared to oxygen. the adsorbed water in the loosely adhered tribofilm coul
