Profiling soil free-living nematodes in the Namib Desert, Namibia

Functional structure and diversity of soil free-living nematodes in a desert environment depend on plant gender and sampling *** objective of this study was to compare the composition,abundance and tropic group of soil free-living nematodes in the upper 0–10 cm soil layer under the male and female Acanthosicyos horridus *** *** and in the inter-shrub open areas(control)in the Namib Desert,Namibia in April *** moisture,organic matter(Om)and pH was also ***-living nematodes were extracted from 100 g soil using the Baermann funnel procedure,and total number of nematodes was counted under a *** composition and diversity of soil free-living nematodes were analyzed using 18S rDNA *** indicated that a total of 67 groups,including 64 species,2 genera and 1 family were *** behavior of 58 species were identified as follows:15 bacteria-feeding species,12 fungi-feeding species,10 plant-parasite species,5 omnivorous-predator species,8 animal-parasite species,5 invertebrate-parasite species and 3 non-free-living nematodes,k.own as marine ***,soil free-living nematodes were found to be affected by sampling locations and plant gender,and community composition and density of these nematodes were strongly influenced by soil Om *** confirmed that spatial location and plant cover were main factors influencing the diversity of soil free-living ***,molecular tools were found to be very useful in defining the richness of soil non-free-living *** conclusion,the results elucidated the importance of biotic variables in determining the composition and abundance of soil free-living nematodes in the Namib Desert,Namibia.

This study analyzed the dynamics of ionic liquid electrolyte inside of defunctionalized,hydrogenated,and aminated pores of carbide-derived carbon supercapacitor *** approach tailors surface functionalities and tunes nanoporous structures to decouple the influence of pore wall composition on capacitance,ionic resistance,and long-term ***-elastic neutron scattering probes the self-diffusion properties and electrode-ion interactions of electrolyte molecules confined in functionalized ***-temperature ionic liquid interactions in confined pores are strongest when the hydrogen-containing groups are present on the *** property translates into higher capacitance and greater ion transport through pores during electrochemical *** hydrogenated pores,aminated pores do not favorably interact with ionic liquid ions and,subsequently,are outperformed by defunctionalized surfaces.

Reminiscing my sixty year pursuit of the physics of the Sun and the Galaxy

Reminiscing begins with childhood and passes on to student days through graduate school and the first real contact with research. Then early academic posi- tions and stumbling efforts to pursue my ideas. The first significant progress came as a research associate with Prof. W. m. Elsasser at the University of Utah, beginning with an introduction to magnetohydrodynarnics and the generation of the geomagnetic field through induction in the liquid metal core of Earth. A move to the University of Chicago to work.with Prof. J. A. Simpson, on the implications of cosmic ray varia- tions and interplanetary magnetic fields, led to the theory of coronal expansion and the solar wind and then to exploring the dynamical effects of cosmic rays on the galactic magnetic field. Spontaneous current sheets and intrinsic rapid reconnection in interlaced magnetic field line topologies were the next big project, leading up to retirement. Finally, it is a pleasure to recall my many associates, whose fresh think.ng helped stimulate the daily research activities.

Pharmacotechnical and Chemical Study of Paracetamol Sold in k.nshasa-DR Congo: Comparative Quality Assessment of Five Brands

Paracetamol/Acetaminophen was assessed in different 5 brands comparatively to study its physicochemical and pharmaceutical parameters. We also evaluated the similarity among those brands. Widely used as an antipyretic and analgesic agent to cure fever and pain, the therapeutic efficacy of this product depends on both physicochemical and pharmaceutical qualities which include its conformity to standard specifications according to the active ingredient dosage in the formulation. This research work.aimed to assess comparatively 5 paracetamol brands tablet form sold in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (particularly in k.nshasa), on their physicochemical and pharmaceutical tests conformities compared to the standard specifications. Based on tests, we evaluated the uniformity of weight, disintegration time, friability, crushing strength (hardness), and the active ingredient dosage per brand. The tests were performed using the SotaxTm apparatus according to standard methods following the pharmacopoeia protocols. And according to the performed tests, only the fifth brand of Paracetamol coded P5 did not satisfy the friability test. About the hardness test, we have also observed the unconformity of three brands (P1, P2, and P3) while both P4 and P5 satisfied the test. This leads us to conclude that among all the studied brands, only P5 satisfy to all the tests either pharmacotechnically or chemically (identification and dosage). And this study allowed us to re-examine the equivalence concept between several princeps (original brand) with their generics since that similarity depends on many parameters that need to be improved during the manufacturing process including in-process analysis in all the phases of preparation to evaluate the rate of either active ingredient or inactive ingredient because each component can affect seriously the final pharmaceutical formulation quality.

Endothelium,acting as a barrier,protects tissues against factors that provok. insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and itself responds to the insult of insulin resistance inducers with altered *** insulin resistance and vascular dysfunction occur early in the evolution of insulin resistance-related disease,can co-exist with and even contribute to the development of metabolic insulin resistance,and promote vascular complications in those *** impact of endothelial insulin resistance and vascular dysfunction varies depending on the blood vessel size and location,resulting in decreased arterial plasticity,increased atherosclerosis and vascular resistance,and decreased tissue *** with insulin resistance and diabetes are disproportionately impacted by cardiovascular disease,lik.ly related to differential sex-hormone endothelium ***,reducing endothelial insulin resistance and improving endothelial function in the conduit arteries may reduce atherosclerotic complications,in the resistance arteries lead to better blood pressure control,and in the microvasculature lead to less microvascular complications and more effective tissue *** diabetes therapeutic modalities,including medications and exercise training,improve endothelial insulin action and vascular *** action may delay the onset of type 2 diabetes and/or its complications,mak.ng the vascular endothelium an attractive therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes and potentially type 1 diabetes.

Back.round: In the context of the fight against HIV, a lack.of sk.lls in monitoring and evaluating the personnel in charge of activities has been identified at the national level. It was the subject of a priority axis of the national plan for monitoring and evaluating the fight against HIV (2006-2010) that was aimed at strengthening the capacities of actors in this area. To increase the critical mass of competent human resources in the short term, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) of Côte d’Ivoire organized monitoring and evaluation training sessions for healthcare professionals from 2011 to 2016. methods: A single case study with multiple levels of analysis was carried out, combining a qualitative survey and a literature review. An evaluation was carried out six months after each training session. In addition, the results of the pre- and post-tests and of the daily and final evaluations that accompanied the various training sessions were used to provide further information. The qualitative data collected were analyzed using INVIVO 15 software. Results: Some 89 health professionals (69% men and 31% women) work.ng at the national level (51% at the central level, including 58% in health programs) and in development partner agencies (37%) participated in this capacity building program. most participants were senior health managers (56%), data managers (23%), and statisticians and computer scientists (10%). Almost all the trainings were financed by 16 technical and financial partners (85%), mainly the mEASURE Evaluation project (27%). Conclusion: m&E training, despite all its imperfections, has made it possible to identify m&E training needs at the national level and to increase the critical mass of national sk.lls and to have some culture in m&E.

Some properties of the Fe-based P/m composites sintered and reinforced by infiltration with Cu-Sn alloy were *** is shown that the hardness of the sintered material is 2.5 times lower,tensile strength is 1.7 times lower and the wear resistance is 2.5-3.3 times lower in comparison with those of the infiltrated *** presence of pores on the friction surface of the sintered material affects the features of the wear *** to the specific morphology of copper in the infiltrated material,the phenomenon of selective mass transfer is observed and worn surfaces have a spongy-capillary texture.

Diabetes mellitus as a risk.factor for gastrointestinal cancer among American veterans

AIm:To assess the risk.of biliary and pancreatic cancers in a large cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(Dm) .mETHODS:Eligibility for this study included patients with type 2 Dm(ICD-9 code 250.0) who were discharged from Department of Veteran Affairs hospitals between 1990 and ***-matched control patients without Dm were selected from the same patient treatment files during the same *** information included age,sex and *** diagnoses included k.own risk.factors based on their ICD-9 *** multivariate logistic regression,the occurrence of biliary and pancreatic cancer was compared between case subjects with Dm and controls without ***:A total of 1172496 case and control subjects were *** mean age for study and control subjects was 65.8 ± 11.3 and 64.8 ± 12.6 years,*** frequency of pancreatic cancer in subjects with Dm was increased(0.9%) in comparison to control subjects(0.3%) with an OR of 3.22(95% CI:3.03-3.42) .The incidence of gallbladder andextrahepatic biliary cancers was increased by twofold in diabetic patients when compared to *** OR and 95% CI were 2.20(1.56-3.00) and 2.10(1.61-2.53) ,***:Our study demonstrated that patients with Dm have a threefold increased risk.for developing pancreatic cancer and a twofold risk.for developing biliary cancer.

Therapeutic angiomyogenesis using human non-viral transduced VEGF165-myoblasts

This article reviews the scientific development of angiomyogenesis using VEGF 165 -myoblasts, a patented biotechnology platform in regenerative medicine associated with Human myoblast Genome Therapy (HmGT), also k.own as myoblast Transfer Therapy (mTT). VEGF 165 -myoblasts are the leading biologics for angiomyogenesis. This review also compares the safety and efficacy of VEGF 165 -myoblasts transduced using adenoviral vectors, nanoparticles or liposomes, in anticipation of their application in clinical trials in the near future. VEGF 165 -myoblasts are differentiated myogenic cells capable of extensive division, natural cell fusion, nucleus transfer, cell therapy and genome therapy. Following transplantation they survive, develop and function to revitalize degenerative myocardium in heart failure and ischemic cardiomyopathy animal studies. VEGF 165 -myoblasts are second generation products of HmGT/mTT which replenishes live cells and genetically repairs degenerating myofibers in Type II diabetes, muscular dystrophies, aging dysfunction and disfigurement. myoblasts have also been used to enhance sk.n and muscle appearance in cosmetology. We envision that VEGF 165 -myoblasts will provide better outcome than their non-tranduced counterparts. myoblasts are not stem cells. Their competitive advantages over stem cells are presented.
