Influence of different levels of humic acid and esterified glucomannan on growth performance and intestinal morphology of broiler chickens

A study was under taken to investigate the effect of dietary supplementations of humic acid and esterified glucomannan) on broiler performance and the morphological measurements of small intestine. Two hundred and ten day old broiler chicks were weighed and randomly assigned to seven treatment groups in triplicate. The dietary treatments included T1) control (basal diet without any additives), T2) basal diets supplemented with 0.1% humic acid, T3) basal diets supplemented with 0.2% humic acid, T4) basal diets supplemented with 0.3% humic acid, T5) basal diets supplemented with 0.1% esterified glucomannan, T6) basal diets supplemented with 0.2% esterified glucomannan and T7) basal diets supplemented with 0.3% esterified glucomannan. Different parameters including body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and morphology of small intestine were evaluated during six weeks of experimental period. According to the results, at the end of experimental period, the highest average BWG were recorded in T4 group (fed with 0.3% humic acid), compared to control (T1) and other experimental groups (p ment 7 (fed with 0.3% esterified glucomannan) as compare to other experimental groups (p mained unaffected during the experimental period in all the treatment groups. However, the lowest and the highest feed intake were observed numerically within treatments T4 and T1 with 4229.70 g and 4362.30 g, respectively. Addition of dietary supplements used in the study appeared to have significant effect on the morphology of the small intestine (jejunum mucosal development) of the broilers in different treatment groups. Considerable research has been conducted on how interrater agreement (ira) should be established before data can be aggregated from the individual rater level to the organization level in survey research. However, little is known about how researchers should treat the observations with low ira values fail to meet the suggested standard. We seek to answer this question by investigating the impact of two factors (the relationship strength and the overall ira level of a sample) on the ira decision. Using both real data from a service industry and simulated data, we find that both factors affect whether a researcher should include or exclude observations with low ira values. Based on the results, practical guidelines on when to use the entire sample are offered.

The objective of this work is to dry the mushrooms to evaluate the impact of drying on them. The drying of mushrooms in the oven, in the solar dryer and in the microwave indicated that for Termitomyces sp. the total polyphenol contents were 15.20 mgEAG/gms for the microwave drying (280 W), 13.61 mgEAG/gms for the oven drying (60°C), and 9.81 mgEAG/gms for the solar dryer drying (40°C). For Pleurotus sp., the contents obtained were 13.79 mgEAG/gms for microwave drying (280 W), 8.36 mgEAG/gms for oven drying (60°C) and 8.98 mgEAG/gms for solar drying (40°C). Regarding flavonoids, for Termitomyces sp., this revealed 0.5797 mgECa/gms for microwave drying (280 W), 0.729 mgECa/gms for oven drying (60°C) and 0.5671 mgECa/gms for solar drying (40°C). The flavonoid contents for Pleurotus sp. gave 0.842 mgECa/gms for microwave drying (280 W), 1.06 mgECa/gms for oven drying (60°C) and, 0.425 mgECa/gms for solar drying (40°C). For Termitomyces sp., the levels of free radical scavenging activity varied from 13.02 mg/mL for microwave drying, 25.08 mg/mL for oven drying, and 22.25 mg/mL for solar drying;while for Pleurotus sp., 15.96 mg/mL for microwave drying, 39.90 mg/mL for oven drying, and 31.60 mg/mL for solar drying.

Analysis of Climate Variability, Perceptions and Coping Strategies of Tanzanian Coastal Forest Dependent Communities

Climate variability and change are among the biggest challenges of the 21st century. Like in many other areas globally, the coastal communities of Tanzania have always been facing climatic variability at various time scales. Using focus group discussion and a household survey, this study analyzes the perceptions of climate variability and change and the strategies for coping and adaptation by the selected coastal rural and peri-urban communities in Tanzania. The perception of climate variability and change is complemented with the time-series analysis of rainfall and temperature data from Julius Nyerere International Airport met. station and Kisarawe using Instant Statistical Software. Results indicate that households are aware of climate variability and identify indicators of climate change and variability as being decreasing rainfall trends, increasing incidences of droughts, unpredictable rainfall patterns, disappearance of wetlands and failure to predict on-set of rainy season using traditional knowledge. Households primarily attribute reduced crop yields to changes in rainfall pattern and increasing incidences of drought leading to soil moisture stress. The implications are that the agriculture dependent households are now food insecure. As a way of coping to the observed changes, the coastal communities among others have shifted to production of high value horticultural crops and use of forest resources. Nevertheless, the increased use of forest resources is threatening the existence of coastal forests and contributes to the decline of forest resources and disappearance of wildlife in the forest reserves. It is concluded that the communities studied are aware of climate issues as revealed from perceived indicators of climate variability and changes. The results from statistical analysis of 30 years climatic data are consistent with community’s perception of climate variability and change. 在“纽约1999友谊杯”90千米马拉松赛中，45名参加者被分成3组，每组15人。从赛前7天至赛后2天的lO天时间内，三组分别口服500mg／dVc、1500mg／dVc、安慰剂，并记录赛前、赛中、赛后的饮食摄入量，抽取赛前15～18h、赛后即刻、赛后24h、48h的血液样本各35ml。结果：赛前Vc-500组和Vc-1500组的血清Vc浓度分别为128±31umol/l和153±34umol/l，明显高于安慰剂组(83±39umol／1)。赛后即刻Vc-1500组的血清皮质醇、血浆肾上腺素、IL-10、1L-lRa的浓度显著低于VcIL-ira-500组和安慰剂组。研究显示，与每天服用Vc≤500mg相比，Vc-1500组可减少肾上腺激素和抗炎类多肽的浓度物质对运动的延时反应，但却是暂时的。在超长跑运动中补充Vc可减少皮质醇、肾上腺素、白介素-10(IL-10)和白介素-1受体拮抗剂(IL-1Ra)的浓度。

Objectives -Restorative proctocolectomy with ileoanal anastomosis (IPAA) is the surgical standard for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Significant reduction in female fertility and fecundity after IPAA has been shown in recent studies. In selected cases, colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis (ira) is another surgical option. The aim of this study was to evaluate fertility in women with UC who underwent ira. Patients and methods -This study included all women with UC who underwent ira between 1962 and 1999 and who were 40 years old or younger at the time of surgery, and older than 18 years of age at the time of the interview. Data were collected using a structured telephone interview concerning reproductive behavior and waiting times to pregnancy. Results -Among 40 eligible patients, 37 whose mean age at ira was 28 years (range 11-39) answered the questionnaire. Twenty-two were unmarried, not wishful of pregnancy and / or already had children. Among 15 females wishing children after ira, 10 (66%) became pregnant: one had therapeutic abortion, two had a miscarriage, four had 1 child, two had 2 children and one had 4 children. Five patients were sterile after ira. Conclusion -These preliminary results suggest that ira for UC preserves female fertility. If confirmed in other series this information should be provided to young women with UC before deciding surgical option.
