The use of carbon nanomaterials in membrane distillation membranes:a review

membrane distillation(mD)is a thermal-based separation technique with the potential to treat a wide range of water types for various applications and *** challenges remain however,which prevent it from becoming commercially widespread including moderate permeate flux,decline in separation performance over time due to pore wetting and high thermal energy ***,its attractive characteristics such as high rejection(ca.100%)of nonvolatile species,its ability to treat highly saline solutions under low operating pressures(typically atmospheric)as well as its ability to operate at low temperatures,enabling waste-heat integration,continue to drive research interests *** particular interest is the class of carbon-based nanomaterials which includes graphene and carbon nanotubes,whose wide range of properties have been exploited in an attempt to overcome the technical challenges that mD *** low dimensional materials exhibit properties such as high specific surface area,high strength,tuneable hydrophobicity,enhanced vapour transport,high thermal and electrical conductivity and *** use in mD has resulted in improved membrane performance characteristics like increased permeability and reduced fouling *** have also enabled novel membrane capabilities such as in-situ fouling detection and localised heat *** this review we provide a brief introduction to mD and describe key membrane characteristics and fabrication *** then give an account of the various uses of carbon nanomaterials for mD applications,focussing on polymeric membrane *** research directions based on the findings are also suggested.

Neurophysiological correlates of interference control and response inhibition processes in children and adolescents engaging in open-and closed-skill sports

Background:Accumulating evidence suggests that sports participation promotes the development of inhibitory control,but the influences of the sports category and inhibition type still remain *** categorization of sports based on the open-skill(externally paced)and closed-skill(self-paced)continuum allows for the integration of the environment as a factor contributing to sports-related benefits for inhibitory ***:Cross-sectional data from different studies were combined(n=184)to examine the association between open-and closed-skill sports and cognitive control processes related to interference control and response ***(aged 9-14 years)filled in 7-day physical activity recall protocols and completed a Stroop Color-Word or a Go/NoGo *** N200,N450,and P300 components of event-related potentials elicited by these tasks were recorded using ***:Partial correlations supported the belief that time spent in open-skill sports was related to higher performance on inhibition ***,path analyses revealed an association between this sports type and a greater negativity in the N200 and N450 amplitudes in both the full sample and group-level *** contrast,no relation was found between sports type and P300 ***:The findings suggest that only the engagement in open-skill sports is associated with more effective conflict monitoring and higher performance on tasks demanding inhibitory control.

Optimizing energy efficiency and occupant comfort with climate specific design of the building

Designing energy efficient and comfortable buildings requires harmonizing the complex interactions of architecture, construction and building service engineering. The building envelope has a particular importance, since it integrates many functions and has direct influence on indoor climate. Focusing on satisfaction of the user means that the indoor climate is a key for a hotistic design approach. Only a satisfied user will not intervene with the designed energy concept or the indoor climate control; dissatisfaction results in multiple system interventions which may cause waste of energy and sometimes even damage to building envelope components. Satisfaction with the indoor environment also increases working productivity or enables effective recreation of residents. The paper deals with international research activities in the field of climate specific building design. Vanous comfort and energy monitoring surveys of office buildings as well as residentiaL buildings provide substantial information about the occupants＇ behavior and their needs during specific situations under different outdoor climates. This information allows summarizing basic climate dependent design principles which architects should keep in mind during the early stages of the design process. It also helps to develop strategies aiming at reducing building energy demand and at the same time consider comfort aspects. The second part of this paper demonstrates application of the climate dependent design principles in a housing project in Dubai.

Outcome after early mobilization following hip reconstruction in children with developmental hip dysplasia and luxation

A new recovery operator P ：Qn^disc（T）→Qn＋1^disc（m） for discontinuous Galerkin is derived. It is based on the idea of projecting a discontinuous, piecewise polynomial solution on a given mesh T into a higher order polynomial space on a macro mesh m. In order to do so, we define local degrees of freedom using polynomial moments and provide global degrees of freedom on the macro mesh. We prove consistency with respect to the local L2-projection, stability results in several norms and optimal anisotropic error estimates. As an example, we apply this new recovery technique to a stabilized solution of a singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problem using bilinear elements.

Clinical factors associated with hepatitis B screening andvaccination in high-risk adults

BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus is a viral infection that can lead to acute and/or chronic liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Hepatitis B vaccination is 95% effective in preventing infection and the development of chronic liver disease and HCC due to hepatitis B. In 2011, the Centers for Disease Control updated their guidelines recommending that adults at high-risk for hepatitis B infection be vaccinated against hepatitis B including those with diabetes mellitus(Dm). We hypothesize that adults at high-risk for hepatitis B infection are not being adequately screened and/or vaccinated for hepatitis B in a large urban healthcare *** To investigate clinical factors associated with Hepatitis B screening and vaccination in patients at high-risk for Hepatitis B *** We conducted a retrospective review of 999 patients presenting at a large urban healthcare system from 2012-2017 at high-risk for hepatitis B infection. Patients were considered high-risk for hepatitis B infection based on hepatitis B practice recommendations from the Center for Disease Control. medical history including hepatitis B serology, concomitant medical diagnoses, demographics, insurance status and social history were extracted from electronic health *** logistic regression was used to identify clinical risk factors independently associated with hepatitis B screening and *** Among the 999 patients, 556(55.7%) patients were screened for hepatitis B. Elective thoracotomy for pedicle screw removal to prevent severe aortic bleeding

We present a case of a 33-year-old female who sustained multiple injuries of her spine, including spinous process fractures of C5 to C7 and a lamina fracture of C6 and C7. Her thoracic spine showed transverse process fractures of T4 to T10, a compression fracture and lamina fracture of T3, spinous process and transverse process fractures of T4 and T5, a rotation injury of T6, as well as a compression fracture of L1. Thirteen months after posterior thoracic spinal instrumentation, a pedicle screw was suspected to be in contact with the aorta, which was proved by computed tomography angiograms. Consequently, implant removal was planned with direct exposure of the aorta in order to allow for immediate repair if needed. So far, studies that compare different techniques to remove pedicle screws that are suspected to penetrate the aorta are missing. However, different techniques have been described in case reports, mainly minimally invasive endovascular techniques vs open techniques such as thoracotomy.
