The Prevalence of Oral Lesions among Palestinian Dental Patients Attending Oral medicine Dental Clinics at Al-Quds University

Objectives: In Palestine, there are no data about the prevalence of oral lesions or their associated risk factors. Thus, this study came to assess the prevalence and the risk factors of oral lesions among adult dental patients visiting Al-Quds University (AQU) Dental Clinics. materials and methods: Three hundred Twenty patients were diagnosed clinically for the presence of oral lesions at oral medicine clinics at Al-Quds University in the period between 2015 to 2016. Their age ranged from 21 to 60 years old (mean age: 40.2 ± 17.6). Senior students were trained to conduct the oral exam under the direct supervision of Oral medicine specialist. Trained students also collected data on patients’ demographics, dental history, medical history and other health related habits. Descriptive and bivariate analyses were generated to describe lesions prevalence and associations with other suggested factors. Results: A total of 68 lesions were found in this study (29.4% of study’s sample). Recurrent aphthous ulcer, traumatic ulcer and geographic tongue were the most common oral lesions. Ten oral potentially malignant lesions were diagnosed (8 cases were Leukoplakia, 2 cases were erythroplakia). Non filtered smoking cigarettes were associated with reported lesions. Oral lesions were noticed to increase with age. Oral lesions were more common on the Tongue, labial and buccal mucosain this study. Conclusions: This study revealed high prevalence of apthous and traumatic ulcer while potentially malignant lesions like leucoplakia and erythroplakia were also seen in patients who were smokers. Dentists should have a high level of awareness during oral examination and intervention should be performed to raise awareness among the population about the harmful effects of smoking on oral health.

Background: The variability in the distribution of the null phenotypes of GSTm1 and GSTT1, due to total or partial gene deletion resulting in the lack of the active enzyme, has been reported in different populations, especially in ethnically well-defined groups but not in Tabuk. This study investigated the variability in the distribution of the null phenotypes of GSTm1 and GSTT1 in the population of Tabuk (northwestern part of Saudi Arabia). method: This study was conducted on 200 subjects of Tabuk—northwestern part of Saudi Arabia among which 100 were chronic smokers and 100 were nonsmokers. The subjects were reporting to hospital for routine checkup. All were without past history of any chronic disease and no significant abnormality. GST genotyping was done by multiplex PCR-based methods. The smoker and control groups were compared using a chi-square test with P GSTm1 deletion homozygosity of 14% and 1% was reported among non smokers and smokers, respectively whereas GSTT1 deletion homozygosity of 28% and 6% was reported among non smokers and smokers, respectively. Our results indicate that there are major differences in allelic distribution of GSTm1 and GSTT1 genes between the two groups investigated. Combined analysis of both genes revealed that 15% of smokers and non smokers harbor the deleted genotype of GSTm1 and 34% of smokers and non smokers harbor the deleted genotype of GSTT1 with significant differences. Conclusion: This study enables selecting subgroups among the general population who are more susceptible to DNA damage and will help genetic studies on the association of GST polymorphisms with disease risks and drug effects in Arab population. Studies with a larger sample size are needed to evaluate and confirm the validity of our results.

The transmittance (T) and the reflectance (R) were measured for (TmA)2ZnCl4 single crystals and hence the absorption coefficient (α), extinction coefficient (Kex.), refractive index (n), real and im-aginary dielectric constants (ε', ε") of (TmA)2ZnCl4 crystals were calculated as a function of photon energy. The analysis of the spectra behavior of the absorption coefficient in the absorption region revealed indirect transition. The dispersion of the refractive index is discussed in terms of the sin-gle oscillator Wemple-DiDomenico model. The single oscillator energy (E0), the dispersion energy (Ed), the lattice dielectric constant (εL) and the ratio of free charge carrier concentration to the ef-fective mass (N/m*) were estimated. The FTIR spectra were recorded to study the functional groups of the as grown and annealed samples.

Objective:To analyze in vivo neuro-pharmacological effects of Alpinia nigra as anxiety is a particular form of behavioral inhibition that occurs in response to novel environmental ***:In present study,the extract of Alpinia nigra was evaluated for its central nervous system depressant effect using mice behavioral models,such as hole cross,open field and thiopental sodium induced sleeping time tests for its sedative properties and an elevated plusmaze test for its anxiolytic potential,***:In anxiolytic study,the extract displayed increased percentage of entry into open arm ut the dose of 400 and 200 mg/*** extract produced a significant(Pmpared to sodium thiopental at both doses(200 and400 mg/kg).The extract t.200 and 400 mg/kg) also showed a dose-dependent suppression of motor activity and exploratory activity of the mice in both open field and hole cross ***:This study demonstrates that the treated extract has significant central nervous system depressant *** studies on active constituent of the extract can provide approaches for therapeutic intervention.

Functions are a means to link or transport from a world to another world may be similarly or completely different from the other world. In this paper we addressed the issue of rough functions and the possibility of transfer it from the real line to the topological abstract view that can be applied to intelligent information systems. The rough function approach has not been studied much specially from a topological point of view. Here we developed a new type of topological generalizations of rough functions with reference to how it is used in medical applications. Considering that the function is in the original a relation can be based on a review of all circular functions from the perspective of relations. Accordingly, the dream that the generalizations of rough functions are transferred to all papers prior to a comprehensive computer application.

AIm: To study the results for the treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoids using rubber band ligation (RBL) method. mETHODS: A retrospective study for 750 patients who came to the colorectal unit from June, 1998 to September, 2006, data was retrieved from archived fi les. RBL was performed using the mc Gown applicator on an outpatient basis. The patients were asked to return to out-patient clinic for follow up at 2 wk, 1 mo, 6 mo and through telephone call every 6 mo for 2 years). RESULTS: After RBL, 696 patients (92.8%) were cured with no difference in outcome for second or third degree hemorrhoids (P = 0.31). Symptomatic recurrence was detected in 11.04% after 2 years. A total of 52 patients (6.93%) had 77 complications from RBL which required no hospitalization. Complications were pain, rectal bleeding and vaso-vagal symptoms(4.13%, 4.13% and 1.33% of patients, respectively). At 1 mo there were a significant improvement in mean SF-36 scores over baseline in five items, while after 2 years there were improvement in all items over baseline, but not significant. No significant manometeric changes after band ligation. CONCLUSION: RBL is a simple, safe and effective method for treating symptomatic second and third degree hemorrhoids as an out patient procedure with signifi cant improvement in quality of life. RBL doesn't alter ano-rectal functions.

medium-term forecasting is an important category of electric load forecasting that covers a time span of up to one year ahead. It suits outage and maintenance planning, as well as load switching operation. We propose a new methodol-ogy that uses hourly daily loads to predict the next year hourly loads, and hence predict the peak loads expected to be reached in the next coming year. The technique is based on implementing multivariable regression on previous year's hourly loads. Three regression models are investigated in this research: the linear, the polynomial, and the exponential power. The proposed models are applied to real loads of the Jordanian power system. Results obtained using the pro-posed methods showed that their performance is close and they outperform results obtained using the widely used ex-ponential regression technique. moreover, peak load prediction has about 90% accuracy using the proposed method-ology. The methods are generic and simple and can be implemented to hourly loads of any power system. No extra in-formation other than the hourly loads is required.

This paper presents the design guide based on analytical,numerical and experimental investigation of Steel-concrete-steel(SCS)sandwich structural members comprising a lightweight concrete core with density ranged from 1300 to 1445 kg/m3 subjected to static,impact and blast *** performance of lightweight sandwich members is also compared with similar members with normal weight concrete core and ultra high strength concrete core(fc=180 mPa).Novel J-hook shear connectors were invented to prevent the separation of face plates from the concrete core under extreme loads and their uses are not restricted by the concrete core *** and punching are the primary modes of failure under static point *** test results show that the SCS sandwich panels with the J-hook connectors are capable of resisting impact load with less damage in comparison than equivalent stiffened steel plate *** tests with 100 kg TNT were performed on SCS sandwich specimens to investigate the key parameters that affect the blast resistance of SCS sandwich *** yield line method is proposed to predict the plastic capacity and post peak large deflection of the sandwich ***,an energy balanced model is developed to analyze the global behavior of SCS sandwich panels subjected to dynamic load.
