Com.arison of invasive m.thods and two different stool antigen tests for diagnosis of H pylori infection in patients with gastric bleeding

AIm. To com.are two different H pylori stool antigen tests as noninvasive diagnostic m.thods. m.THODS： The study population consisted of 22 upper gastrointestinal system.bleeding patients. Urea breath test （UBT）, rapid urease test （RUT） and histopathological exam.nation were applied to all patients. Stool specim.ns from.these patients were exam.ned by rapid STPIP!HpSA and one step sim.le H pylori antigen cassette test for the detection of Hpylori antigens. RESULTS： For these 22 patients, 15 （68.2%） were diagnosed as positive and seven （31.8%） were diagnosed negative for H pylori infection by the gold standard m.thods. Whereas 10 （45.5%） were positive and 12 （54.5%） were diagnosed negative by the rapid STPIP!HpSA test. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 60%, 86%, 90% and 50%, respectively. When com.ared to the gold standard m.thods, these differences were not significant. However, six patients （27.3%） were positive, and 16 （72.7%） were negative by the sim.le H pylori stool antigen cassette test. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 33%, 86%, 83% and 38%, respectively. Com.ared to the gold standard m.thods, the sim.le H pylori stool antigen cassette test results were significantly different （P = 0.012）. CONCLUSION： Rapid STRIP!HpSA test could be used as a routine diagnostic tool in the m.crobiology laboratory for assessing clinical significance and eradication control of H pylori in upper gastrointestinal system.bleeding patients.

An AI2O3-TiB2 nanocom.osite was success- fully synthesized by the high energy ball m.lling of A1, B2O3 and TiO2. The structures of the powdered particles form.d at different m.lling tim.s were evaluated by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron m.croscopy （SEm. and transm.ssion electron m.croscopy （TEm.. Therm.- dynam.c calculations showed that the com.osite form.d in two steps via highly exotherm.c m.chanically induced self-sustaining reactions （m.Rs）. The com.osite started to form.at m.lling tim.s of 9-10 h but the reaction was not com.lete. The rem.ining starting m.terials were consum.d by increasing the m.lling tim. to 15 h. The XRD patterns of the annealed powders showed that alum.num.borate is one of the interm.diate products and that it is consum.d at higher tem.eratures. Heat treatm.nt of the 6-h m.lled sam.le at l l00℃ led to a com.lete form.tion of the com.osite. Increasing the m.lling tim. to 15 h led to a refining of the crystallite sizes. A nanocom.osite powder with a m.an crystallite size of 35-40 nm.was obtained after m.lling for 15 h.

The m.asurem.nt of the overall m.ss flow rates in a two phase, gas/liquid pipeline is considered on the basis of dual pressure differential m.asurem.nts for a com.ined contraction/frictional pipe type of flow m.ter and a num.rical m.del to predict overall m.ss flow rates from.pressure differentials m.asured from.this type of flow m.ter is presented. The experim.nts generally conform.with the predictions of the flow rates prediction m.del. Whilst the practicability of such m.tering of two phase flows is clearly dem.nstrated, application of the m.thod would require careful calibration to allow for the influence of nozzle coefficients, pipe Reynolds num.er and void fraction upon the one dim.nsional com.ressible flow equations through wall friction factor and interphase slip effects.

AIm. To investigate the correlation between ASCA and presence of m.cosal S. cerevisiae DNA in a population of CD, ulcerative colitis （UC） patients and controls. m.THODS： S. cerevisiae-specific prim.rs and a fluorescent probe were designed for a 5＇ exonuclease real tim. PCR （Taqm.nTm. assay, which is a hom.genous system.using a fluorescent-labelled probe for the detection of PCR product in real tim.. We analyzed the relation of the PCR results with the ASCA findings in a group of 76 inflam.atory bowel disease （IBD） patients （31 CD, 45 UC） and 22 healthy controls （HC）. RESULTS： ASCA （IgA or IgG） were positive in 19 （61%） patients with CD, 12 （27%） with UC and none of the HC. PCR am.lification was inhibited and excluded from.the final results in 10 （22%） UC patients, 7 （22%） CD patients, and 6 （30%） HC. In only 15 of the m.cosal sam.les, S. cerevisiae DNA was detected by real tim. PCR, including 7 （29%） in CD, 7 （19%） in UC, 1 （6%） in HC. In 4 CD and in 4 UC patients, ASCA and m.cosal S. cerevisiae were positive. Hucosal S. cerevisiae was present in com.ination with negative ASCA IgA and IgG in 3 UC, and 3 CD patients. CONCLUSION： We conclude that since the presence of S. cerevisiae in colonic m.cosal biopsy specim.ns is very rare, ASCA is unlikely to be explained by continuous exposure to S. cerevisiae in the m.cosa. Therefore, ASCA form.tion m.st occur earlier in life and levels rem.in relatively stable thereafter in im.unological susceptible persons.

Glass fi ber reinforced gypsum.GFRG) wall panels are prefabricated panels with hollow cores, originally developed in Australia and subsequently adopted by India and China for use in buildings. This paper discusses identifi cation and calibration of a suitable hysteretic m.del for GFRG wall panels fi lled with reinforced concrete. As considerable pinching was observed in the experim.ntal results, a suitable hysteretic m.del with pinched hysteretic rule is used to conduct a series of quasi-static as inelastic hysteretic response analyses of GFRG panels with two different widths. The calibration of the pinching m.del param.ters was carried out to approxim.tely m.tch the sim.lated and experim.ntal responses up to 80% of the peak load in the post peak region. Interestingly, the sam. values of various param.ters(energy dissipation and pinching related param.ters) were obtained for all fi ve test specim.ns.

Despite these differences, there appears to be a set of ＇core＇ neuropathological features shared am.ng these and related entities. Com.on to these conditions are 1） pathological deposition of non-transferrin bound iron, 2） oxidative stress and associated protein, lipid and nucleic acid m.difications, 3） m.tochondrial m.m.rane dam.ge and bioenergetic failure, and 4） m.croautophagy in the affected neural tissues.

AIm. To determ.ne the fasting plasm. carnitine ester in patients with celiac disease. m.THODS： We determ.ned the fasting plasm. carnitine ester profile using ESI triple quadrupol m.ss spectrom.try in 33 adult patients with biopsy-confirm.d m.turity onset celiac disease m.intained on long term.gluten free diet. RESULTS： The level of free cam.bine did not differ as the celiac disease patients were com.ared with the healthy controls, whereas the acetylcarnitine level was m.rkedly reduced （4.703± 0.205 vs 10.227 ± 0.368 nm.l/m., P〈0.01）. The level of propionylcarnitine was 61.5%, butyrylcarnitine 56.9%, hexanoylcarnitine 75%, octanoylcarnitine 71.1%, octenoylcarnitine 52.1%, decanoylcarnitine 73.1%, cecenoylcarnitine 58.3%, lauroylcarnitine 61.5%, m.ristoylcarnitine 66.7%, m.ristoleylcarnitine 62.5% and oleylcarnitine 81.1% in the celiac disease patients com.ared to the control values, respectively （P〈0.01）. CONCLUSION： The m.rked decrease of circulating acetylcarnitine with 50-80 % decrease of 11 other carnitine esters shows that the carnitine ester m.tabolism.can be influenced even in clinically asym.tom.tic and well being adult celiac disease patients, and gluten withdrawal alone does not necessarily norm.lize all elem.nts of the disturbed carnitine hom.ostasis.

Effects of tungsten and boron contents on the therm.l properties and m.crohardness of W-Fe-B m.tallic glass system.were studied. Thin foils, with thicknesses of 20 and 100 ktm. of the alloys were produced by piston and anvil m.thod in an arc furnace. The structures of the foils were investigated by X-ray diffraction. Therm.l stabilities of the alloys were exam.ned by using differential scanning calorim.try. 20-μm. thick foils of all the alloys were determ.ned to be fully am.rphous, but crystalline phases were detected in the 100-μm.thick foils. It was found that crystallization tem.eratures of the alloys are between 1060 and 1177 K. Tungsten and boron content increases im.rove the crystallization tem.erature and m.crohardness of the alloys significantly, but deteriorate the glass form.ng ability of the alloys. It was also observed that for constant Fe content, increasing tungsten content to the level higher than that of boron content does not result in any further im.rovem.nt in crystallization tem.erature, but im.roves glass form.ng ability significantly. The alloy containing highest total am.unt of tungsten and boron, W35Fe35B3o, has the highest crystallization tem.erature, 1177 K, and m.crohardness, 1634 HV.
