The introduction of species is a leading cause of biodiversity loss and habitat *** species have invaded mexican freshwater ecosystems,adversely affecting native ***,in the Amacuzac River of the Balsas Basin(Central mexico),at least four non-native cichlids have been recorded:tilapia Oreochromis sp.,convict cichlid Amatitlania nigrofasciata,spotcheek cichlid Thorichthys maculipinnis,and green terror Andinoacara *** species co-occur with the mexican mojarra Amphilophus istlanus,the only native cichlid in the *** cichlids compete for resources such as shelter and food,and prey on offspring of the mexican *** the presence of invasive cichlids,the costs and risks of foraging and finding available shelter increase for the native *** pressure from invasive cichlid fishes on the mexican mojarra increases the time invested by parents in caring for offspring and their stress levels,potentially contributing to mexican mojarra population ***,we gathered the best evidence available to discuss some mechanisms and consequences of such co-occurrences in relation to reproductive behaviors,parental care,competition for resources,and dominance hierarchy,and how the four invasive cichlids have negatively affected the mexican mojarra.

In simulations of fluidized beds using computational fluid dynamics （CFD）, the description of gas-solid flow hydrodynamics relies on a drag model to account for the momentum transfer between gas and solid phases. Although several studies of drag models have been published, there have been few investigations of the application of lattice Boltzmann method （LBm）-based drag models to bubbling fluidized bed simu- lations. In the present study, a comprehensive comparison of empirical and LBm-based drag models was carried out to assess the performance of these models during simulations of gas-solid flow hydrodynam- ics in a bubbling fluidized bed. A CFD model using the mFIX code based on the Eulerian-Eulerian approach and the kinetic theory of granular flow was used to simulate a 2D bubbling fluidized bed with Geldart B particles. The simulation results were validated by comparison with experimental data. Statistical anal- ysis of the results shows that LBm-based drag models can reliably model gas-solid flow hydrodynamics in a bubbling fluidized bed.

Correlation between visual function and refractive,topographic, pachymetric and aberrometric data in eyes with keratoconus

AImTo analyze the relationship between two visual functions and refractive, topographic, pachymetric and aberrometric indicators in eyes with *** distance visual acuity (CDVA), and letter contrast sensitivity (CS) were correlated with refraction, corneal topography, pachymetry, and total corneal wavefront data prospectively in 71 eyes with keratoconus. The topographic indices assessed were simulated keratometry for the flattest and steepest meridians (SimK1 and SimK2), posterior steeper K (Ks), elevation value in best-fit sphere (BFS) maps, squared eccentricity (Є2), aspheric asymmetric index (AAI), pachymetry, thickness progression index (TPI), the amount of pachymetric decentralization (APD), and GalileiTm-keratoconus *** mean CDVA (expressed as logmAR) were 0.25±0.21. The mean CS was 1.25±0.46. The spherical refraction correlated well with CDVA (r=-0.526, Pm topographic indices, SRI correlated with CS (r=-0.695), and IAI with CS (r=-0.672) (Pmean square (RmS) was 4.3±1.81 µm, spherical aberration (SA) was -0.4±0.67 µm, vertical and horizontal coma were -2.1±1.47 and -0.4±0.72 µm. All wavefront data (except horizontal coma), AAI, Є2 and maximum BFS correlated significantly with the visual function (P≤0.001 for all).CONCLUSIONIn this study, CS is more affected than CDVA as a visual function. The quantity and quality of vision is significantly correlated with well-known and new topographic indices. There is not a significant correlation between visual function and pachymetric parameters. The significantly correlated indices can be used in staging keratoconus and to follow the outcome of a treatment.

Localized micronutrient patches induce lateral root foraging and chemotropism in Nicotiana attenuata

Nutrients are distributed unevenly in the *** plasticity in root growth and proliferation may enable plants to cope with this variation and effectively forage for essential nutrients. However, how micronutrients shape root architecture of plants in their natural environments is poorly understood. We used a combination of field and laboratory-based assays to determine the capacity of Nicotiana attenuata to direct root growth towards localized nutrient patches in its native environment. Plants growing in nature displayed a particular root phenotype consisting of a single primary root and a few long, shallow lateral roots. Analysis of bulk soil surrounding the lateral roots revealed a strong positive correlation between lateral root placement and micronutrient gradients, including copper, iron and zinc. In laboratory assays, the application of localized micronutrient salts close to lateral root tips led to roots bending in the direction of copper and iron. This form of chemotropism was absent in ethylene and jasmonic acid deficient lines,suggesting that it is controlled in part by these two hormones. This work demonstrates that directed root growth underlies foraging behavior, and suggests that chemotropism and micronutrient-guided root placement are important factors that shape root architecture in nature.

Shear wave elastography in hepatitis C patients before and after antiviral therapy

AIm To investigate shear wave(SW) propagation velocity in patients with untreated hepatitis C and patients with sustained virological response(SVR). mETHODS A total of 136 hepatitis C patients [85 patients who had not received antiviral therapy(na?ve group) and 51 patients who had received antiviral therapy and subsequently achieved SVR of at least 24 wk(SVR group)] and 58 healthy volunteers and outpatients without liver disease(control group) underwent evaluation of liver stiffness by SW elastography(SWE). Various parameters were evaluated in the chronic hepatitis C patients at the time of *** SW propagation velocity(Vs) was 1.23 ± 0.14 m/s in the control group, 1.56 ± 0.32 m/s in the SVR group, and 1.69 ± 0.31 m/s in the na?ve group. Significant differences were seen between the control group and the SVR group(P = 0.0000) and between the SVR group and the na?ve group(P = 0.01417). All four fibrosis markers were higher in the na?ve group than in the SVR group. In the na?ve group, Vs was positively correlated with alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(r = 0.5372), α feto protein(AFP)(r = 0.4389), type Ⅳ collagen(r = 0.5883), procollagen Ⅲ peptide(P-Ⅲ-P)(r = 0.4140), hyaluronic acid(r = 0.4551), and mac-2 binding protein glycosylation isomer(m2BPGi)(r = 0.6092) and negatively correlated with albumin(r =-0.4289), platelets(r =-0.5372), and prothrombinactivity(r =-0.5235). On multiple regression analysis, Vs was the most strongly correlated with ALT(standard partial regression std β = 0.4039, P = 0.00000). In the SVR group, Vs was positively correlated with AFP(r = 0.6977), type IV collagen(r = 0.5228), P-Ⅲ-P(r = 0.5812), hyaluronic acid(r = 0.5189), and m2BPGi(r = 0.6251) and negatively correlated with albumin(r =-0.4283), platelets(r =-0.4842), and prothrombin activity(r =-0.4771).
