The complex impedance of the bis(2-amino-6-methylpyridine)tetrachloridozincate compound(C_(6)H_(9)N_(2))_(2)ZnCl_(4) has been investigated in the temperature range 313-403K and in the frequency range 200 *** impedance plots show semicircle arcs at different temperatures and an electrical equivalent circuit has been proposed to explain the impedance *** circuits consist of the parallel combination of bulk resistance R_(p) and constant phase elements(CPE).The bulk resistance of the material decreases with rise in *** conduction activation energies are estimated from Arrhenius *** frequency-dependent conductivity data arefitted in the modified power law:σ_(ac)(ω)=σ_(dc)+A_(1)ω^(s1)+A_(2)ω^(s2).Dielectric data were analyzed using complex electrical modulus m^(*) at various *** modulus plot can be characterized by full width at half height or by β values of Kohlrausch-William-Watts(KWW)*** energy of hopping is almost close to the activation energy of conduction suggesting a hopping transport mechanism.

The potassium salts of thiocarboxanilide of 2- phenylimino-3-phenyl-4-thiazolidinone and 1,3- diphenyl-2-thioxo-4-imidazolone react with hydrazonoyl halides in N,N-dimethylformamide to afford the corresponding 1,3,4-thiadiazoline derivatives. 2-Phenylimino-3-phenyl-4-thiazolidinone reacts with active chloromethylene compounds in N,N-dimethylformamide to give the corresponding thiazolylidenethiazolidin-4-one derivatives. The new compounds were characterized using IR, 1H NmR, 13C NmR and mass spectra.

Degree of Hyper-Dynamic Circulation Correlates with the Severity of Liver Disease and Predicts Poor Outcome in Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis Patients in Intensive Care Unit

Background: Circulatory dysfunction is known in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) patients. We aimed to determine whether degree of hyper-dynamic circulation is significantly correlated with severity of liver disease and poor outcome in these patients or not. methods: 61 patients diagnosed to have SBP were enrolled. In addition to routine laboratory investigation, Child Pugh and APACHE II scores were calculated for all patients. Degree of renal impairment was defined using Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN) criteria. Stroke volume (SV) was measured by m mode and 2-dimensional Doppler echocardiography. Cardiac output (CO) and Systemic vascular resistance (SVR) were also calculated. All data were statistically analyzed. Results: SV, CO, SVR were significantly correlated with Child Pugh score, p value 0.001, respectively. In 46 (75.4%) patients who had AKI, degree of kidney injury using AKIN criteria is significantly correlated with SVR, SV, and CO. Inpatient mortality occurred in 10 (16.4%) patients. Non-survivors had lower SVR and higher SV and CO compared to survivors (1805 ± 105 dyn·sec/cm2, 80.3 ± 11.2 ml, and 6.7 ± 1.1 L/min vs 1936 ± 504, 67.6 ± 12.7, and 5.7 ± 0.9, p value 0.029, 0.005, 0.007 respectively). Using the Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve, the cut-off value of CO that predicts mortality was 5.89 L/min with sensitivity and specificity measuring 80%, 70.6% respectively. The area under the curve (AUC) is 0.767 with 95% confidence interval (CI) is 0.566 to 0.968, p value 0.008. At this value, the odds ratio (OR) is 7.33 with p value 0.012. Conclusion: Degree of hyper-dynamic circulation is significantly correlated with the severity of liver disease and predicts poor outcome in SBP patients.

Electrochemical Characterization of Streptavidin-HRP Immobilized on multiwall Carbon Nanotubes for Biosensor Applications

In this work, we used gold labeled multiwall carbons nanotubes for peroxidase biosensor. The gold labeling on multiwall carbon nanotubes can be achieved with Pressure vapor Deposition (PVD) technique. The obtained carbon nanotubes can be immobilized on gold electrode with the airbrushing technique. The stability and the molecular structure of the labeled multiwall carbon nanotubes were characterized with cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy and Fourrier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy (FTIR). It shows a higher conductivity and a good stability in water interface. For streptavidin-HRP immobilization, the labeled gold nanotubes were activated over night with thiol-acid (16 carbons). An activation procedure was achieved with EDC/NHS for HRP-streptavidin immobilization. The development of biosensor for H2O2 detection was observed with the impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques. This method could be used to determine total H2O2 concentration in the range 4 μm - 160 μm. The results show that the biosensor response depends on the conductivity and the large surface-to-volume ratio attained with multiwall carbon nanotubes. The response of the developed biosensors was reproducible with higher stability.

Co(II) and Cr(III) metal complexes of Schiff bases were synthesized from the condensation reaction between 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde and 4-amino-3-hydroxy-naphthalene-1-sulfonic acid. Their structures were investigated by elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, infrared spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy, and 1HNmR spectroscopy. The elemental analysis data suggested a 1:1 [m:L] ratio for the complexes. The molar conductance measurements of the complexes indicate their electrolytic nature in DmSO as a solvent. The absorption bands in the electronic spectra verified an octahedral environment around the metal ions in the complexes.

The aim of this study was to the evaluation of frequency and distribution of Serratia marcescens in the hospital departments and determination of antimicrobial resistance of the isolated strains. methods: The study included 81 Serratia marcescens strains isolated from 61 patients hospitalized in the in the different hospital wards of Al-Noor Specialist Hospital within the period from 1/11/2012 to 1/11/2013. The strains were isolated from wound swabs, blood cultures, sputum, urine culture, fluid, catheter and throat swab, wound swabs, blood cultures and cerebrospinal fluid. Results: The isolates were identified by conventional method and the results and susceptibility testing were confirmed by VITEC-2 Compact. most frequently Serratia marcescens has been implicated in ICU [21%] followed by male medical [18.5%] and emergency department [12.3%]. The resistance of Serratia strains was high, excepting imipenem (15%), meropenem (27) and the resistance was higher with ampicillin (97.5%), Cefoxitin (90%) and Tetracycline (86%). Conclusion: Continuous monitoring of nosocomial infections is indispensable. Phenotypic characterization of the isolates is useful for studying the relationship of microbial pathogens.
