Socialmedia such as Twitter is increasingly beingused as an effective platform to observe human behaviors in disastrous ***,uneven social media use among different groups of population in different regions could lead to biased consequences and affect disaster *** paper studies the Twitter use during 2017 Hurricane Harvey in 76 counties in Texas and *** seek to answer a fundamental question:did socialgeographical disparities of Twitter use exist during the three phases of emergency management(preparedness,response,recovery)?We employed a Twitter data mining framework to process the data and calculate two indexes:Ratio and *** analyses between the Ratio indexes and the social-geographical characteristics of the counties at the three phrases reveal significant social and geographical disparities in Twitter use during Hurricane *** with higher disasterrelated Twitter use in Harvey generally were communities having better social and geographical *** results of Twitter use patterns can be used to compare with future similar studies to see whether the Twitter use disparities have increased or *** research is also needed to examine the effects of Twitter use disparities on disaster resilience and to test whether Twitter use can predict community resilience.

FOXP3 and Its Cofactors as Targets of Immunotherapies

Forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) is a “master regulator” of regulatory T cells (Tregs), which are a subset of T cells that can suppress the antigen-specific immune reaction and that play important roles in host tolerance and immune homeostasis. It is well known that FOXP3 forms complexes with several proteins and can be regulated by various post-translational modifications (PTms) such as acetylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and methylation. As a consequence, the PTms change the stability of FOXP3 and its capability to regulate gene expression, and eventually affect Treg activity. Although FOXP3 per se is not an ideal drug target, deacetylases, acetyltransferases, kinases, and other enzymes that regulate the PTms of FOXP3 are potential targets to modulate FOXP3 and Treg activity. However, FOXP3 is not the only substrate for most of these enzymes;thus, unwanted ‘‘on target/off FOXP3” side effects must be considered when inhibitors to these enzymes are used. In this review, we summarize recent progress in the study of FOXP3 cofactors and PTm proteins, and potential clinical applications in autoimmunity and cancer immunity.

Natural killer (NK) cells are indispensable components of both the innate and adaptive immune response. However,their precise roles in the cross-talk between innate and adaptive immunity during influenza virus infection remaincontroversial. By comparing NK cell dynamics and activity under a sub-lethal dose and high dose of influenza virusinfection, we showed that influenza virus PR8 directly infected NK cells during natural infection, which wasconsistent with our previous findings obtained from an in vitro investigation of human NK cells. The impairments incytotoxicity and IFN-γ production by spleen NK cells following high-dose infection were accompanied by decreasedvirus-specific killing mediated by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). Importantly, the weakened CTL activity could bereversed by adoptive transfer of spleen NK cells harvested from low-dose-infected mice but not healthy *** together, our data provide direct evidence supporting the contribution of NK cells to antiviral T-cellresponses. This study also indicates that a novel NK-targeted immune evasion strategy is used by influenza virusto shrink both innate and adaptive immune responses.

AIm:To review international guidelines and to share our infection control experience during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic at a tertiary eye centre in Hong ***:Infection control guidelines and recommendations from international ophthalmological bodies are reviewed and *** measures at our hospital were drawn up as per international and local health authorities’guidelines and implemented with the collaboration of doctors,nurses and administrative ***:The aims of our infection control measures are to 1)minimize cross-infection within the hospital;2)protect and support hospital staff;3)ensure environmental *** minimize the risk of cross-infection,outpatient attendance and elective surgery have been reduced by 40%,and general anesthesia procedures were reduced by 90%.Patients entering the hospital are screened for fever,travel history,contact and cluster history,and COVID-19 related *** protect and support hospital staff,we ensure provision of adequate personal protective equipment(PPE)and provide clear guidelines on the level of PPE needed,depending on the clinical *** protective measures include provision of work uniforms,easy access to alcohol-based hand rub,opening new lunch areas,implementation of self-monitoring and self-reporting systems,and communication via online education and ***,environmental control is achieved by ensuring regular disinfection of the hospital premise,enhancing ventilation,and usage of disposable ophthalmic ***:Our multi-pronged approach to infection control is,so far,successful in minimizing infection risks,while allowing the maintenance of essential ophthalmic services.

Background: mycobacterium (m) chelonei keratitis is a rare opportunistic eye infection that can cause significant morbidity when not being treated properly. The first case was documented by Gangadharam et al in 1978 and since then, a total of 49 cases were reported in the literature. One alarming fact is that more than 50% of cases were found in the Chinese population and mostly reported in recent years. The key to successful management of m. chelonei keratitis is early diagnosis by high index of suspicion. 本文报告我国登革2型04株包膜蛋白基因的核苷酸及氨基酸序列,并与登革1、3、4型及其它2型毒株如几内亚C株(NGC)、牙买加株1409(JAm)、候选疫苗株S1以及马来西亚当地流行株m1(登革出血热)、m2(登革休克综合征)。 m3(登革热)进行比较。结果表明D_2-04株E蛋白基因的核苷酸序列与NGC,JAm和S1的同源性分别为95.0％、97.4％和90.0％;与m1、m2、m3的同源性分别为93.3％、92.1％和94.3％;与其它登革血清型的同源性大约为65％。登革2型04株蛋白的氨基酸序列与NGC、JAm、S1、m1、m2、m3的类似性分别为96.8％、97.2％、91.4％、95％、95.6％和94.3％。与其它登革血清型氨基酸类似性大约为62％～68％;与其它黄病毒的类似性范围为43％～47％。推断的氨基酸序列显示出7个保守的半胱氨酸残基及两个潜在的糖基化位点,分别位于Asn-67和Asn-153位。

Assessment of Long Term UV Radiation measured by the Brewer Spectrophotometer in Hong Kong during 1995-2005

Time series of daily UV radiation measured by the ground-based Brewer spectrophotometer #115 in Hong Kong during 1995-2005 were studied through statistics analysis, with focus on the variability and long term changes in relation to total ozone, clouds and AOD (Aerosol Optical Depth). The 11-year mean UV daily dose is 2644±262 J/m2, with maxima(3311 J/m2) in 2000 and minima (2415 J/m2) in 2002. The data were compared with that from TOmS (Total Ozone mapping Spectrometer) Version 8 and show general agreement between the two. However, the Brewer UV measurement is about 10% lower compared to TOmS data. Apart from the common-known strong seasonal cycle, 26 month periodical was resolved by use of wavelet analysis, which was believed to be associated with quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) of general circulation. In cloudy days, the annual mean UV daily dose decrease 3.5% to 44.5% compared to clear days. It was also found that surface UV irradiance has close relation to air pollution. Under clear sky condition, 1% AOD increase will lead to 0.2% UV decrease. While global UV radiation increase due to the worldwide observed ozone depletion, investigations indicate that this trend is not significant in Hong Kong during the last 11 years. The possible causes can be attributed to the compensative effect from two aspects. One is the increase of UV resulting from the reduction of clouds with rate of 0.56/10 yr. The other is the decrease of UV due to the enhancement of total ozone and AOD with a rate of 4.23 DU/10 yr and 0.33/10 yr, respectively.

Spectrum of NSD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome

Background Sotos syndrome is an overgrowth syndrome with characteristic facial gestalt and mental retardation of variable severity. Haploinsufficiency of the NSD 1 gene has been implicated as the major cause of Sotos syndrome, with a predominance of microdeletions reported in Japanese patients. This study was conducted to investigate into the spectrum of NSD1 gene mutations in southern Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome. methods Thirty-six Chinese patients with Sotos syndrome and two patients with Weaver syndrome were subject to molecular testing. Results NSD1 gene mutations were detected in 26 （72%） Sotos patients. microdeletion was found in only 3 patients, while the other 23 had point mutations （6 frameshift, 8 nonsense, 2 spice site, and 7 missense）. Of these, 19 mutations were never reported. NSD1 gene mutations were not found in the two patients with Weaver syndrome. Conclusions most cases of Sotos syndrome are caused by NSD1 gene defects, but the spectrum of mutations is different from that of Japanese patients. Genotype-phenotype correlation showed that patients with microdeletions might be more prone to congenital heart disease but less likely to have somatic overgrowth. The two patients with Weaver syndrome were not found to have NSD1 gene mutations, but the number was too small for any conclusion to be drawn.
