Slow Pyrolysis of Sugarcane Bagasse for the Production of Char and the Potential of its By-Product for Wood Protection

Sugarcane bagasse was pyrolyzed using a laboratory fixed bed reactor to produce char and its by-product(pyrolysis liquid).The pyrolysis experiments were carried out using different temperatures(400℃ and 500℃),heating rate(1℃/min and 10℃/min),and holding time(30 min and 60 min).Char was characterized according to its thermal properties,while the pyrolysis liquid was tested for its anti-fungal and anti-termite *** temperature and heating rate had a significant influence on the char properties and the yield of char and pyrolysis liquid,where a high-quality char and high yield of pyrolysis liquid can be obtained at a temperature of 500℃ and a heating rate of 10℃/*** yield of char and pyrolysis liquid was 28.97%and 55.46%,*** principal compounds of pyrolysis liquid were water,acetic acid,glycolaldehyde,1-hydroxy-2-propanone,methanol,formic acid,levoglucosan,furfural,followed by some phenol compounds and guaiacol *** liquid at a concentration of 0.20%and 0.25%(v/v)caused a 100%inhibition of Coniophora puteana and Trametes versicolor,respectively,when performing inhibition growth tests in Petri *** paper treated with 10%of pyrolysis liquid caused 100%of termite mortality,while only 5.65%–7.03%of the treated filter papers consumed by termites at such *** liquid is potentially effective to be used in the formulation of wood protection against fungi and termites.

modern agricultural machinery demands adoption of embedded electronic and remote sensing technology for precision *** of the electronic devices commonly used is the virtual terminal(VT) for tractors.A VT's functions and terminology are described in the iSO 11783 *** paper presents a control system design and implementation for a VT and some other electronic control units(ECUs) for agricultural vehicles based on that *** and software development for the VT is implemented using the iSOAgLib open library,in the advanced embedded *** main part of the system is an embedded board based on a Samsung S3C6410 ARm11 core microprocessor with a controller area network(CAN) *** working environment is Windows Embedded CE 6.0(WinCE6.0).The iSOAgLib library provides abundant open sources consistent implementation of iSO *** is written in C++ programming language using object-oriented *** this paper,we describe an iSO 11783-based tractor control system with a CAN and its implementation in the embedded *** paper also explains the operation of a CAN-bus device driver in WinCE6.0 and some modifications of iSOAgLib for our target *** target system consists of the VT,an ECU for the global positioning system(GPS),and an ECU for lighting for an agricultural *** ECU for GPS and the ECU of a light controller are implemented using STm32F107F ARm Cortex m3-based development boards.

Epileptic seizure detection using EEG signals and extreme gradient boosting

The problem of automated seizure detection is treated using clinical electroencephalograms(EEG) and machine learning algorithms on the Temple University Hospital EEG Seizure Corpus(TUSZ).Performances on this complex data set are still not encountering *** purpose of this work is to determine to what extent the use of larger amount of data can help to improve the *** methods are explored:a standard partitioning on a recent and larger version of the TUSZ,and a leave-one-out approach used to increase the amount of data for the training ***,a fast implementation of the gradient boosting classifier,is the ideal algorithm for these *** performances obtained are in the range of what is reported until now in the literature with deep learning *** give interpretation to our results by identifying the most relevant features and analyzing performances by seizure *** show that generalized seizures tend to be far better predicted than focal *** also notice that some EEG channels and features are more important than others to distinguish seizure from background.

Organic-inorganic halide perovskites have significant potential for application in next-generation solar ***,their applications are limited by challenges associated with large-area processability and long-term stability owing to the presence of pinholes and defect ***,we incorporated cesium formate in a perovskite active layer using a sequential perovskite fabrication process to eliminate the defect sites of perovskites and improve the film processability via roll-to-roll(R2R)*** addition of cesium formate salt to the Pbi2 layer influences the perovskite crystal formation behavior as well as increases the perovskite crystallinity and decreases the defect ***,cesium formate addition eliminated small Pbi2 grains and smoothed the perovskite surface,resulting in a large crystal grain *** formate ions interact with the Pbi2 component and passivate halide vacancy defects,reducing nonradiative recombination and improving charge ***,the treated perovskite films were highly stable in air,exhibiting improved efficiency retention over time and achieving a power conversion efficiency(PCE)of>22%compared to the ***,the additive-treated perovskite film was processed using the R2R method,achieving a high PCE of>14%with minimal hysteresis.

Various redox-active organic molecules can serve as ideal electrode materials to realize sustainable energy storage systems. Yet, to be more appropriate for practical use, considerable architectural engineering of an ultrathick, high-loaded organic electrode with reliable electrochemical performance is of crucial importance. Here, by utilizing the synergetic effect of the non-covalent functionalization of highly conductive non-oxidized graphene flakes (NOGFs) and introduction of mechanically robust cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-intermingled structure, a very thick (≈ 1 mm), freestanding organic nanohybrid electrode which ensures the superiority in cycle stability and areal capacity is reported. The well-developed ion/electron pathways throughout the entire thickness and the enhanced kinetics of electrochemical reactions in the ultrathick 5,10-dihydro-5,10-dimethylphenazine/NOGF/CNF (DmPZ-NC) cathodes lead to the high areal energy of 9.4 mWh·cm−2 (= 864 Wh·kg−1 at 158 W·kg−1). This novel ultrathick electrode architecture provides a general platform for the development of the high-performance organic battery electrodes.

Three-dimensional(3D)nanoarchitectures have offered unprecedented material performances in diverse applications like energy storages,catalysts,electronic,mechanical,and photonic *** outstanding performances are attributed to unusual material properties at the nanoscale,enormous surface areas,a geometrical uniqueness,and comparable feature sizes with optical *** the practical use of the unusual nanoscale properties,there have been developments for macroscale fabrications of the 3D nanoarchitectures with process areas over centimeter *** the many fabrication methods for 3D structures at the nanoscale,proximity-field nanopatterning(PnP)is one of the promising techniques that generates 3D optical holographic images and transforms them into material structures through a lithographic *** conformal and transparent phase masks as a key factor,the PnP process has advantages in terms of stability,uniformity,and reproducibility for 3D nanostructures with periods from 300 nm to several *** merits of realizing precise 3D features with sub-100 nm and rapid processes are attributed to the interference of coherent light diffracted by phase *** this review,to report the overall progress of PnP from 2003,we present a comprehensive understanding of PnP,including its brief history,the fundamental principles,symmetry control of 3D nanoarchitectures,material issues for the phase masks,and the process area expansion to the wafer-scale for the target ***,technical challenges and prospects are discussed for further development and practical applications of the PnP technique.

Southeast Asian aborigines, the hunter-gatherer populations living in tropical rainforests, exhibit distinct morphological phenotypes, including short stature, dark skin, curly hair and a wide and snub nose. The underlying genetic architecture and evolutionary mechanism of these phenotypes remain a long-term mystery. We conducted whole genome deep sequencing of 81 Cambodian aborigines from eight ethnic groups. Through a genome-wide scan of selective sweeps, we discovered key genes harboring Cambodian-enriched mutations that may contribute to their phenotypes, including two hair morphogenesis genes(TCHH and TCHHL1), one nasal morphology gene(PAX3) and a set of genes(such as ENTPD1-AS1) associated with short stature. The identified new genes and novel mutations suggest an independent origin of the distinct phenotypes in Cambodian aborigines through parallel evolution, refuting the long-standing argument on the common ancestry of these phenotypes among the worldwide rainforest hunter-gatherers. Notably, our discovery reveals that various types of molecular mechanisms, including antisense transcription and epigenetic regulation, contribute to human morphogenesis, providing novel insights into the genetics of human environmental adaptation.
