Screenning of Chlamydia trachomatis Infection among Women Attending Outpatient Clinic of Infertility

Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence of C. trachomatis in women diagnosed with infertility attending the Outpatient Clinic of Infertility from Botucatu medical School, UNESP, Brazil. Patients and methods: This molecular study enrolled a total of 112 women. Among these patients, 62 presented primary infertility while 50 presented secondary infertility. The criteria for eligibility included women who were: reproductive-aged;no prior report of seroconversion for HIV;no antibiotic or vaginal cream used in the preceding 30 days;and abstinence from sexual intercourse for 72 hours before the visit. The women were submitted to a gynecological examination and cervical samples were collected with an endocervical cytobrush for molecular analysis of C. trachomatis. Results: The prevalence of chlamydial infection was 8% with similar prevalence between primary (8.1%) and secondary (8.0%) infertility. Conclusion: Considering the asymptomatic nature of chlamydial infection and its association with tubal factor infertility, there is a pressing need to incorporate the screening of C. trachomatis infection as part of the routine investigation for infertility. The early diagnostic by screening can minimize complications and reduce Public Health costs with Assisted Reproductive Technology.

以二苯基硅烷作改性剂制备了改性白炭黑,研究了二苯基硅烷用量对白炭黑补强SBR性能的影响。结果表明,加入二苯基硅烷后,SBR胶料焦烧时间、工艺正硫化时间及最高转矩均明显增大,最低转矩逐渐减小;加入二苯基硅烷对SBR硫化胶力学性能有一定的改善作用;当用量为2份时,SBR硫化胶综合力学性能较好。随着二苯基硅烷用量的增大,SBR硫化胶0℃损耗因子tanδ略有增大,60℃损耗因子tanδ略有减小;白炭黑在SBR中的附聚体尺寸明显降低;当其用量为1份时,白炭黑附聚体尺寸达到最小值9.46μm。

Lymphedema in the mastectomy Postoperative Period:An Integrative Literature Review

Aims and Objectives: To analyze the evidence available in the literature on the stages during which upper limb lymphedema after mastectomy occurs. Background: Among the adverse effects of breast cancer treatment, lymphedema is the most prevalent. Design: Integrative literature review. methods: The Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde—LILACS), Pubmed, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were used to select the pertinent studies. The identification data for these studies were summarized, and their methodological features and results were extracted. Results: Regarding the time elapsed since surgery, the highest prevalence of lymphedema corresponded to the late postoperative period, and regarding its severity, mild lymphedema was the most prevalent form. The prevalence was also the highest among the women who were subjected to radical mastectomy and radiotherapy. Conclusions: many women who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer use strategies for the prevention and control of lymphedema of the upper limb following mastectomy. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The findings of the present study might inform future studies aiming to assess strategies that can be started in the immediate and late postoperative stages to detect lymphedema early and prevent the increase of its prevalence during the late postoperative period after mastectomy.

Structural and molecular features of intestinal strictures in rats with Crohn's-like disease

AIm: To develop a new rat model we wanted to gain a better understanding of stricture formation in Crohn's disease(CD).mETHODS: Chronic colitis was induced locally by the administration of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid(TNBS). The relapsing inflammation characteristic to CD was mimicked by repeated TNBS treatments. Animals were randomly divided into control, once, twice and three times TNBS-treated groups. Control animals received an enema of saline. Tissue samples were taken from the strictured colonic segments and also adjacent proximally and distally to its 60, 90 or 120 d after the last TNBS or saline administrations. The frequency and macroscopic extent of the strictures were measured on digital photographs. The structural features of strictured gut wall were studied by light- and electron microscopy. Inflammation related alterations in TGF-beta 2 and 3, matrix metalloproteinases 9(mmP9) and TImP1 m RNA and protein expression were determined by quantitative real-time PCR and western blot analysis. The quantitative distribution of caspase 9 was determined by post-embedding ***: Intestinal strictures first appeared 60 d after TNBS treatments and the frequency of them increased up to day 120. From day 90 an intact lamina epithelialis, reversible thickening of lamina muscularis mucosae and irreversible thickening of the muscularis externa were demonstrated in the strictured colonic segments. Nevertheless the morphological signs of apoptosis were frequently seen and excess extracellular matrix deposition was recorded between smooth muscle cells(SmCs). Enhanced caspase 9 expression on day 90 in the SmCs and on day 120 also in myenteric neurons indicated the induction of apoptosis. The m RNA expression profile of TGF-betas after repeated TNBS doses was characteristic to CD, TGF-beta 2, but not TGF-beta 3 was up-regulated. Functional and Structural Arterial Vessel Features of Female Patients with Stable Dermatomyositis and Antisynthetase Syndrome

Introduction: Dermatomyositis (Dm) and antisynthetase syndrome (ASS) show a high frequency of metabolic syndrome, which can be preceded by endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness. To date, only one study has evaluated these vessel parameters in Dm, and no study of ASS exists. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the structural and functional arterial of arterial vessels in Dm and ASS. methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 21 adult female patients (14 Dm and 7 ASS) who were age-, gender- and ethnicity-matched to 12 healthy individuals. Patients using lipid lowering agents or prednisone at doses ≥ 0.25 mg/kg/day, and patients with uncontrolled systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiac insufficiency, and disease activity were excluded. Arterial stiffness was evaluated using carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), and endothelial function was evaluated using dependent flow-mediated dilatation (FmD) of the brachial artery. Results: The mean age of patients with Dm or ASS were 45.4 ± 8.6 and 44.0 ± 6.1 years, respectively (P = 1.000), and patients were predominantly of white ethnicity. Six Dm patients and three ASS patients had systemic arterial hypertension, whereas 9 Dm patients and six ASS patients had dyslipidemia. Endothelial baseline diameter, hyperemia diameter and FmD values were similar among the three groups (P > 0.05). moreover, the median FmD values were also similar between the patients with Dm and patients with ASS [8.3% (4.5% - 10.9%) vs. 6.0% (−1.8% - 8.2%);P = 0.585]. The PWV values were comparable among the three groups (P = 0.253). In addition, no difference was observed between patients with Dm and patients with ASS (7.4 ± 0.8 m/s vs. 7.4 ± 0.9 m/s;P = 1.000). Conclusions: Despite the high prevalence of dyslipidemia and systemic arterial hypertension, our female patients with stable Dm and ASS had FmD and PWV values comparable to those of the control group.

Bone disorders in experimentally induced liver disease in growing rats

AIm: To investigate the change of bone parameters in a new model of experimentally induced liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in growing ***: Fischer-344 rats (n = 55) were used. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), phenobarbital (PB), and a single diethylnitrosamine (DEN) injection were used. Animals were killed at wk 8 and 16. Bone mineral content, femoral length, cortical index (quotient of cortical thickness and whole diameter) and ultimate bending load (Fmax)of the femora were determined. The results in animals treated with DEN+PB+CCl4 (DPC, n = 21) were compared to those in untreated animals (UNT,n = 14) and in control group treated only with DEN+PB (DP, n = 20).RESULTS: Fatty liver and cirrhosis developed in each DPC-treated rat at wk 8 and HCC was presented at wk 16. No skeletal changes were found in this group at wk 8,but each parameter was lower (P＜0.05 for each) at wk 16 in comparison to the control group. Neither fatty liver nor cirrhosis was observed in DP-treated animals at any time point. Femoral length and Fmax values were higher (P＜0.05 for both) in DP-treated animals at wk 8 compared to the UNT controls. However, no difference was found at wk ***: Experimental liver cirrhosis and HCC are accompanied with inhibited skeletal growth, reduced bone mass, and decreased mechanical resistance in growing rats. Our results are in concordance with the data of other studies using different animal models. A novel finding is the transiently accelerated skeletal growth and bone strength after a 8-wk long phenobarbital treatment following diethylnitrosamine injection.

The Impact of Sociodemographic and Health Variables on Self-Care of Subjects Receiving Hemotransfusion

This study analyzed the relationship between self-care in subjects who received a blood transfusion in a university hospital with their sociodemographic and health conditions. A descriptive and exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out in the Transfusion Ambulatory sector of the University Hospital in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro from July to November of 2014 with a sample size of 12 patients. Data were collected through a questionnaire of semi-structured questions;content analysis was based on the thematic approach. Sociodemographic data from subjects who received a blood transfusion were evaluated with respect to the education they received regarding self-care at home as well as their emotional balance in facing the health-disease process and their perspective on their quality of life. Educating subjects who receive blood transfusions requires that the medical professionals have an understanding of their patient’s socioeconomic and cultural condition. This information will contribute to a better understanding of self-care when blood transfusion is necessary.

Involvement of serum retinoids and Leiden mutation in patients with esophageal, gastric, liver, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers in Hungary

AIm: To analyze the serum levels of retinoids and Leiden mutation in patients with esophageal, gastric, liver,pancreatic, and colorectal ***: The changes in serum levels of retinoids (vitamin A, α- and β-carotene, α- and β-cryptoxanthin,zeaxanthin, lutein) and Leiden mutation were measured by high liquid performance chromatography (HPLC)and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 107 patients (70 males/37 females) with esophageal (0/8), gastric (16/5), liver (8/7), pancreatic (6/4), and colorectal (30/21including 9 patients suffering from in situ colon cancer)cancer. Fifty-seven healthy subjects (in matched groups)for controls of serum retinoids and 600 healthy blood donors for Leiden mutation were ***: The serum levels of vitamin A and zeaxanthin were decreased significantly in all groups of patients with gastrointestinal (GI) tumors except for vitamin A in patients with pancreatic cancer. No changes were obtained in the serum levels of α- and β-carotene,α- and β-cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin, lutein in patients with GI cancer. The prevalence of Leiden mutation significantly increased in all groups of patients with GI ***: Retinoids (as environmental factors)are decreased significantly with increased prevalence of Leiden mutation (as a genetic factor) in patients before the clinical manifestation of histologically different (planocellular and hepatocellular carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma) GI cancer.

本文是意大利西西里地区濒危物种地中海隼(Falco biarmicusfeldeggii Schlegel)污染物危险因素评估研究之一,着重探讨了有机氯(OC)杀虫剂和多氯联苯(PCBs)对濒危地中海隼种群的污染风险。选取西西里北部和中部的17个地中海隼巢址,在2005年测定了地中海隼雏鸟(6个巢址中的15只雏鸟)血液与其2种主要猎物喜鹊(Pica pica)(6个地中海隼巢址的36个样本)和原鸽(Columba livia)(2个地中海隼巢址上的10个样本)体内是否含有OC杀虫剂和PCB类化合物残留。除同源物PCB153((21.8ng/g湿重)外,地中海隼雏鸟血液中的OC和PCB残留低于检出限,这表明在本研究地区这些污染物对地中海隼雏鸟无显著危害。喜鹊和原鸽几乎不受OC杀虫剂的污染,尽管实验结果表明喜鹊体内的污染物水平显著高于原鸽。在大约8%的喜鹊样本中DDE和HEOD值有异常,其中一个喜鹊样本显示新近受到DDT的污染,这可能说明一些地中海隼受到局部OC杀虫剂的污染。本研究工作还有待进一步开展。
