The presence of heavy metals such as arsenic(As)and chromium(Cr)can be considered one of the most toxic heavy *** study aims to develop and evaluate a graphene oxide(GO)based material functionalized with ferrihydrite for the removal of As(V)in the presence of Cr(VI).The adsorbent ferrihydrite-functionalized graphene oxide(GOFH)was characterized by SEm,FTIR,XRD,XPS,surface charge,BET and *** adsorption capacities for As(V)and Cr(VI)were 160 and 66 mg g^(-1)respectively at pH 4 and 298 K,fitting the Langmuir *** binary systems,GOFH adsorbed As(V)with an adsorption capacity of 137 mg g^(-1)in the presence of 20 mg L^(-1)Cr(VI)at room *** analysis revealed an exothermic and spontaneous ***,GOFH effectively removed several coexisting anions from groundwater,including SO_(4)^(2-),CO_(3)^(2-)and Cl^(-).This work evidences the potential of GOFH for competitive adsorption of priority pollutants from complex *** GOFH material represents a technically and economically viable technology for application in groundwater decontamination,as it requires inexpensive precursors and ambient conditions during synthesis and operation.

BACKGROUnD The association between the intestinal microbiota and psychiatric disorders is becoming increasingly *** gut microbiota contributes to colorectal carcinogenesis(CRC),as demonstrated with colibactin-producing Escherichia coli(CoPEC).AIm To evaluate the association between CoPEC prevalence and anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors with both preclinical and clinical *** Patients followed after a CRC surgery and for whom the prevalence of CoPEC has been investigated underwent a psychiatric *** were compared according to the CoPEC *** parallel C57BL6/J wild type mice and mice with a CRC susceptibility were chronically infected with a CoPEC *** behavior was assessed using the Elevated Plus maze test,the Forced Swimming Test and the Behavior recognition system PhenoTyper®.RESULTS In a limited cohort,all patients with CoPEC colonization presented with psychiatric disorders several years before cancer diagnosis,whereas only one patient(17%)without CoPEC *** result was confirmed in C57BL6/J wildtype mice and in a CRC susceptibility mouse model(adenomatous polyposis colimultiple intestinal neoplasia/+).mice exhibited a significant increase in anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors after chronic infection with a CoPEC *** This finding provides the first evidence that CoPEC infection can induce microbiota-gut-brain axis disturbances in addition to its procarcinogenic properties.

Phytochrome A （phyA） is the dominant photoreceptor of far-red light sensing in Arabidopsis thaliana, phyA accumulates at high levels in the cytoplasm of etiolated seedlings, and light-induced phyA signaling is mediated by a com- plex regulatory network. This includes light- and FHY1/FHL protein-dependent translocation of native phyA into the nucleus in vivo. It has also been shown that a short n-terminal fragment of phyA （PHYA406） is sufficient to phenocopy this highly regulated cellular process in vitro. To test the biological activity of this n-terminal fragment of phyA in planta, we produced transgenic phyA-201 plants expressing the PHYA406-YFP （YELLOW FLUORESCEnT PROTEIn）-DD, PHYA406- YFP-DD-nLS （nuclear localization signal）, and PHYA406-YFP-DD-nES （nuclear export signal） fusion proteins. Here, we report that PHYA406-YFP-DD is imported into the nucleus and this process is partially light-dependent whereas PHYA406-YFP-DD-nLS and PHYA406-YFP-DD-nES display the expected constitutive localization patterns. Our results show that these truncated phyA proteins are light-stable, they trigger a constitutive photomorphogenic-like response when localized in the nuclei, and neither of them induces proper phyA signaling. We demonstrate that in vitro and in vivo PHYA406 Pfr and Pr bind COP1, a general repressor of photomorphogenesis, and co-localize with it in nuclear bodies. Thus, we conclude that, in planta, the truncated PHYA406 proteins inactivate COP1 in the nuclei in a light-independent fashion.

Structural and molecular features of intestinal strictures in rats with Crohn's-like disease

AIm: To develop a new rat model we wanted to gain a better understanding of stricture formation in Crohn’s disease (CD).mETHODS: Chronic colitis was induced locally by the administration of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TnBS). The relapsing inflammation characteristic to CD was mimicked by repeated TnBS treatments. Animals were randomly divided into control, once, twice and three times TnBS-treated groups. Control animals received an enema of saline. Tissue samples were taken from the strictured colonic segments and also adjacent proximally and distally to its 60, 90 or 120 d after the last TnBS or saline administrations. The frequency and macroscopic extent of the strictures were measured on digital photographs. The structural features of strictured gut wall were studied by light- and electron microscopy. Inflammation related alterations in TGF-beta 2 and 3, matrix metalloproteinases 9 (mmP9) and TImP1 mRnA and protein expression were determined by quantitative real-time PCR and western blot analysis. The quantitative distribution of caspase 9 was determined by post-embedding ***: Intestinal strictures first appeared 60 d after TnBS treatments and the frequency of them increased up to day 120. From day 90 an intact lamina epithelialis, reversible thickening of lamina muscularis mucosae and irreversible thickening of the muscularis externa were demonstrated in the strictured colonic segments. nevertheless the morphological signs of apoptosis were frequently seen and excess extracellular matrix deposition was recorded between smooth muscle cells (SmCs). Enhanced caspase 9 expression on day 90 in the SmCs and on day 120 also in myenteric neurons indicated the induction of apoptosis. The mRnA expression profile of TGF-betas after repeated TnBS doses was characteristic to CD, TGF-beta 2, but not TGF-beta 3 was up-regulated. Background:Skeletal muscle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,many studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we examined the associations of accelerometry-measured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(SB)with skeletal muscle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with muscle ***:As part of the Study of muscle,mobility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,mean±SD;58%women)had maximal muscle oxidative capacity measured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirometry of permeabilized myofibers(maximal oxidative phosphorylation(maxOXPHOS))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy(maximal adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(max))).Accelerometry-measured sedentary behavior,light activity,and moderate-to-vigorous PA(mVPA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,mVPA,and all PA were assessed with the Community Healthy Activities model Program for Seniors(CHAmPS)*** regression models with progressive covariate adjustments evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with muscle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/muscle energetics association by mVP A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also examined activPAL-measured daily step count and time spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with muscle ***:Every 30 min/day more of ActiGraph-measured mVPA was associated with 0.65 pmol/(s×mg)higher maxOXPHOS and 0.012 mm/s higher ATP_(max)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pnot associated with maxOXPHOS or ATP_(max).meanwhile,every 30 min/day spent in ActiGraph-measured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pmol/s×mg lower maxOXPHOS and0.

The Application of Joint Inversion in Geophysical Exploration

The paper presents a short overview about the application of joint inversion in geophysics. It gives also an alternative explanation for the term of “different data sets” and discusses what types of inversion procedures can be considered as joint inversion. nowadays there are no standard standpoints using the appellation joint inversion. What is joint inversion? Based on the information matrix an answer could be given for this question what could be regarded as various types of data sets that are inverted simultaneously. We would like to expand the explanation—that is professed by many researchers—of the method that regards only the simultaneous inversion of data sets based on different physical parameters as joint inversion.

Pregnancy and child developmental outcomes after preimplantation genetic screening: a meta-analytic and systematic review

Background In in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, preimplantation genetic diagnosis/screening (PGD/S) attempts to detect chromosomal abnormalities in embryos before implantation. Using the meta-analytic and qualitative review approaches, this study aims to evaluate the effect of PGD/S on clinical pregnancy, live births, and childhood outcomes. methods We conducted a literature search using 1) Pubmed and other search engines, and 2) an ancestry search by track-ing references cited in prior work. After screening the studies, we extracted information pertinent to the meta-analysis. We calculated the effect sizes for clinical pregnancy and live birth rates, and performed a moderation analysis by maternal age, type of genetic screening, and timing of the biopsy. For childhood outcomes, we conducted a systematic review of studies reporting the anthropometric, psychomotor, cognitive, behavioral, and family functioning of PGD/S children. Results We included 26 studies for clinical pregnancy and live births, and 18 studies for childhood outcomes. Results indi-cated that women who underwent comprehensive chromosome screening-based PGD/S had significantly higher clinical pregnancy rates (rr 1.207, 95% CI 1.017–1.431) and live birth rates (rr 1.362, 95% CI 1.057–1.755) than those whose IVF treatment did not include PGD/S. Early childhood outcomes of PGD/S children did not differ from those of non-PGD/S children. Conclusions Comprehensive chromosome screening-based PGD/S can improve clinical pregnancy and live birth rates without adversely affecting functioning in childhood at least up to age 9. Results are discussed in the context of bioethical, financial, legal, and psychological issues surrounding PGD/S.
