The parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in the negative half-cell of vanadium redox flow batteries(VRFBs)causes severe efficiency ***,a deeper understanding of this process and the accompanying bubble formation is *** benchmarking study locally analyzes the bubble distribution in thick,porous electrodes for the first time using deep learning-based image segmentation of synchrotron X-ray *** large three-dimensional data set was processed precisely in less than one minute while minimizing human errors and pointing out areas of increased HER activity in *** study systematically varies the electrode potential and material,concluding that more negative electrode potentials of-200 m V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE)and lower cause more substantial bubble formation,resulting in bubble fractions of around 15%–20%in carbon felt ***,the bubble fractions stay only around 2%in an electrode combining carbon felt and carbon *** detected areas with high HER activity,such as the border subregion with more than 30%bubble fraction in carbon felt electrodes,the cutting edges,and preferential spots in the electrode bulk,are potential-independent and suggest that larger electrodes with a higher bulk-to-border ratio might reduce HER-related performance *** described combination of electrochemical measurements,local X-ray microtomography,AI-based segmentation,and 3D morphometric analysis is a powerful and novel approach for local bubble analysis in three-dimensional porous electrodes,providing an essential toolkit for a broad community working on bubble-generating electrochemical systems.

Evaluation of Anthropogenic Air Emissions from marine Engines in a Coastal Urban Airshed of Texas

Corpus Christi, Texas, is a growing urban area with a busy port and a petrochemical industrial base that is currently in compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for ozone. However, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has classified this urban airshed as a near non-attainment area. A comprehensive annual air emission inventory based on marine engines activity was developed for the years of 2006-2009 for the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas using recent EPA approved methodology. A regional-scale photochemical model Comprehensive Air modeling system with extensions (CAmx) was used to evaluate the impact of these emissions on the ground level ozone concentrations by zeroing out the emissions and employing Direct Decoupled method (DDm) for sensitivity analysis to estimate the 8-hour ozone sensitivity coefficients due to NOx and VOC emissions from marine engines. The analysis has shown a localized increase of up to 7.8 ppb in the 8-hour ozone concentration very close to the port premises and a decrease of about 1.73 ppb further downwind. Ozone sensitivity analysis using DDm on the 8-hour ozone concentrations showed a higher sensitivity to NOx emissions. Thus, any NOx related controls of marine engines will benefit local urban and regional ozone levels.

The novel coronavirus responsible for COVID-19 has spread to several countries within a considerably short *** virus gets deposited in the human nasal cavity and moves to the lungs that might be *** per safety guidelines by theWorld Health Organization(WHO),social distancing has emerged as one of the major factors to avoid the spread of ***,different guidelines are being followed across the countries with regards to what should be the safe ***,the current work is an attempt to understand the virus deposition pattern in the realistic human nasal cavity and also to find the impact of distance that could be termed as a safety *** study is performed usingComputationalFluid Dynamics as a solution tool to investigate the impact of COVID-19 deposition(i)On a realistic 3D human upper airway model and(ii)2D social distancing protocol for a distance of 0.6,1.2,1.8,and 2.4 *** results revealed that the regional deposition flux within the nasal cavity was predominantly observed in the external nasal cavity and nasopharyngeal *** flushing of these regions with saltwater substitutes can limit contamination in healthy *** safe distancing limit estimated with 1 m/s airflow was about 1.8 *** extensive deposition was observed for distances less than 1.8 m in this study,emphasizing the fact that social distancing advisories are not useful and do not take into account the external dynamics associated with airflow.

fmRI （Functional magnetic Resonance Imaging） is a relatively new technique that uses mRI （magnetic Resonance Imaging） to measure the hemodynamic response （change in blood flow） related to neural activity in the brain. This paper aims to explore and identify the obstacles facing the implementation and applications of ImRI in radiology departments within Jeddah city by analyzing related data received by direct questionnaires and interviews with all the people working in mRI units in Jeddah city and finds that the major obstacle is lacking of awareness of fmRI among medical professionals and their training.

Peculiarities of Structural Transformations in HAZ metal of Rail Steel m76 Joint Produced by Flash-Butt Welding

The railway transport is one of the main types of communications in the world. Analysis of service conditions of the most critical elements of the railway transport rolling stock （mils, wheels and tyres） shows that one of the main factors determining their reliability and service life is the structural-phase state of steel, which is formed in the process of its producing. Complication of service conditions leads to the more severe requirements, specified by the consumers, where the high level of strength and hardness should be combined with high values of ductility and toughness. Realization of these requirements is possible only at the integrated approach to the improvement of technology of their production on the basis of profound knowledge in kinetics of austenite decay processes of structure formation and its contribution to the mechanical properties. With the formation of mainly bainite-martensite structures in the HAZ （heat-affected zone） metal of welded joints of these steels and saturation of this region with diffusive hydrogen their susceptibility to the cold cracking is increased. In this connection this work presents the results of investigations of effect of the WTC （welding thermal cycles） on the nature of structural transformations, hardness, static strength and resistance to the formation of cold cracks in HAZ metal of high-strength carbon rail steel m76. For this purpose, the structure and kinetics of transformation of an overcooled austenite was studied using the advanced methods of physical materials science by the modeling of phase transformations in the Gleeble 3800 unit. It was found that the cause of reduction in mechanical properties of welded joints of steel m76 is the formation of regions with a completely martensite structure in the amount of up to 5%. Results of investigations will be applied for the optimizing the technology and conditions of FBW of the advanced rail steels. 10 Ref., 4 Tables, 11 Figures.
