One of the clear signals of the ongoing climate change is sea level rise (sLR). Normal oceanic tides superimposed on a rising sea level and coastal flooding will affect many coastal communities. An international collaboration among brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United states was designed to evaluate local decision making processes and to open space for local urban managers to reflect on possible actions toward adaption to sea level rise given the historical constraints imposed by administrative and institutional structures. This project focused on the processes that shape adaptation of three coastal communities in three countries. It worked jointly with these communities in defining the problem, examining risks, and understanding the benefits and obstacles that may hinder implementation of adaptation options. The framework was co-designed by an interdisciplinary team that incorporated social and natural scientists from the three countries, including local government officials. The study addressed 1) evaluation of adaptive capacity through participant surveys and 2) physical and cost impact simulations using geospatial models of the built infrastructure and implementation of adaptation options under different hazard scenarios, including 50 and 100-year sea level rise projections and severe storms. based on the surveys’ results, there is a clear sense of the awareness of each community of the risk of floods due to intense storms, and of the usefulness of engaging early in a process that promotes the understanding of risks, impacts, and costs. A majority of workshop participants prioritized pursuing physical and green infrastructure actions now or within coming years or decades. A positive common aspect of the three sites was the commitment shown by the stakeholders in taking part in the process and evaluating which adaptation measures could be more effective in their cities. High-throughput computational discovery of In_(2)mn_(2)O_(7) as a high Curie temperature ferromagnetic semiconductor for spintronics

materials combining strong ferromagnetism and good semiconducting properties are highly desirable for spintronic applications(e.g.,in spin-filtering devices).In this work,we conduct a search for concentrated ferromagnetic semiconductors through highthroughput computational *** screening reveals the limited availability of semiconductors combining ferromagnetism and a low effective *** identify the manganese pyrochlore oxide In_(2)mn_(2)O_(7) as especially promising for spin transport as it combines low electron effective mass(0.29m0),a large exchange splitting of the conduction band(1.1 eV),stability in air,and a Curie temperature(about 130 K)among the highest of concentrated ferromagnetic *** rationalise the high performance of In_(2)mn_(2)O_(7) by the unique combination of a pyrochlore lattice favouring ferromagnetism with an adequate alignment of O–2p,mn–3d,and In–5s forming a dispersive conduction band while enhancing the Curie temperature.

A Light-Independent Allele of Phytochrome b Faithfully Recapitulates Photomorphogenic Transcriptional Networks

Dominant gain-of-function alleles of Arabidopsis phytochrome b were recently shown to confer lightindependent, constitutive photomorphogenic （cop） phenotypes to transgenic plants （su and Lagarias, 2007）. In the present study, comparative transcription profiling experiments were performed to assess whether the pattern of gene expression regulated by these alleles accurately reflects the process of photomorphogenesis in wild-type Arabidopsis. Whole- genome transcription profiles of dark-grown phyAphyb seedlings expressing the Y^276H mutant of phyb （YHb） revealed that YHb reprograms about 13% of the Arabidopsis transcriptome in a light-independent manner. The YHb-regulated transcriptome proved qualitatively similar to but quantitatively greater than those of wild-type seedlings grown under 15 or 50 μmol m^-2 m^-1 continuous red light （rc）. Among the 2977 genes statistically significant two-fold （ssTF） regulated by YHb in the absence of light include those encoding components of the photosynthetic apparatus, tetrapyrrole/pigment biosynthetic pathways, and early light-responsive signaling factors. Approximately 80% of genes ssTF regulated by rc were also YHb-regulated. Expression of a notable subset of 346 YHb-regulated genes proved to be strongly attenuated by rc, indicating compensating regulation by phyC-E and/or other rc-dependent processes. since the majority of these 346 genes are regulated by the circadian clock, these results suggest that phyA- and phyb-independent light signaling pathway（s） strongly influence clock output. Together with the unique plastid morphology of dark-grown YHb seedlings, these analyses indicate that the YHb mutant induces constitutive photomorphogenesis via faithful reconstruction of phyb signaling pathways in a light-independent fashion.

Development of synthetic bone substitutes has arisen as a major research interest in the need to find an alternative to autologous bone *** an ovine model,the present pre-clinical study presents a synthetic bone graft(bonelikeVR)in combination with a cellular system as an alternative for the regeneration of non-critical *** association of biomaterials and cell-based therapies is a promising strategy for bone tissue *** stem cells(msCs)from human dental pulp have demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo to interact with diverse biomaterial systems and promote mineral deposition,aiming at the reconstruction of osseous ***,these cells can be found and isolated from many ***-critical bone defects were treated with bonelikeVR with or without msCs obtained from the human dental *** showed that bonelikeVR and msCs treated defects showed improved bone regeneration compared with the defects treated with bonelikeVR ***,it was observed that the biomaterial matrix was reabsorbed and gradually replaced by new bone during the healing *** therefore propose this combination as an efficient binomial strategy that promotes bone growth and vascularization in non-critical bone defects.
