Firmness is one of the most important fruit quality traits in *** postharvest shelf life of this soft fruit is highly limited by the loss of firmness,where cell wall disassembly plays an important *** studies demonstrated that the polygalacturonase FaPG1 has a key role in remodelling pectins during strawberry *** this study,FaPG1 knockout strawberry plants have been generated using the CrISPr/Cas9 system delivered via Agrobacterium *** independent lines,cv.“Chandler”,were obtained,and all of them were successfully edited as determined by PCr amplification and T7 endonuclease *** targeted mutagenesis insertion and deletion rates were analyzed using targeted deep *** percentage of edited sequences varied from 47%up to almost 100%,being higher than 95%for seven of the selected *** analyses showed that 7 out of the eight lines analyzed produced fruits significantly firm.r than the control,ranging from 33 to 70%increase in *** was a positive relationship between the degree of FaPG1 editing and the rise in fruit *** changes were observed in other fruit quality traits,such as colour,soluble solids,titratable acidity or anthocyanin *** fruits showed a reduced softening rate during postharvest,displayed a reduced transpirational water loss,and were less damaged by Botrytis cinerea *** analysis of four potential off-target sites revealed no mutation *** conclusion,editing the FaPG1 gene using the CrISPr/Cas9 system is an efficient method for im.roving strawberry fruit firmness and shelf life.

Typhoon monitoring utilizing reflected GNSS signals is a new application of GNSS-r technique. Coastal observations are an efficient way for the model of geophysical parameters retrieval in Typhoon and identified as a promising complementary technique with respect to the satellite instruments. However, the relationship between GNSS-r observables and the sea surface wind speed in Typhoon could not be fully described through theoretical models for the coastal regions. meanwhile the instability of the coastal GNSS-r geometry makes it difficult to optimize an empirically calibrated model. The BeiDou GEO satellites could provide stable geometry and better coverage capability in mid- and low-latitude region where most of the typhoons occur. Based on this consideration, ocean reflected signals from BeiDou GEO satellites are exploited for coastal Typhoon observation in this paper. The relationship between reflected waveform parameters, such as coherent time, and the ocean geophysics parameters, such as wind speed is analysed. Preliminary analysis of the BeiDou reflected signal collected during the TIGrIS experiment shows good agreement between the GNSS-r measured wind speeds and the in-situ measurements, the average deviation is 1.6 m/s with the root-mean-square error of 2.4 m/s.

OBJECTIVE To assess the role of beta-blockers(BB)in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)aged≥75 *** AND rESULTS From January 2008 to July 2014,we included 390 consecutive patients≥75 years of age with ejection fraction≤35%and glom.rular filtration rate(GFr)≤60 m L/min per 1.73 m^*** analyzed the relationship between treatment with BB and m.rtality or cardiovascular *** mean age of our population was 82.6±4.1 *** ejection fraction was 27.9%±6.5%.GFr was 60-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 50.3%of patients,45-30 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 37.4%,andm L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 12.3%.At the conclusion of follow-up,67.4%of patients were receiving *** median follow-up was28.04(Ir:19.41-36.67)*** the study period,211 patients(54.1%)died and 257(65.9%)had a major cardiovascular event(death or hospitalization for heart failure).BB use was significantly associated with a reduced risk of death(Hr=0.51,95%CI:0.35-0.74;Preceiving BB consistently showed a reduced risk of death across the different stages of CKD:stage IIIa(GFr=30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;Hr=0.47,95%CI:0.26-0.86,Pr 30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;Hr=0.55,95%CI:0.26-1.06,P=0.007),and stages IV and V(GFrm L/min per 1.73 m~2;Hr=0.29,95%CI:0.11-0.76;P=0.047).CONCluSIONS The use of BB in elderly patients with HFr EF and renal impairment was associated with a better *** of BB should be encouraged when possible.

Chamomile (m>matricaria recutita Lm>) and Chrysanthemum (m>Chrysanthemum coronarium L. m>(Garland)) are plants belonging to the family m>Asteraceaem>. The pharmacological properties of these herbs result from interactions among their many components. Of these, over 120 secondary metabolites with pharmacological and/or potential pesticide activity have been identified. The diverse chemical and biological characteristics of this set of compounds, m>i.e.m>, essential oils and organic extracts of genera m>matricariam> and m>Chrysanthemumm>, have been shown to have particular pesticidal effects, especially those rich in pyrethroids. This work characterizes chamomile and chrysanthemum extracts for their pesticidal properties and their effects following acute exposure in rats. results show hepatotoxic and oxidative stress-inducing effects in the livers of rats exposed tom> C. coronariumm> extracts, but not those of m>m. recutitam>.

Analytic compartmental models are currently used in mathematical epidemiology to forecast the COVID-19 pandemic evolution and explore the impact of mitigation *** general,such models treat the population as a single entity,losing the social,cultural and economical *** present a network model that uses socio-demographic datasets with the highest available granularity to predict the spread of COVID-19 in the province of *** model is flexible enough to incorporate the effect of containment policies,such as lockdowns or the use of protective masks,and can be easily adapted to future *** follow a stochastic approach that combines a compartmental model with detailed individual microdata from the population census,including social determinants and age-dependent strata,and time-dependent mobility *** show that our model reproduces the dynamical features of the disease across two waves and demonstrates its capability to become a powerful tool for simulating epidemic events.

Bottled water consumption is increasing worldwide, despite its huge economic and environmental cost. We aim to describe personal and tap water quality determinants of bottled water use in the city of Barcelona. This cross-sectional study used data from the Health Survey of Barcelona in 2006（N = 5417 adults）. The use of bottled water to drink and to cook was evaluated in relation to age, gender, educational level, district and levels of trihalomethanes（THms）, free chlorine, conductivity, chloride, sodium, p H, nitrate and aluminium in municipal tap water using robust Poisson regression. The prevalence of bottled water use to drink and cook was 53.9% and 6.7%, respectively. Chemical parameters in water had a large variability（interquartile range of THms concentrations： 83.2–200.8 μg/L）and were correlated between them, except aluminium. Drinking bottled water increased with educational level, while cooking with bottled water was higher among men than among women and decreased with age. After adjusting by these personal determinants, a dose–response relationship was found between concentrations of all chemicals except aluminium in tap water and bottled water use. The highest association was found for THms,with a Prevalence ratio of 2.00（95%CI = 1.86, 2.15） for drinking bottled water and 2.80（95%CI = 1.72, 4.58） for cooking with bottled water, among those with 〉 150 μg/L vs. 〈 100 μg/L THms in tap water. Conclusion： m.re than half of Barcelona residents regularly drank bottled water, and the main determinant was the chemical composition of tap water,particularly THm level.

AIm: To investigate the clinical impact of capsule endoscopy(CE) after an obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(OGIB) episode, focusing on diagnostic work-up, followup and predictive factors of rebleeding. mETHODS: Patients who were referred to Hospital del m.r(Barcelona, Spain) between 2007 and 2009 for OGIB who underwent a CE were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic data, current treatment with non-steroid antiinflammtory drugs or anticoagulant drugs, hemoglobin levels, transfusion requirements, previous diagnostic tests for the bleeding episode, as well as CE findings(significant or non-significant), work-up and patient out-comes were analyzed from electronic charts. Variables were compared by χ 2 analysis and Student t test. risk factors of rebleeding were assessed by Log-rank test, Kaplan-meier curves and Cox regression model. rESULTS: There were 105 patients [45.7% women, median age of 72 years old(interquartile range 56-79)] and a median follow-up of 326 d(interquartile range 123-641) included in this study. The overall diagnostic yield of CE was 58.1%(55.2% and 63.2%, for patients with occult OGIB and overt OGIB, respectively). In 73 patients(69.5%), OGIB was resolved. multivariate analysis showed that hemoglobin levels lower than 8 g/dL at diagnosis [hazard ratios(Hr) = 2.7, 95%CI: 1.9-6.3], patients aged 70 years and above(Hr = 2.1, 95%CI: 1.2-6.1) and significant findings in CE(Hr = 2.4, 95%CI: 1.1-5.8) were independent predictors of rebleeding. CONCluSION: One third of the patients presented with rebleeding after CE; risk factors were hemoglobin levels rs or the presence of significant lesions.
