Getting physical with medical education:Exercise based virtual anatomy review classes for medical students

The benefits of regular physical activity are well ***,few studies have examined the effectiveness of integrating physical activity(PA)into curricula within a post-secondary *** investigate the incorporation of PA into medical curriculum,we developed a series of optional exercise-based review sessions designed to reinforce musculoskeletal(mSK)anatomy course *** synchronous sessions were co-taught by a group fitness instructor and an anatomy *** fitness instructor would lead students through both strength and yoga style exercises,while the anatomy instructor asked questions about relevant anatomical structures related to course material previously *** the sessions,participants were asked to evaluate the classes on their self-reported exam preparedness in im.roving mSK anatomy knowledge,PA levels,and mental *** participants completed surveys;a majority agreed that the classes increased understanding of mSK concepts(90.0%)and activity levels(97.7%).many(70.0%)felt that the classes helped reduce *** majority of respondents(90.0%)agreed that the classes contributed to increased feelings of social ***,medical students saw benefit in PA based interventions to supplement mSK course *** with increasing activity levels and promoting health behaviours,integrating PA into medical curriculum may im.rove com.rehension of learning material,alleviate stress and foster social connectivity among medical students.

Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decom.ression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.

There is a strong evidence supporting the hypothesis of synaptic dysfunction as a major contributor to neural circuit and network disruption underlying emotional and mood dysregulation in psychiatric disorders(Simmons et al.,2024).Diverse sets of distinct molecular signaling pathways converge on the synapse to regulate synaptogenesis,synaptic function,and synaptic plasticity in brain regions and circuits through complex interactions organized by num.rous multivalent protein scaffolds,including the family of proteins known as A-kinase anchoring proteins(AKAPs).

Oxidation of glycerol with H_2O_2 on Pb-promoted Pd/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts

A series of bimetallic Pd-Pb catalysts with a constant Pd content of 1 wt%and Pb/Pd atomic ratio from 0 to 1.6 supported on γ-Al2O3 were prepared and used for glycerol oxidation with H2O2 as the oxidizing agent at atmospheric pressure,45℃ and pH =*** m.rphology and dispersion of the catalysts were characterized by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy（SEm-EDX） and transmission electron microscopy（TEm）.The presence of an alloy phase in the bimetallic catalyst was detected by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）.Glycerol conversion obtained with the monometallic Pd catalyst was 19%,which was increased to 100%with the addition of *** four bimetallic PdPb catalysts were able to oxidize glycerol to dihydroxyacetone（DIHA） and the selectivity to DIHA reached 59%,58%,34%and 25%for PdPb0.25,PdPb0.50,PdPb1.00 and PdPbl.60 catalysts,respectively.

Experimental Investigation of micro Heat Pipes of Different Cross-Sections Having Same Hydraulic Diameter

Effects of micro heat pipe （mHP） cross-sections and orientations on its thermal performance are experimentally investigated in this study. Tests are conducted using five different cross-sections （circular, semicircular, elliptical, semi-elliptical and rectangular） of micro heat pipes having same hydraulic diameter of 3 rnm placed at three different inclination angles （0°, 45°, 90°）, where water is used as the working fluid. Evaporator section of the mHP is heated by an electric heater and the condenser section is cooled by circulation of water in an annular space between condenser section and the water jacket. Temperatures at different locations of the mHP are measured using five calibrated K type thermocouples. Heat supply is varied using a voltage regulator which is measured by a precision ammeter and a voltmeter. It is found that thermal performance tends to deteriorate as the mHP is flattened. Thus among all cross-sections of mHP, circular one exhibits the best thermal performance in terms of heat flux dissipation followed by semi-elliptical, semi-circular, elliptical and rectangular cross-sections. m.reover, its heat transfer capability also decreases with decreasing of its inclination angle. Finally, a correlation is developed which covers all the experimental data within ＋7%.

DNS in evolution of vorticity and sign relationship in wake transition of a circular cylinder:(pure)mode A

In the present paper,the spatio-temporal evolution of vorticity in the first wake instability,i.e.,(pure)mode A,is investigated in order to understand the wake vortex dynamics and sign relationships among vorticity *** num.rical simulation(DNS)for the flow past a circular cylinder is performed,typically at a reynolds number of 200,in the three-dimensional(3-D)wake *** to characteristics of time histories of fluid forces,three different stages are identified as the computational transition,the initial stage and fully developed *** the second initial stage,the original two-dimensional spanwise vortices become obviously three-dimensional associated with the streamwise or vertical vorticity intensified up to about *** a matter of fact,these additional vorticities,caused by the intrinsic 3-D instability,are already generated firstly on cylinder surfaces early in the computational transition,indicating that the three-dimensionality appeared early near the *** evolution of additional components of vorticity with features the same as mode A shows that(pure)mode A can be already formed in the late computational *** careful analysis of the vorticity field on the front surface,in the shear layers and near wake at typical times,two sign laws are *** illustrate intrinsic relationships among three vorticity components,irrelevant to the wavelength or Fourier mode and reynolds number in(pure)mode *** importantly,the origin of streamwise vortices is found and explained by a new physical mechanism based on the theory of vortex-induced *** a result,the whole process of formation and shedding vortices with these vorticities is firstly and completely *** characteristics are presented in detail.

Toward an understanding of dwell fatigue damage mechanism of bimodal Ti-6Al-4V alloys

Dwell fatigue effect is a long-standing problem threatening the long-term service reliability for fan blades and fan disks of an aircraft *** understand the basic mechanism of dwell fatigue damage,pure fatigue and 60 s dwell fatigue properties of bimodal Ti-6Al-4V alloys with different volume fractions of the prim.ryα(α_(p))phase were examined *** results showed that both pure fatigue and dwell fatigue life decreased with increasing the volume fraction of theα_(p)phase and the dwell fatigue life was lower than the pure fatigue *** quasi-in-situ test results and the quantitative characterization of damage behaviors of the local microstructure units defined by theα_(p)-secondaryα(α_(s))combination reveal that theα_(s)phase close to theα_(p)phase with extensively slip activities was gradually damaged under dwell fatigue loading,while that under pure fatigue loading was undamaged,demonstrating that the dwell loading induced the damage of theα_(s)phase,and further reduced the fatigue life.A stress relaxation-based model is proposed to describe the physical mechanism on dwell fatigue damage of the bimodal Ti-6Al-4V alloy,*** elastic deformation of theα_(s)phase caused by the strain incompatibility would be gradually transformed into plastic deformation during the dwell stage,and thus promotes fatigue *** model provides new insights into the microscopic process of stress/strain transfer between the soft and hard microstructure units under dwell fatigue loading.

Crystal Growth of[Ca3Al(OH)6·12H2O]2·(SO4)3·2H2O (Ettringite) Studied Under microgravity Conditions

On parabolic flights,the growth of ettringite,[Ca3Al(OH)6·12H2O]2·(SO4)3·2H2O,a major reaction product of cement with water which forms instantaneously,was crystallized under microgravity conditions and *** the experiments,Ca(OH)2/Al2(SO4)3 solutions were combined and reacted for 10?s,followed by immediate filtration of the suspension and subsequent quenching with *** the ettringite crystals,the size,aspect ratios,quantity and m.rphology were determined and the results were compared with those from identical experiments performed under terrestric *** microgravity,generally smaller crystals (l-2.9 μm) precipitated in larger amount than under normal gravity (l-3.5 μm).The aspect ratios of the crystals grown under terrestric or microgravity condition were comparable at about *** is assumed that the reason for the smaller ettringite crystals is the absence of convection leading to m.re initial nuclei,but slower crystal growth which is diffusion ***,no preference relative to the ion transport to the different faces of the crystals *** results contribute to the understanding of the mineralization of inorganic salts under microgravity conditions for which hitherto only a handful of examples were reported.

Isla San Pedro Nolasco(ISPN)is a structural high bounded by inactive dextral oblique-slip faults in the east-central part of the Gulf of California rift zone and is composed of intrusive rocks not exposed on other Gulf of California *** we present the reconnaissance results from geological mapping,as well as first geochemical and geochronological data for the ISPN intrusive *** intrusive rocks compose a sheet-like body of intermediate and felsic composition intruded by an intermediate and acidic dike *** intrusive rocks(host and dikes)range in age from ca.9 ma to 10 ma(^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar)and show a hydrous ferromagnesian mineral association(amphibole and biotite)with a calc-alkalic and transitional *** hydrated mineralogical association has not been recognized in the coeval rocks along the onshore western m.rgin of the North Am.rican plate(coastal Sonora).However,such hydrous mineralogical association is found in the coeval rift transitional volcanic rocks from the Baja California microplate at Santa rosalía and Bahía de losÁngeles–Bahía de lasÁ*** ISPN continental block,at least 40 km long,has been pulled apart by transtensional faulting of the late miocene Gulf of California shear zone before the westward migration of the North Am.rica-Pacific plate boundary at ca.3–2 ***,ISPN became isolated as an island during the late miocene flooding of the Gulf of California seaway.

Prediction of strength and deformability of an interlocked blocky rock mass using UDEC

The accurate prediction of strength and deformability characteristics of rock mass is a challenging *** practice,properties of a rock mass are often estimated from available empirical relationships based on the uniaxial com.ressive strength(UCS).However,UCS does not always give a good indication of in situ rock mass strength and *** aim of this paper is to present a methodology to predict the strength and deformability of a jointed rock mass using UDEC(universal distinct element code).In the study,the rock mass is modelled as an assemblage of deformable blocks that can yield as an intact material and/or slide along predefined joints within the rock mass.A range of num.rical simulations of uniaxial and triaxial tests was conducted on rock mass samples in order to predict the equivalent mechanical properties for the rock mass under different loading ***,results are compared with the deformability parameters obtained by analytical methods.
