Triadimefon(TDm)and cyproconazole(CPZ)are two triazoles widely used as *** azoles were synthe-sised starting from comm.rcial TDm and *** compounds were evaluated against phytopathogenic filamentous fungi,including Aspergillus fumigatus(AF),***(AN),***(AU),***(AJ),***(AT),Fusarium oxyspo-rum and Botrytis cinerea isolated from grapevine in the province of San Juan,*** of the synthesised compounds(1-(Biphenyl-4-yloxy)-3,3-dimethyl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butan-2-one,1;2-(Biphenyl-4-yl)-3-cyclopropyl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butan-2-ol,3;3-Cyclopropyl-2-(4’-fluorobiphenyl-4-yl)-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol1-yl)butan-2-ol,4)presented rem.rkable in vitro fungicidal properties,with better effects than TDm and CPZ on some of the target *** was assessed using human lung fibroblasts *** 1,with IC50 values of 389.4μm,was less toxic towards mrC-5 human lung fibroblasts than comm.rcial TDm(248.5μm)and CPZ(267.4μm).Docking analysis and molecular dynamics simulations suggest that the compounds present the same interaction in the binding pocket of the CYP51B enzyme and with the same amino acids as *** derivatives investigated could be considered broad-spectrum but with some selectivity towards imperfect fungi.

This study describes the anatomy of sterile leaves of Elaphoglossum discolor (Kuhn) C. Chr., E. flaccidum (Fée) T. moore and E. laminarioides (Bory ex Fée) T. moore, the most representative species of the genus in the Ecological Park of Gunma in Pará State. It reports the main diagnostic characters and provides new systematic data for the group. In addition, it locates the production and accumulation sites of bioactive compounds to determine possible adaptive strategies of these species in the Amazon rainforest environment. Diagnostic structural features include stoma typology, central veins and m.rgin forms, type of mesophyll, and the presence of schlerenchymatous sheaths in the cortex, among others. Among the bioactive compounds related to defense adaptation are phenolic compounds, which occur in all three species, and alkaloids and mucilage, which are exclusive to E. laminarioides. Of the three species studied, E. laminarioides has features that make it the best suited to the rainforest environment.

Growth and phenotypic plasticity of two tropical tree species under low light availability

Quantification of Flavonoids in Brazilian Orange Peels and Industrial Orange Juice Processing Wastes

The flavonoid content in orange peels of different Brazilian citrus varieties such as bahia, lima, lima-of-persian, m.rcote, pera, ponkan, seleta, cravo, kinkan and pomelo was assessed. Industry processing juice wastes such as bagasse, bagasse residues, animal feeding bagasse, pulp WEUE and COrE-wash were also analyzed. The HPLC analysis indicates that the most abundant flavonoids found in these Brazilian citrus peels are hesperidin and naringin. The solvents used are selective for flavonoid extraction, and depending on their polarity, glycoside or aglycone flavonoids are extracted. The use of multivariate analysis shows that DmSO is the best solvent to extract glycosides flavanones while hexane displays high selectivity in the extraction of polymethoxylated flavones. The flavonoids present in the orange wastes, obtained at different stages of the industrial processing, are qualitative and quantitatively different. The identification and quantification of the flavonoid composition in each Brazilian citrus variety were evaluated and allowed the selection of the best solvent for the extraction of each specific class of flavonoids. These compounds were found to be m.re abundant in the fruit peels than in their juices, revealing their great industrial potential. The residual portion of the processing juices is also rich in flavonoids, depending on the processing step.

Genetic Diversity of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Isolated from Human T Lymphotropic Virus Type I (HTLV-I) Infected Individuals

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a frequent pathology among HTLV-I+ individuals being capable of severely com.romising the kidneys and bladder. molecular characteristics of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) from HTLV-I+ infected individuals are unknown. UPEC isolates from HTVL-I+ individuals, with and without clinical symptoms of myelopathy, were submitted to genetic typing seeking to infer bacterial diversity and potential virulence. 71 bacterial isolates were characterized according to random amplified polym.rphic DNA and phylotypes. Phylotyping classified E. coli into four phylogenetic groups: A (18.3%), B1 (16.9%), B2 (39.4%), and D (25.3%) and 8 phylotypes according to the presence of the genetic sequences chuA, yjaA and the DNA fragment TSPE4.C2: ﹣﹣﹣ (5.6%) and ﹣+﹣ (12.6%) in phylogroup A, ﹣﹣+ (7.0%) and ﹣++ (9.8%) in B1, +++ (32.3%) and ++﹣ (7.0%) in B2, +﹣﹣ (15.4%) and +﹣+ (9.8%) in D. The B2 phylogroup was the most prevalent among HTLV﹣ associated myelopathy and asymptomatic individuals. rAPD-PCr typing revealed a high degree of bacterial polym.rphism indicating a non-clonal origin. Genotypes were not found to be distributed according to clinical status or epidemiological features. Our results lead us to suggest that the neurological impairment in HTLV-I+ individuals can be a risk factor for urinary infections due E. coli which are caused by distinct bacterial lineages.

Differential IL10 mrNA Profiles Associated to <i>Babesia bovis</i>and <i>B. bigemina</i>Infection Levels in Persistently Infected Animals

This work aimed to find quantitative phenotypic traits that can be used to discriminate the levels of resistance/susceptibility to B. bovis and B. bigemina in two groups of cattle presenting the highest (H) or lowest (L) infection levels and rhipicephalus microplus ticks count. The animals were selected from a previous study of 50 Canchim (5/8 Charolais/zebu) heifers raised in an endemic area for these parasites. These animals were evaluated regarding their TNFα, IL10, IFN-γ, IL12 and iNOS mrNA levels. No differences were found between these groups regarding TNFα, IFN-γ, IL12β or iNOS transcripts. However, the IL10 transcripts were significantly higher in the H group compared to the L group. m.reover, significant correlation coefficients were observed between B. bovis loads and both IL10 and IFN-γ transcripts, while no correlations were found for B. bigemina loads and all tested immune-related transcripts, suggesting that differential IL10 mrNA profiles were closely associated to B. bovis loads. Our results have contributed to a better understanding of the immune responses against Babesia infection, as we demonstrated that the IL10 cytokine levels might also influence or be influenced by parasitemia levels in persistently infected animals.

The B1 dam of Co rrego do Feij～ao mine, owned by Vale, S.A. mining company and located on the FerroCarv～ao stream, collapsed and injected 2.8 mm3of clayey, silty, and sandy iron-and manganese-rich tailings into the Paraopeba river(minas Gerais state, Brazil). The accident occurred on 25 January2019 and the tailings have been co-transported with coarser natural sediment since then, being partly trapped in the Igarape Weir reservoir located on the Paraopeba river nearly 45 km downstream the injection point. The general purpose of the current study was to model suspended sediment transport in the vicinity of the Igarape Weir aiming to assess the concomitant barrier effect imposed by this ***, the spatial distributions of suspended clay, silt, and very fine-grained sand fractions(CSS) of sediment were mapped around the Igarape Weir under low-flow(16 m3/s) and high-flow(5 to 10,000years return period stream discharge; 699—2,699 m3/s) regimes, using riverFlow2D as the modelling tool. The concentrations of the various grain materials in the upstream and downstream sectors were quantified linking the barrier effect to concentration reductions in the direction of stream flow. It was also a study goal to calculate differences of iron and manganese concentrations in the sediment + tailings mixtures along the Paraopeba river. The study results showed reductions in the CSS between 6.6% and18%, from upstream to downstream of the Igarape Weir, related with backwater effects, free and subm.rged hydraulic jumps, bank sedimentation in periods of high flow, and streambed sedimentation controlled by channel sinuosity and tailings density. These reductions were accompanied by drops in the concentrations of iron and manganese present in the clay and silt fractions, which varied between 6% and42% under low flows and between 16% and 44% under high flows. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) has been identified as one of the most prevalent chronic liver disease in adults and children populations. NAFLD is usually associated with the metabolic syndrome(mS), which is chiefly related to insulin resistance and its consequences. Insulin resistance has a crucial role in the pathogenesis of hepatic steatosis and potentially nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). Because of the contemporary epidemics of mS and obesity, the burden of NAFLD is also expected to rise. Unhealthy diets, such as the so-called western diet, are enriched in fructose, trans-fatty acids and saturated fat and seem to be associated with the development of NAFLD. In human studies, certain dietary sugars, particularly fructose, are used as a substrate for lipogenesis leading to hepatic fatty infiltration, inflammation, and possibly fibrosis. Other investigations have shown that fat consumption especially cholesterol and trans/saturated fatty acids are also steatogenic and seem to increase visceral adiposity. The identification of specific dietary components that favor the development of NASH could be important for the management of this disorder. This review focuses on the effects of different dietary approaches to prevent and treat NAFLD emphasizing the macronutrients and energy composition.
