To our knowledge,this is the first study to conduct an objective assessment of the routine decontam.nation practices at a medical microbiology research laboratory(mRL)a year after a biosafety training was provided to all laboratory *** march 28th and June 28th,2021,unobtrusive observations were carried out to identify-three high-touch surfaces at the mRL during different working *** was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the disinfectant used in the *** three high-touch surfaces were sampled before and after decontam.nation with 200 ppm of 5%sodium hypochlorite(household bleach)to quantify the microbial load and identify the types of organisms residing on the laboratory surfaces.A higher concentration(500 ppm)of 5%sodium hypochlorite was employed after refresher training was provided to housekeeping staff,and resampling of the three surfaces was carried out during a 4-week follow-up period using the same *** three high-touch surfaces identified were the two sides of the workbench(22%–24%)and the front surface of one incubator(14%).Anthracoid bacilli and Staphylococcus aureus were the most commonly found organisms on laboratory surfaces preintervention(100%and 89%,respectively)and post-intervention(56%and 44%,respectively).Other microorganisms detected included Salmonella spp.(27.7%),Proteus spp.(5.6%),Escherichia coli(5.6%),and Klebsiella spp.(33.3%).Employing a higher concentration(500 ppm)of sodium hypochlorite significantly(pm an average of 15–250 cfu/cm2 to 10–60 cfu/cm^(2).This study demonstrated suboptimal decontam.nation practices at the mRL and the need to apply a higher concentration(500 ppm)of sodium hypochlorite to reduce the overall microbial *** also demonstrated the importance of quantitative assessment to monitor decontam.nation practices and ensure staff *** studies are needed to identify bacterial communities within the laboratory,which will

In this study,green zinc oxide(ZnO)/polypyrrole(Ppy)/cellulose acetate(CA)film has been synthesized via solvent *** film was used as supporting material for glucose oxidase(GOx)to sensitize a glucose *** nanoparticles have been prepared via the green route using olive leaves extract as a ***/Ppy nanocomposite has been synthesized by a simple in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole(Py)monomer using ferric chloride(FeCl3)as an oxidizing *** produced materials and the composite films were characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEm),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Glucose oxidase was successfully immobilized on the surface of the prepared film and then ZnO/Ppy/CA/GOx composite was sputtered with platinum electrode for the current determ.nation at different initial concentrations of *** measurements proved the suitability and the high sensitivity of the constructed biosensor for the detection of glucose levels in different *** performance of the prepared biosensor has been assessed by measuring and comparing glucose concentrations up to 800 *** results affirmed the reliability of the developed biosensor towards real samples which suggests the wide-scale application of the proposed biosensor.

microbiology Research Laboratory(mRL)is a biosafety level-2(BSL-2)research laboratory located at the main campus of Faculty of medicine,Ain Shams University(ASU)in *** the objective of strengthening the departmental capacities of biosafety,a series of activities were carried out between October 2019,and January 2020 to raise awareness,along with instilling standard biosafety practices and procedures among laboratory staff including non-health *** staff were categorized according to their biosafety knowledge into three tiers:tier(1):with zero to minimal knowledge,tier(2):with basic knowledge,tier(3):with satisfactory *** based activities were designed to align with their job ***:44 selected laboratory staff were trained on biosafety practices:12 from tier(1),19 from tier(2)and 13 constituted tier(3).Through regular follow-ups,the impact of the implemnted training plan was reflected on the practices and knowledge of all laboratory *** among health professions has increased by 60%.Furthermore,6 staff members have granted a biosafety certification by International Federation of Biosafety Association(IFBSA).Conclusion:establishing a culture of biosafety within microbiology research laboratories is integral to safe research *** with developing local and national biosafety regulations and policies will ensure research advancement without compromising public health or environmental safety.

Biofilms grown inside two sewage collecting pipes located in industrial and residential areas are studied. Bacterial biomass inside three layers of biofilms was evaluated. Biofilm cohesion under different mixing rate and ionic strength was also investigated. Effects of physical and chemical parameters in the biofilms were evaluated by monitoring turbidity, chemical and biochemical oxygen demands. Extracted organic matter from biofilms was partitioned to polar, aromatic and saturated fractions using activated silica column chromatography. Results revealed that bacterial biomass growth depending on biofilm thickness and stratification. The most loaded stratum in bacteria/biomass was the sewage-biofilm interface stratum that represented 51% of the total bacteria/biomass. Stirring rate and ionic strength of mono- and bivalent salts showed a major influence in biofilm disruption. The stirring time enhanced the exchange dynamic and matter capture between biofilm fragments at the critical stirring rate 90 r/min. Sodium chloride showed the dispersing effect on biofilms in suspension, and decreased the BOD5 （biochemical oxygen demand） beyond the physiological salt concentration.

A procedure for radioiodination of valsartan with iodine-125 is carried out via an electrophilic substitution of hydrogen atom with the iodonium cation I+. All reaction parameters were studied to optimize the labeling conditions of valsartan and to obtain a maximum radiochemical yield (RCY) of the 125I-Valsartan [125I-Val]. By using 3.7 mBq of na125I, 50 μg of valsartan (0.2 mm) as substrate, 25 μg of Iodogen (0.15 mm) as oxidizing agent in ethanol at room temperature for 30 min, the radiochemical yield of 125I-Val was 98.6% The radiochemical yield was determined by electrophoresis using cellulose acetate moistened with 0.02 m phosphate buffer pH 7. The labeled compound was separated and purified by means of high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). The biological distribution in normal mice indicates the suitability of radioiodinated valsartan to image any cardiovascular disorders.

Tholeiitic basalts in various stages of alteration were dredged from Late Cretaceous volcanic rocks (60-67 ma) in the Hebrides Terrace seamount area in the Atlantic Ocean. These rocks are extrusive olivine basalts, including high- and low-Al basalts. High-Al basalts are depleted in mgO, CaO, Cr, Sc, V, Sr, Zr and enriched in TiO-2, na-2O, Nb, Rb as compared with low-Al basalts. Petrography and bulk-rock composition (major, trace and rare-earth elements) data defined clear tholeiitic suites displaying possible liquid lines of descent related to different degrees of crystal fractionation and partial melting. Isotopic dating of dredged samples gave the guyot an age of 60-67 ma, in support of the assumption that it was formed during the Late Cretaceous.

Polyacrylamide （PAm） film was electrosynthesized on mild steel by cyclic voltammetry using Ce （IV） salt-oxalic acid as supporting electrolyte. Polymerization was initiated by a free radical that was formed by the fast reaction of oxalic acid and Ce （IV）. The electrolysis of the reaction solution resulted in regeneration of Ce （IV）, which could oxidize oxalic acid to produce radicals. The effect of temperature on the yield of electroinitiated polymerization was performed. The potential sweep rates were changed to achieve the polymer film with different thickness. Protective properties of the PAm film for corrosion of mild steel in 1 m.naCI aqueous solution were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS）. The structure of PAm film on mild steel was investigated by using physicochemical methods such as elemental analysis of C, H, N, physical chemical methods and FTIR spectrometer. The influence of scan repetition and scan rate on the formation of polymer film was studied at a current density of 1 mA/cm2. The results of these studies reveal that the corrosion resistance of the PAm-coated mild steel was significantly higher and the corrosion rate was considerably lower than that of uncoated steel. The PAm film was formed with lower sweep rate leading to more positive shift of corrosion potential and greater charge transfer resistance, reflecting higher inhibition for corrosion of the mild steel.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection and its consequent complications are undeniably a public health burden worldwide,particularly in *** evidence suggests that many lncRnas have relevant roles in viral infections and antiviral *** To investigate the expression profiles of circulating lncRnaGAS5,lncRnaHEIH,lncRnaBISPR and m.naBST2 in naïve,treated and relapsed HCV Egyptian patients,to elucidate relation to HCV infection and their efficacy as innovative biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of HCV *** One hundred and thirty HCV-infected Egyptian patients and 20 healthy controls were included in this *** lncRnas and m.naBST2 were measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR).RESULTS Our results indicated that serum lncRnaGAS5 and LncRnaBISPR were upregulated,whereas m.na BST2 and LncRna HEIH were downregulated in naïve *** contrast,HCV patients treated with sofosbuvir and simeprevir;with sofosbuvir and daclatasvir;or with sofosbuvir,daclatasvir and ribavirin exhibited lower levels of lncRnaGAS5 and lncRnaBISPR with higher m.naBST2 compared to naïve ***,patients relapsed from sofosbuvir and simeprevir showed higher levels of these lncRnas with lower m.naBST2 compared to treated ***5 and lncRnaBISPR were positively correlated with viral load and ALT at Pm.naBST2 was negatively correlated with viral load at Pelation between lncRna HEIH and AFP was observed at Pnas suggests their involvement in HCV pathogenesis or antiviral response and highlights their promising roles in diagnosis and prognosis of HCV.
