Indications of pro-inflammatory cytokines in laparoscopic and open liver resection for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma

Background:Our clinical practice of laparoscopic liver resection(LLR)had achieved better short-term and long-term benefits for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)over open liver resection(OLR),but the underlying mechanisms are not *** study was to find out whether systemic inflammation plays an important ***:A total of 103 patients with early-stage HCC under liver resection were enrolled(LLR group,n=53;OLR group,n=50).The expression of 9 inflammatory cytokines in patients at preoperation,postoperative day 1(POD1)and POD7 was quantified by Lum.nex multiplex *** relationships of the cytokines and the postoperative outcomes were compared between LLR and ***:Seven of the circulating cytokines were found to be significantly upregulated on POD1 after LLR or OLR compared to their preoperative *** to OLR,the POD1 levels of granulocytemacrophage colony-stimulating factor(Gm-CSF),interleukin-6(IL-6),IL-8,and m.nocyte chemoattractant protein-1(mCP-1)in the LLR group were significantly *** POD1 levels of these cytokines were significantly correlated with longer operative time and higher volume of blood loss during *** levels of these cytokines were positively associated with postoperative liver injury,and the length of hospital ***,a high level of IL-6 at POD1 was a risk factor for HCC recurrence and poor disease-free survival after liver ***:Significantly lower level of Gm-CSF,IL-6,IL-8,and mCP-1 after liver resection represented a milder systemic inflammation which might be an important mechanism to offer better short-term and long-term outcomes in LLR over OLR.

Integrated photon-pair sources based on spontaneous parametric down conversion(SPDC)in novel high-χ^((2))materials are used in quantum photonic systems for quantum information processing,quantum metrology,and quantum ***,the need for extensive fabrication process developm.nt and optimization of dry-etching processes significantly impedes the rapid exploration of different material platforms for low-loss quantum photonic ***,bound states in the continuum(BICs)have emerged as a promising approach for realizing ultralow-loss integrated photonic circuits without requiring an etching *** realizations of BIC photonic circuits have,however,been limited primarily to the classical ***,we explore the BIC phenom.na in the quantum regime and show that the etchless BIC platform is suitable for use in integrated entangled photon-pair sources based on the SPDC process in high-χ^((2))*** lithium.niobate as an example,we dem.nstrate photon-pair generation at telecomm.nication wavelengths,attaining a maximum internal generation rate of 3.46 mHz,a coincidence-to-accidental ratio of 5773,and an experim.ntal two‐photon interference visibility of 94%.Our results dem.nstrate that the BIC platform can be used for quantum photonic circuits,and this will enable the rapid exploration of different emergingχ^((2))materials for possible use in integrated quantum photonics in the future.

media coverage and price reactions to earnings news

In this study,we find that relative to firms with less media coverage,stock price sensitivity to positive(negative)earnings surprises in earnings announcem.nts of firms with greater media coverage is stronger(weaker).This asymmetry in the effect of media coverage on stock price sensitivity to positive versus negative earnings surprises suggests that greater media coverage of earnings announcem.nts intensifies stock price reactions to positive earnings surprises but attenuates reactions to negative earnings ***,we find that negative earnings news is less persistent for firms with greater media ***,our findings support the conjecture that greater media coverage increases m.nagers’incentive to avoid future negative news,thereby reducing the persistence of poor financial perform.nce and weakening price reactions to negative earnings news.

Soil,the largest terrestrial carbon reservoir,is central to climate change and relevant feedback to environm.ntal *** are the essential components that contribute to over 60%of soil carbon ***,how the interactions between m.nerals and organic carbon shape the carbon transformation and stability remains poorly ***,we critically review the primary interactions between organic carbon and soil m.nerals and the relevant mechanisms,including sorption,redox reaction,co-precipitation,dissolution,polymerization,and catalytic *** interactions,highly complex with the combination of multiple processes,greatly affect the stability of organic carbon through the following processes:(1)formation or deconstruction of the m.neral–organic carbon association;(2)oxidative transformation of the organic carbon with m.nerals;(3)catalytic polymerization of organic carbon with m.nerals;and(4)varying association stability of organic carbon according to the m.neral *** pieces of evidence related to the carbon turnover and stability during the interaction with soil m.nerals in the real eco-environm.nt are then *** also highlight the current research gaps and outline research priorities,which may map future directions for a deeper mechanismsbased understanding of the soil carbon storage capacity considering its interactions with m.nerals.

Correlations of baryon and charge stopping in heavy ion collisions

Baryon numbers are theorized to be carried by valence quarks in the standard QCD picture of the baryon *** theory proposed an alternative baryon number carrier,a non-perturbative Y-shaped configuration of the gluon field,called the baryon junction in the ***,neither of these theories has been verified ***,searching for the baryon junction by investigating the correlation of net-charge and net-baryon yields at midrapidity in heavy-ion collisions has been *** paper presents studies of such correlations in collisions of various heavy ions from oxygen to uranium with the UrQmD m.nte Carlo *** UrQmD model implem.nts valence quark transport as the primary means of charge and baryon stopping at *** studies are also conducted for isobaric ^(96)_(40)Zr+^(96)_(40)Zr and ^(96)_(44)Ru+^(96)_(44)Ru *** found a universal trend of charge stopping with respect to baryon stopping and discovered that the charge stopping is always greater than the baryon *** study provides a model baseline in valence quark transport for what is expected in net-charge and net-baryon yields at the midrapidity of relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

All-inorganic CsPbIBr_(2) perovskite has attracted widespread attention in photovoltaic and other optoelectronic devices because of its superior thermal ***,the deposition of high-quality solutionprocessed CsPbIBr_(2) perovskite films with large thicknesses remains ***,we develop a triple-component precursor(TCP) by employing lead bromide,lead iodide,and cesium bromide,to replace the most comm.nly used double-component precursor(DCP) consisting of lead bromide and cesium ***,the TCP system significantly increases the solution concentration to 1.3 m,leading to a larger film thickness(~390 nm) and enhanced light *** resultant CsPbIBr_(2) films were evaluated in planar n-i-p structured solar cells,which exhibit a considerably higher optimal photocurrent density of 11.50 mA cm^(-2) in comparison to that of DCP-based devices(10.69 mA cm^(-2)).By adopting an organic surface passivator,the maximum device efficiency using TCP is further boosted to a record efficiency of 12.8% for CsPbIBr_(2) perovskite solar cells.

Comparing 11 early warning scores and three shock indices in early sepsis prediction in the emergency departm.nt

BACKGROUnD:This study aimed to evaluate the discrim.natory perform.nce of 11 vital sign-based early warning scores(EWSs)and three shock indices in early sepsis prediction in the emergency departm.nt(ED).mETHODS:We performed a retrospective study on consecutive adult patients with an infection over 3 m.nths in a public ED in Hong *** primary outcome was sepsis(Sepsis-3 definition)within 48 h of ED *** c-statistics and the DeLong test,we compared 11 EWSs,including the national Early Warning Score 2(nEWS2),modified Early Warning Score,and Worthing Physiological Scoring System(WPS),etc.,and three shock indices(the shock index[SI],modified shock index[mSI],and diastolic shock index[DSI]),with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome(SIRS)and quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessm.nt(qSOFA)in predicting the primary outcome,intensive care unit admission,and mortality at different time ***:We analyzed 601 patients,of whom 166(27.6%)developed ***2 had the highest point estimate(area under the receiver operating characteristic curve[AUROC]0.75,95%CI 0.70-0.79)and was significantly better than SIRS,qSOFA,other EWSs and shock indices,except WPS,at predicting the primary ***,the pooled sensitivity and specificity of nEWS2≥5 for the prediction of sepsis were 0.45(95%CI 0.37-0.52)and 0.88(95%CI 0.85-0.91),*** discrim.natory perform.nce of all EWSs and shock indices declined when used to predict mortality at a more remote time ***:nEWS2 compared favorably with other EWSs and shock indices in early sepsis prediction but its low sensitivity at the usual cut-off point requires further modification for sepsis screening.
