Cage-like P4S3 molecule as promising anode with high capacity and cycling stability for Li+/na+/K+ storage

Phosphorus sulfide cage molecule based on P4S3 was investigated for the first time as anode material for the storage of alkali metal ions(Li+, na+, K+). Such P4S3 sample was obtained in a large scale by a simple heating reaction of low-cost rep P and S. X-ray diffraction refinem.nt analysis indicates that P4S3 sample possesses a defect rich molecule crystal structure with S/P atom ratio of 0.74. The P4S3 anode delivered a high reversible capacity of 1266 m Ah g-1 for lithium-ion batteries at 0.1 A g-1 and good cycling perform.nce. Experim.ntal results dem.nstrated that the P4S3 anode undergoes a reversible Listorage reaction of P4S3+ 11 Li++ 11 e-←→ 0.5 Li4P2S6+ 3 Li3P during cycling. It also exhibited a high capacity of 1002 and 378 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 for na+and K+storage, respectively. These properties suggest the promising application of P4S3 anode in high energy batteries.

The microstructures and magnetic properties of Ce-32.15Co_49.36Cu_9.84Fe_9.65 magnet sintered at the temperatures ranging from 1005 to 1105 °C were investigated. The results on scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis indicate that the rem.nence B r of the magnets is mainly influenced by the degree of the easy-axis orientation when sintering temperature is less than 1085 °C, the rapidly increasing amount of the secondly phase (5:19 phase) gives rise to the deterioration of the magnetic properties of the magnet above 1085 °C. moreover, it is found that intrinsic coercivity H ci is strongly related to the content of copper in the matrix of the sintered magnets. The optimal sintering temperature is located in 1025~1055 °C, the corresponding magnetic properties of the magnets are B_r =0.685T, H_(ci) =350kA·m^-1 , and maximum energy product (BH)_m =85.6 kJ·m 3 .

Investigation of microstructure modification of C-doped a-SiO_2/Si after Pb-ion irradiation

Thermally grown amorphous SiO2 （a-SiOz） films were implanted at room temperature （RT） with 100 keV C-ions to 5.0× 10^17 ions/cm2. These samples were irradiated at RT with 853 meV Pb-ions to 1.0x 1012 and 5.0× 10^12 ions/cm2. Then the samples were investigated using Transmission Electron microscopy （TEm） at RT. Significant microstructure modifications were observed in C-doped a-SiO2/Si samples after high energy Pb-ion irradiations, and the formation of new structures depended strongly on the Pb-ion irradiation fluences. For example, tracks in high density were observed in a 1.0× 10^12 Pb/cm2 irradiated and C-doped sample. Additionally, the length of tracks grows, and a large number of 8H-SiC nanocrystals can be seen in the film when irradiation fluence is increased to 5.0× 10^12 Pb/cm2. Possible modification processes of C-doped a-SiO2 under swift heavy ion irradiations are briefly discussed.

Photovoltaic conversion was enhanced by directly assemble of a network of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWnTs) onto the surface of n-p junction silicon solar cells. When the density of SWnTs increased from 50 to 400 tubes μm^(-2), an enhancem.nt of 3.92% in energy conversion efficiency was typically obtained. The effect of the SWnTs network is proposed for trapping incident photons and assisting electronic transportation at the interface of silicon solar cells.

Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area is the most air polluted region in China and the three neighborhood southern Hebei cities, Shijiazhuang, Xingtai, and Handan, are listed in the top ten polluted cities with severe Pm2.5 pollution. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the impacts of aerosol direct effects on air aualitv over the southern Hebei cities, as well as the im0acts when considering those effects on source apportionm.nt using three dim.nsional air quality models. The WRF/Chem model was applied over the East Asia and northern China at 36 and 12 km horizontal grid resolutions, respectively, for the period of January 2013, with two sets of simulations with or without aerosol-meteorology feedbacks. The source contributions of power plants, industrial, domestic, transportation, and agriculture are evaluated using the Brute-Force method （BFm） under the two simulation configurations. Our results indicate that, although the increases in Pm2.5 concentrations due to those effects over the three southern Hebei cities are only 3%-9% on m.nthly average they are much more significant under high Pm2.5 Ioadmgs （-50 gg.m - when Pm25 concentrations are higher than 400μg.m^-3）. When considering the aerosol feedbacks, the contributions of industrial and domestic sources assessed using the BFm will obviously increase （e.g., from 30% 34% to 32%-37% for industrial）, especiallY3under high Pm2.5 loadings （e.g., from 36%-44% to 43%-47% for domestic when Pm2.5〉400μg·m^-3）. Our results imply that the aerosol direct effects should not be ignored during severe pollution episodes, especially in short-term source apportionm.nt using the BFm.

Characteristics of dry deposited m.neral particles associated with weather conditions in the adjacent sea areas of East China during a cruise in spring 2011

Dry deposited particles, larger than 1.3 μm, were collected under clear, cloudy, and foggy conditions during a cruise, traversing the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea from 23 march to 8 April 2011. In these areas, air masses are influenced by pollution outflows from the Asian continent. The size and elem.ntal composition of dry deposited particles were investigated using a scanning electron microscope. number-size distributions of these particles were approximately lognormal. Under clear conditions, the mode size was about 5.0 μm, with a mean diameter of 6.9 μm. Under cloudy and foggy conditions, the mean diameters were 5.7 and 6.0 μm, respectively, but the mode sizes were vague. non-mixed m.neral particles, sea salt, and mixed m.neral-sea salt particles were the major particle types. Correspondingly, Al and Si were the most frequently detected elem.nts. Frequencies of K-, Ca-, and S-containing particles were highest under foggy conditions, while the frequency of na-containing particles was lowest. These results indicate that fog favored sulfate production on the particles and led to the deposited m.neral particles more abundant in secondary salt, suggesting the importance to consider the dependence of the comoosition of deoosited m.neral narticles on weather as well as narticle size.

Achieving versatile room temperature phosphorescence(RTP)materials,especially with tunable mechanical properties and shape memory is attractive and essential but rarely ***,a strategy was reported to realize multi-functional RTP films with multicolor fluorescence,ultralong afterglow,adjustable mechanical properties,and shape memory through the synergistic dynamic interaction of lanthanide(Ln~Ⅲ)-terpyridine coordination,borate ester bonds,and hydrogen bondings in a poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)*** varying the amount of borax,the mechanical properties of the films could be finely controlled due to the change of crosslinking degree of dynamic borate ester bonds in *** assembly and disassembly of borate ester bonds upon the trigger of borax and acid were applied as reversible linkage to achieve programmable shape memory *** addition,the films displayed both fascinating multicolor fluorescence and ultralong afterglow characteristics due to the presence of Ln III doping and confinem.nt of terpyridine in *** study provides a new avenue to impart modulable mechanical strength and shape memory to RTP materials.

Iron Deficiency-induced Increase of Root Branching Contributes to the Enhanced Root Ferric Chelate Reductase Activity

In various plant species, Fe deficiency increases lateral root branching. However, whether this morphological alteration contributes to the Fe deficiency-induced physiological responses still remains to be dem.nstrated. In the present research, we dem.nstrated that the lateral root developm.nt of red clover （Trifolium pretense L.） was significantly enhanced by Fe deficient treatm.nt, and the total lateral root number correlated well with the Fe deficiency-induced ferric chelate reductase （FCR） activity. By analyzing the results from Dasgan et al. （2002）, we also found that although the two tomato genotypes line227/1 （P1） and Roza （P2） and their reciprocal F1 hybrid lines （＂P1 × P2＂ and ＂P2 ×PI＂） were cultured under two different lower Fe conditions （10^-6 and 10^-7 m FeEDDHA）, their FCR activities are significantly correlated with the lateral root number. more interestingly, the -Fe chlorosis tolerant ability of these four tomato lines displays similar trends with the lateral root density. Taking these results together, it was proposed that the Fe deficiency-induced increases of the lateral root should play an important role in resistance to Fe deficiency, which may act as harnesses of a useful trait for the selection and breeding of more Fe-efficient crops am.ng the genotypes that have evolved a Fe deficiency-induced Fe uptake system.
