AIm To study mucosal addressin cellular adhesion molecule-1(mAd cam-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)-targeted contrast enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) for the assessment of murine colitis and carcinogenesis. mETHODS C57bL/6 mice were challenged with 3% dextran sodium-sulfate(DSS) for three, six or nine days to study the development of acute colitis. Ultrasound was performed with and without the addition of unspecific contrast agents. mAd cam-1-targeted contrast agent was used to detect and quantify mAd cam-1 expression. Inflammatory driven colorectal azoxymethane(AOm)/DSS-induced carcinogenesis was examined on day 42 and 84 using VEGF-targeted contrast agent. Highly specific tissue echogenicity was quantified using specialized software. Sonographic findings were correlated to tissue staining, western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry to quantify the degree of inflammation and stage of carcinogenesis. RESULTS Native ultrasound detected increased general bowel wall thickening that correlated with more progressed and more severe DSS-colitis(healthy mice: 0.3 mm ± 0.03 vs six days DSS: 0.5 mm ± 0.2 vs nine days DSS: 0.6 mm ± 0.2, P moreover, these sonographic findings correlated well with clinical parameters such as weight loss(r2 = 0.74) and histological damage(r2 = 0.86)(P murine colitis, CEUS targeted against mAd cam-1 detected and differentiated stages of mild, moderate and severe colitis via calculation of mean pixel contrast intensity in decibel(9.6 d b ± 1.6 vs 12.9 d b ± 1.4 vs 18 d b ± 3.33, P mploying the AOm/DSSinduced carcinogenesis model, tumor development was monitored by CEUS targeted against VEGF and detected a significantly increased echogenicity in tumors as compared to adjacent healthy mucosa(healthy mucosa, 1.6 d b ± 1.4 vs 42 d, 18.2 d b ± 3.3 vs 84 d, 18.6 d b ± 4.9, P mmunohistochemistry findings(VEGF-posi

The discrete element model （DEm） is a very promising modelling strategy for two-phase granular systems. However, owing to a lack of experimental measurements, validation of numerical simulations of two-phase granular systems is still an important issue. In this study, a small two-dimensional gas- fluidized bed was simulated using a discrete element model. The dimensions of the simulated bed were 44mm × 10mm × 120 mm and the fluidized particles had a diameter dp = 1.2 mm and density ρp = 1000 kg/m^3. The comparison between DEm simulations and experiments are performed on the basis of time-averaged voidage maps. The drag-law of beetstra et al. [beetstra, R., van der Hoef, m.A., ＆ Kuipers,J. A. m. （2007b）. Drag force of intermediate Reynolds number flow past mono- and bidispersed arrays of spheres. AIChE Journal, 53,489-501 ] seems to give the best results. The simulations are fairly insensitive to the coefficient of restitution and the coefficient of friction as long as some route of energy dissipation during particle-particle and particle-wall contact is provided. Changing the boundary condition of the gas phase at the side-walls from zero-slip to full-slip does not affect the simulation results. Care is to be taken that the cell sizes are chosen so that a reasonable number of particles can be found in a fluid cell.

Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus infec- tion is associated with several different types of peripheral neuropathy: distal predominantly sensory axonal polyneuropathy, like Guillain barre syndrome. Case presentation: A 55-year-old Caucasian woman with Human immunodeficiency virus infection, diag- nosed with Guillain barre syndrome was studied. Serum and CSF immunoglobulin G and Albumin levels were quantified by using an immunodiffusion technique. She had preceding viral symptoms. The clinical diagnosis of the illness in this patient was pa-resthesias or sensory loss, tendon reflexes. It was also observed cranial nerves abnormalities, acute mo- tor and sensory axonal neuropathy and ophthalmoplegia. The mean CD4 count was 367/mm3, CSF white blood cell 25 wbc/mm3. The serum sodium concentration was significantly low (133 mmol/L). She had a respiratory compromise as a result of their neuropa- thy and developed congestive heart failure and hy- potension and died of a cardiac arrest. The neuro-immunological response described by our patient was a blood/CSF barrier dysfunction without IgG intra-thecal synthesis. Conclusion: There is no doubt that this study is of great importance because will help clinicians increase their knowledge of the immune response in patients with this autoimmune disorder on the basis of this case report, in which, for first time, could be seen the neuroimmunological response through the reibergram in a patient with HIV- asso-ciated Guillain-barre syndrome.

惠州城市植被的滞尘效应

城市植被对城市环境质量的改善发挥了巨大作用。研究了广东省惠州市不同功能区4种主要绿化乔木（大叶榕、小叶榕、高山榕、紫荆）的滞尘能力，比较了不同功能区叶面降尘的重金属和S含量差异，并利用遥感影像技术估算了惠州城市植被的地面总生物量及叶总生物量，推算了惠州市的总滞尘量。结果表明：在达到饱和之前，4种绿化乔木叶面滞尘量随时间延长而增长，大叶榕、高山榕与紫荆、小叶榕两组植物的滞尘能力存在显著性差异（P〈0.05），滞尘能力差异为1.2-2.44倍，不同植物滞尘量由大到小排列为：高山榕〉大叶榕〉小叶榕〉紫荆；不同植物滞尘能力的差异尤其与植株的叶面积、叶倾角、枝条硬度、枝条伸展角度等相关。不同功能区植物滞尘量差异显著（p〈0.01），4种植物在不同功能区的滞尘总量排序为：工业区〉商业交通区〉居住区〉清洁区。不同功能区植物叶面降尘的重金属和硫含量存在显著性差异（P〈0.05），降尘综合污染指数由大到小为：工业区（包括电厂）、商业交通区、居住区、清洁对照区；降尘中重金属含量高负荷。惠州建成区植被的地面生物量为3.2×10^5t，叶面积总量为808.4km^2，全年滞尘量达4430.7t，可去除大气中Cr、Cu、Zn、Cd、Pb、S的量分别为1.63，2.70，5.54，0.04，1.84，19.52t。

The GP130 cytokine receptor subunit encoded by IL6ST is the shared receptor for ten cytokines of the IL-6 family. We describe a homozygous non-synonymous variant in IL6 ST(p.R281 Q) in a patient with craniosynostosis and retained deciduous teeth. We characterize the impact of the variant on cytokine signaling in vitro using transfected cell lines as well as primary patient-derived cells and support these findings using a mouse model with the corresponding genome-edited variant Il6 st p.R279 Q. We show that human GP130 p.R281 Q is associated with selective loss of IL-11 signaling without affecting IL-6, IL-27, OSm, LIF, CT1, CLC, and CNTF signaling. In mice Il6 st p.R279 Q lowers litter size and causes facial synostosis and teeth abnormalities. The effect on IL-11 signaling caused by the GP130 variant shows incomplete penetrance but phenocopies aspects of IL11 ra deficiency in humans and mice. Our data show that a genetic variant in a pleiotropic cytokine receptor can have remarkably selective defects.

background: T-cell infiltration in plaque psoriasis has recently been an important subject of investigation. Interestingly, comparative analyses of the disease-specific composition of the lesional T-cell infiltrate in plaque psoriasis and other inflammatory dermatoses have only sparsely been performed. Objectives: To compare plaque psoriasis vs. atopic dermatitis and lichen ruber planuswith respect to T-cell subsets, epidermal proliferation and keratinization. Patients and methods: biopsies were taken from untreated lesional skin of patients, six with psoriasis, six with atopic dermatitis and six with lichen planus. T-cell subsets (CD4+, CD8+, CD45RO+, CD45ra+, CD2+, CD25+), an epidermal proliferation (Ki-67) and a keratinization marker (K10) were stained immunohistochemically and quantified using image analysis. Results: The high number of CD8+T cells (52±13 cells mm-1) found in the psoriatic epidermis was not found in the epidermis of atopic dermatitis (9±4), nor in the epidermis of lichen planus (34±10). The other T-cell subsets in the epidermis and dermis showed no statistically significant differences between psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. In contrast to the limited presence of CD4+, CD8+and CD2+in the psoriatic dermis (110±19, 27±9, 127±41, cells mm-1, respectively), more impressive numbers of these cells were observed in the dermis of lichen planus (300±53, 144±38, 272±48, respectively). CD45RO+memory effector T-cell counts were significantly higher in the epidermis of lichen planus (39±10) than in psoriasis (19±5). Psoriatic epidermis proved to have major keratinocyte hyperproliferation (247±26 cells mm-1 lamina basalis), as compared with atopic dermatitis (134±15) and lichen planus (128±20). Furthermore, a marked decreased expression of keratin 10 was observed in psoriasis (41%of epidermal area) contrary to atopic dermatitis (70%). Calcium and barium zirconate powders based upon CaZrO 3:Eu3+ , A and baZrO 3:Eu3+, A(A=Li+, Na+, K+) were prepared by combustion synthesis method and heating to ~1000 °C to improve crystallinity. The structure and morphology of materials were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEm). XRD results showed that CaZrO 3:Eu3+, A and baZrO 3:Eu3+, A (A=Li+, Na+, K+) perovskites possessed orthorhombic and cubic structures, respectively. The morphologies of all powders were very similar consisting of small, coagulated, cubical particles with narrow size distributions and smooth and regular surfaces. The characteristic luminescences of Eu 3 + ions in CaZrO 3 :Eu3+ , A (A=Li+, Na+, K+) lattices were present with strong emissions at 614 and 625 nm for 5D0 →7F2 transitions with other weaker emissions observed at 575, 592, 655, and 701 nm corresponding to 5D0 → 7Fn transitions (where n=0,1,3,4, respectively). In baZrO3:Eu3 + both the 5D0 → 7F1and5D0 → 7F2 transitions at 595 and 613 nm were strong. Photoluminescence intensities of CaZrO3:Eu3+samples were higher than those of baZrO 3:Eu3+lattices. This remarkable increase of photoluminescence intensity (corresponding to 5D0→7Fn transitions) was observed in CaZrO3:Eu3+and baZrO3:Eu3+ if co-doped with Li + ions. An additional broad band composed of many peaks between 440 to 575 nm was observed in baZrO3:Eu3+, A samples. The intensity of this band was greatest in Li + co-doped samples and lowest for K + doped samples.
