Quantification of CO2 Emissions from three power plants in China Using OCO-3 Satellite measurements

Coal-fired power plants are a major carbon source in China. In order to assess the evaluation of China’s carbon reduction progress with the promise made on the paris Agreement, it is crucial to monitor the carbon flux intensity from coal-fired power plants. previous studies have calculated CO2 emissions from point sources based on Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 and -3 (OCO-2 and OCO-3) satellite measurements, but the factors affecting CO2 flux estimations are uncertain. In this study, we employ a Gaussian plume model to estimate CO2 emissions from three power plants in China based on OCO-3 XCO2 measurements. moreover, flux uncertainties resulting from wind information, background values, satellite CO2 measurements, and atmospheric stability are discussed. this study highlights the CO2 flux uncertainty derived from the satellite measurements. Finally, satellite-based CO2 emission estimates are compared to bottom-up inventories. the satellite-based CO2 emission estimates at the tuoketuo and Nongliushi power plants are ∼30 and ∼10 kt d−1 smaller than the Open-Data Inventory for Anthropogenic Carbon dioxide (ODIAC) respectively, but ∼10 kt d−1 larger than the ODIAC at Baotou. © Institute of Atmospheric physics/Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Science press 2024.

Swift XRt Analysis of t.pe II-p Supernova SN 2008ij

this study investigates the X-ray properties and evolution of t.pe II supernovae (SNe II) observed by Swift, examining variations among supernovae and exploring their X-ray characteristics over time. We present the first X-ray study of the t.pe IIp supernova SN 2008ij using data from the Swift X-ray mission. this investigation focuses on its spectral properties, identifying an X-ray flux of 1.20 (+0.11, −0.10) × 10−13 erg/cm2/s and a plasma temperature of 4.76 (+1.22, −0.83) keV. Our study marks an advancement in understanding SN 2008ij, providing crucial results into its X-ray emission characteristics. these results lay the groundwork for future studies of t.pe IIp supernovae, offering a foundation for exploring their evolutionary and physical processes.

Dialysis plays a crucial role in the purification of nanomaterials but its impact on the structural properties of carbon nanomaterials was never ***,a carbon-based nanomaterial generated electrochemically in potassium phosphate buffer,was characterized before and after dialysis against.pure *** is shown that dialysis affects the size of the carbon domains,structural organization,surface functionalization,oxidation degree of carbon,and grade of ***,dialysis drives the nanomaterial organization from discrete roundish carbon domains,with sizes ranging from 70 to 160 nm,towards linear stacking structures of small nanoparticles （m）.In parallel,alcohol and ether （epoxide） surface groups evolve into more oxidized carbon groups （e.g.,ketone and ester groups）.Investigation of the as-prepared nanomaterial by electron paramagnetic resonance （EpR） revealed a resonance signal consistent with carbon-oxygen centred ***,this study brings to light the selective affinity of the carbon nanomaterial under study to capture Na+ions,a property greatly enhanced by the dialysis process,and its high ability to trap oxygen,particularly before *** findings open new perspectives for the application of carbon-based nanomaterials and raise awareness of the importance of structural changes that can occur during the purification of carbon-based nanomaterials.

Efficient guiding and focusing of intense laser pulse using periodic thin slits

Slits have been widely used in laser-plasma interactions as plasma optical components for generating high-harmonic light and controlling laser-driven particle ***,we propose and demonstrate that.periodic thin slits can be regarded as a new breed of optical elements for efficient focusing and guiding of intense laser *** fundamental physics of intense laser interaction with thin slits is studied,and it is revealed that relativistic effects can lead to enhanced laser focusing far beyond the pure diffractive focusing *** addition,the interaction of an intense laser pulse with periodic thin slits makes it feasible to achieve multifold enhancement in both laser intensity and energy transfer efficiency compared with conventional *** results provide a novel method for manipulating ultra-intense laser pulses and should be of interest for many laser-based applications.

Biotransformation of 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FtS) in sulfur-rich media by tramet.psis cervina

Biotransformation of 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FtS) by two species of white-rot fungi, pleurotus ostreatus (p. ostreatus) and tramet.psis cervina (t. cervina), was investigated in a sulfur-rich medium designed to stimulate production of lignin-degrading enzymes. Degradation of 6:2 FtS was observed by t. cervina over the study period of 30 d, but not by p. ostreatus. Biotransformation rates were comparable to those found in other studies investigating mixed culture degradation in non-sulfur limiting media, with approximately 50 mol% of applied 6:2 FtS removed after 30 d. Stable transformation products were short-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (pFCAs), including pFHxA (2.27 mol%), pFpeA (0.24 mol%), and pFBA (0.28 mol%). the main intermediate products include 5:2 sFtOH (16.3 mol%) and 5:3 FtCA (2.99 mol%), while 6:2 FtCA, 6:2 FtuCA, and 5:2 ketone were also identified at low levels. Approximately 60 mol% of detected products were assigned to the major pathway to 5:2 ketone, and 40 mol% were assigned to the minor pathway to 5:3 FtCA. the overall molar balance was found to decrease to 75 mol% by Day 30, however, was closed to near 95 mol% with a theoretical estimation for the volatile intermediates in the headspace, 5:2 ketone and 5:2 sFtOH. the different capabilities of the two white-rot fungal species for 6:2 FtS biotransformation in sulfur-rich media suggest that the enzyme processes of t. cervina to de-sulfonate 6:2 FtS may be unrelated to sulfur metabolism. Wildfire severity alters soil microbial exoenzyme production and fungal abundances in the southern Appalachian mountains

Climate change has increased drought frequency and duration that are exacerbated by increased temperatures globally. this effect has, and will continue,to increase fire occurrence across many regions of North America. In the southern Appalachian mountains, wildfires with high burn severity occurred in 2016due to increased drought and human activity. to investigate the effects of burn severity on soil physicochemical properties, microbial extracellular enzyme production, and microbial abundances in a temperate region, surface soils (0–15 cm) were collected from two sites (the Great Smoky mountains National park in tennessee and the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina, USA) spanning lightly, moderately, and severely burned areas, accompanied by adjacent unburned locations that act as controls. the soil samples were collected at three time points between 2017 and 2019 (i.e., 0.5, 1, and 2.5 years post-fire)among burn severity plots. total hydrolytic enzyme production varied over time, with severe burn plots having significantly lower enzyme production at 2.5years post-fire. Individual enzymes varied among burn severities and across time post-fire. Light burn plots showed greater carbon-specific (β-glucosidase and β-xylosidase) and phosphorus-specific (acid phosphatase) enzyme activities at 0.5 years post-fire, but this effect was transient. At 2.5 years post-fire, theβ-xylosidase and acid phosphatase activities were lower in severe or moderate burn plots relative to the controls. In contrast, the activity of nitrogen-specific enzyme leucyl aminopeptidase was the lowest in severe burn plots at 0.5 years post-fire, but was the lowest in light burn plots at 2.5 years post-fire. the fungi:bacteria ratio declined with burn severity, indicating that fungi are sensitive or less resilient to high burn severity during recovery. these results suggest that wildfires alter trajectories for soil microbial structure and function within a 2.5-year timeframe, which potentially

metabolic syndrome and the urinary microbiome of patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Objective:to identify possible stone-promoting microbes,we compared the profiles of microbes grown from stones of patients with and without metabolic syndrome(metS).the association between metS and urinary stone disease is well established,but the exact.pathophysiologic relationship remains *** evidence suggests urinary tract dysbiosis may lead to increased nephrolithiasis ***:At the time of percutaneous nephrolithotomy,bladder urine and stone fragments were collected from patients with and without *** sample t.pes were subjected to expanded quantitative urine culture(EQUC)and 16 S ribosomal RNA gene ***:Fifty-seven patients included 12 controls(21.1%)and 45 metS patients(78.9%).Both cohorts were similar with respect to demographics and non-metS *** controls had uric acid stone *** EQUC,bacteria were detected more frequently in metS stones(42.2%)compared to controls(8.3%)(p=0.041).Bacteria also were more abundant in stones of metS patients compared to *** validate our EQUC results,we performed 16 S ribosomal RNA gene *** 12/16(75.0%)sequence-positive stones,EQUC reliably isolated at least one species of the sequenced *** were detected in both“infectious”and“non-infectious”stone ***:Bacteria are more common and more abundant in metS stones than control *** findings support a role for bacteria in urinary stone disease for patients with metS regardless of stone composition.
