Introduction: Quality of life in Parkinson disease is not necessary linked to motor symptoms. It’s correlated of overactive bladders and prostatic symptoms. Prognosis factors of urinary quality of life are unknown. Objectives: Our study aims to find prognosis factors of quality of life associated specifically of urinary disorders in PD. Patients and methods: We conducted a transversal, analytic and descriptive study in Physical medicine, and Neurology departments, Fann Teaching Hospital, Dakar and included patients followed for treatment of PD. Urinary disorders, quality of life and functional autonomy were assessed respectively by Urinary Symptoms Profile (USP), Qualiven Short Form, Schwab and England Scale. Results: 38 patients presented PD, with a mean age of 60.89 ± 13.6 years and sex-ratio of 2.45. mean duration of PD was 3.1 ± 2.9 years. Urinary disorders were found in 47.36% and dominated by incontinence (88.88%) and overactive bladders (88.88%) which were minor in more than 55%. Quality of life was impaired in 88.88% of cases. minor forms (43.75%) were predominant and constraint dimension (50%) was the most severely altered. Prognosis factors for quality of life of urinary disorders were PD stages (0.046) and functional autonomy (0.042). Discussion and conclusion: Urinary disorders in PD are common, impaired quality of life, especially the constraint dimension, depends on stage of evolution of PD and functional autonomy of patients.

Saba senegalensis is a popular wild fruit;which is consumed as such or transformed into various products. Despite its economic potential, its nutritional potential is unknown. The objective of this study is to characterize its fruits according to Senegal’s main production areas. The study included five samples from five geographical areas of Senegal. Parameters measured include pH, protein, lipids, ash, moisture, vitamin C, carotenoids, polyphenols, minerals, and sugars. The results showed that for moisture, proteins, lipids, pH and reducing sugars did not differ significantly (p 0.05%) for all accessions. Vitamin C content varies between 32.86 and 198.22 mg·100g-1, carotenoids with a content of between 5.05 and 9.12 mg·100g-1;polyphenol contents are between 1.17 and 2.56 g·100g-1. The nutritional value of Saba fruits appears to be homogeneous in Senegal. A thorough study of the functional molecules seems necessary for a better appreciation of the potential of this fruit.

Native of West Africa, Saba senegalensis belongs to the family of Apocynaceae, and is a wild plant that is mainly exploited in the diet. It grows mainly along riverbanks, in wooded savannah areas in humid areas, in gallery forests and in rocky ravines and hills. Saba senegalensis is a large woody liana with white latex, dark gray bark, can reach more than 40 m high and a trunk that can measure up to 47 cm in diameter. The fruit is a globose shell, 7 to 10 cm long, 6 to 8 cm wide. The leaves are opposite, elliptical, dark green in color, about 8 to 15 cm long and 4 to 6 cm wide. This fruit is characterized by its richness in antioxidant molecules especially vitamin C (480 mg/100 g) and total polyphenols (945.83 mg/100 g). The fruit contents 41.43 until 80% water with a low pH (2.24). In Senegal, the fruit is eaten as it or transformed into puree, nectar, syrup, canned etc. It is a plant that has enormous therapeutic virtues, from the fruit to the roots through the leaves, bark, and latex. Despite its high nutritional potential, its many therapeutic virtues and its economic potential, Saba senegalensis remains under-exploited. Further researches on the nutritional and therapeutic properties deserve to be conducted.

Experimentation of a Forced Convection Solar Dryer for Drying Sweet Potatoes at the Higher Institute of Technology of m.m.u-Guinea

This study was carried out at the m.m.u Higher Institute of Technology during the period from.m.rch 10 to April 15, 2022, with the aim of designing and testing a solar dryer with forced convection by drying potatoes. The dryer was designed using local materials. Its main geometric parameters are: 1) height of the drying chamber (90 cm), 2) length of the drying chamber (50 cm), 3) width of the drying chamber (43 cm), 4) surface of the racks (0.1806 m2), 5) surface of the heat accumulator (0.2537 m2). The experiment focused on the vacuum test of the dryer for two days and that of the drying of the sweet potato for three days from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The average vacuum test temperature values of the three environments are respectively accumulator (43°C), dryer chamber (41°C) and ambient environment (34°C). Four kilograms (4 kg) of boiled sweet potato were dried. The average temperatures in the accumulator and in the drying chamber during the three days of drying are respectively 33°C and 39°C. The final mass of the dried product is 1.2 kg, with a quantity of water extracted of 2 liters or 63% of the initial mass of the product. The average drying rate is 0.074 kg/h. The drying kinetics showed a decreasing rate in the absence of the heating period and the constant rate period.

The advent of technology in the world has led to enormous, varying economic and social changes. Those changes have influenced the climate balance, which leads to global temperature rise, hence oceanic expansion and melting glaciers. These various phenomena caused the variation in the mean sea level. Thus, in this study we have evaluated that variation from the instrumental recordings of the tide gauges available in the region, which led us to choose the tide gauges of Dakar (Senegal), Nouakchott (mauritania) and Palmeira (Cape Verde). The analysis of the tidal series began with the test of presence or absence of significant trends in the series using the man-Kendall method followed by the decomposition of these series using the SSA, ARImA and SLT techniques, which would result in the trend, seasonality and residues. The results of this analysis show a variation of 1.52 mm/year, 4.51 mm/year and 20.08 mm/year respectively for the Dakar, Palmeira and Nouakchott tide gauges.

This study analyses change in rainfall and temperature indices by 2035 and 2050 in Senegal, with a focus on the Fatick region. These parameters are crucial for understanding the impacts of anthropogenic climate change on some vital socio-economic sectors such as agriculture and water resources in this region. To this end, a multi model ensemble mean of 21 bias-adjusted global climate models participating in CmIP5 has been used. We considered two Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). The results indicate an increase of 0.7˚C for maxim.m.and minim.m.temperature by 2035 compared to the reference period (1976 - 2005). By 2050, an increase of 1.4˚C (2˚C) is projected for RCP4.5 (RCP8.5). These increases in temperature are statistically significant at the 90% confidence level. Conversely, the mean rainy season length decreases from 95 to 85 days by 2035 and less than 80 days by 2050. These decreases in rainy season length are mainly due to a delayed rainy season onset by 2035 and 2050, with the ensemble mean projecting an onset in the second half of July by 2050 instead of around the middle of June. The changes in both the onset and the length of the rainy season are significant at the 90% confidence level. Our results show a slight decrease in seasonal cumulated total rainfall by 2035 and 2050. However, we note a slight increase in seasonal cumulated extreme rainfall. These future changes in climate indices could induce yield reduction and water resources availability. To reduce yield losses, it would be interesting to adopt longer season varieties and also diversify income-generating activities. Concerning water resources, many actions could be done such as carrying out water retention works, treatment and reuse of non-conforming water for agriculture and livestock to reduce pressure on the resource.

Progression of minimally Invasive Urological Surgery at Hôpital Général Idrissa Pouye in Dakar in 20 Years of Practice

Introduction: Open surgery is gradually being supplanted by minimally invasive surgical techniques worldwide. Our study aimed to describe the place of minimally invasive surgery at the Hôpital Général Idrissa Pouye (HOGIP) in Dakar. materials and methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study over a 20-years period from 1st June 2000 to 31st December 2021 in the urology department of HOGIP in Dakar. The list of all surgical procedures performed was computed. We evaluated the distribution of minimally invasive procedures (endoscopy, PCNL, laparoscopy) overall and over the years. We made calculations of proportions and statistical significance was considered for alpha = 0.05. Results: In 20 years, 14,855 surgical procedures were performed, of which 5344 (36%) were minimally invasive surgeries. The average age of men was 53.19 years (standard deviation: 21.77) vs 47.32 years (standard deviation: 18.43) for women. minimally invasive procedures in the lower urinary tract accounted for 71.93% and involved 1033 cystoscopies (26.87%), 1020 Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) (26.53%), 931 Direct Vision Internal Urethrotomy (DVIU) (24.21%, and 612 Trans Urethral Resection of the Bladder (TURB) (15.92%). In the upper urinary tract, 1461 (28.07%) minimally invasive procedures were performed, including PCNL in 193 cases (3.61%), laser endopyelotomy in 104 cases (1.95%), ureteroscopy in 486 cases (1.7%) and laparoscopy in 39 cases (0.46%). The proportion of minimally invasive surgery has gradually increased. Among the 5344 minimally invasive procedures, 333 (5.23%) were performed in 2000-2004 and 2332 (43.63%) in 2015-2019. Conclusion: minimally invasive surgery represents an important part of the activity of the HOGIP urology department. Its development has improved over the years offering its advantages to the patients.

Intradialytic Hypertension: Prevalence and Associated Factors in Chronic Hemodialysis Patients in Senegal

Introduction: Intradialytic hypertension is defined as elevation of blood pressure to more than 10 mmHg in the post-dialysis period as compared to the pre-dialysis one. It is an important factor of morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. The aim of our study is to assess the prevalence and associated factors of intradialytic hypertension. Patients and methods: This is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study that was conducted over a period of 3 weeks in the hemodialysis units of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital in Dakar and Regional Hospital Center in Ziguinchor. Chronic he-modialysis patients who are at least 18 years old and agreed to participate in study have been included. Patients who did not have 4 measures or those who decided to withdraw from the study were excluded. Intradialytic hypertension was restrained by an increase in systolic blood pressure immediately after the hemodialysis session > 10 mmHg compared to that recorded before session, with a repetition of this phenomenon for at least 4 hemodialysis sessions. Results: Our study included 539 hemodialysis sessions for 93 hemodialysis patients with a mean age of 48.72 ± 14.06 years and a sex ratio (m/F) of 1.21. The mean duration of dialysis was 64.22 ± 45.63 months. Hypertensive nephropathy was significantly common, noted in 38.7% (36 patients). mean inter dialytic weight gain was 2.04 ± 1.06 kg, and the average dry weight was 62.71 ± 13.69 kg. The average hemoglobin level was 9.27 ± 1.91 g/dl. The mean albumin level was 35.4 ± 7.48 g/l. Nineteen (19) patients were administered erythropoietin stimulating agents (20.4%), and 59 patients were given antihypertensive drugs (63.4%). An elevation of more than 10 mmHg of post-dialysis BP compared to pre-dialysis was noted in 179 sessions, which is 33.2 per 100 hemodialysis sessions. In the town of m.m.u,all homes with sanitation systems are equipped with autonomous installations not connected to a sewer *** emptying service is provided by manual emptiers and by the living environment and sanitation service of the urban municipality which has a single 6 m^(3)*** objective of this work is to determine the quantity of fecal sludge produced within the city for sustainable *** methodology adopted is based on a field survey and the use of three methods for evaluating the quantities of sludge(specific production,quantity of sludge collected by the sludge truck and the total production of sludge produced in the various sludge works).The results obtained show that,out of the 2,940 sanitation works identified,2,936 works have been emptied at least once since their *** 2,307 structures are emptied manually or 78.57%,against;619 structures emptied mechanically or 21.08%.The structures are emptied on average every 3 years for septic tanks and every 5 years for dry *** specific production of sludge is 685,241,532 m^(3)/year;the production of sludge by the mechanical emptying technique varies from 588,641.57 m^(3)/year to 724,800.46 m^(3)/year and the production of sludge by manual emptying is 1,573,709.33 m^(3)/year,for a total quantity of sludge produced including between 2,162,350 m^(3)/year to 685,241,531.9 m^(3)/year.
