Water contaminated with pathogenic microbes is considered as one of the most common routes for transmitting diseases in human *** methods have been applied for the decontamination of microbes in contaminated *** the current study,an easy to do hydrothermal method has been used for the preparation of TiO_(2)-Ag *** obtained material was characterised using a scanning electron microscope(SEm)and fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy(FTIR).The morphological appearance of the obtained nanoparticles was in the shape of a sphere with a size range of 60-90 *** antimicrobial activity of the prepared nanoparticles was tested against several pathogenic bacteria and *** obtained results proved that the nanoparticles succeeded to affect all the tested microbes in the following order:Bacillus cereus ATCC6633>Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC9027=Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC13883>Vibrio cholera ATCC700=Candida albicans ATCC 700=Escherichia coli NCTC10418>Staphylococcus aureus *** minimum inhibitory concentration(mIC)of the prepared nanoparticles varied among the tested microbes at range of 12 mg/ml and 25 mg/*** results encourage the application of prepared TiO_(2)-Ag nanoparticles for treatment of microbe-contaminated waters.

Understanding the Sociocultural Health Belief model Influencing Health Behaviors among Saudi Stroke Survivors

Understanding patients’ beliefs of stroke, especially that cultural model which influences the medical management, is important. Professionals normally hold medical knowledge only about stroke, rather than the patients’ perceptions, which leads to limitations in cultural competency. Little is known about Saudi stroke survivors’ beliefs and behaviors related to their strokes. methods: A qualitative methodology was used to collect in-depth information from stroke survivors. From march 2010 to October 2014, 45 stroke survivors were recruited from outpatient rehabilitation clinic at King Fahad medical City (KFmC-RH), during their follow-up treatments. Results: Thematic content analysis yielded four major themes of the causes of stroke: medical, cultural, psychological and environmental. Three major themes were determined regarding stroke interventions: medical, lifestyle and behavioral, as well as cultural interventions. Stroke is most likely to be associated with a wide range of cultural beliefs by stroke survivors, leading them to cultural behaviors and management. All of these cultural interventions were typically used as an adjunct rather than an alternative to medical care. Conclusions: Health professionals need to be aware that cultural beliefs and their management are common problems for stroke survivors undergoing rehabilitation in a hospital. This study could be one step forward to help health professionals become culturally competent when working with stroke survivors in a rehabilitation setting in Saudi Arabia.

Natural contamination of human hands with enteric parasites in Indian Subcontinent

AIm: To investigate the prevalence of enteric parasite contamination on hands and the potential role naturally contaminated hands may have in their transmission. mETHODS: Prior to initiating the survey, the protocol was reviewed and approved by respective Institutional Review Boards of each survey site(Dhaka, Bangladesh and Kolkata, India). Both stool and corresponding hand wash samples collected, were analyzed for the presence of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts employing conventional microscopy coupled with permanent staining techniques. Additionally molecular approachessuch as polymerase chain reaction(PCR) of enteric parasites recovered from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples, were also used to further confirm their identity. RESULTS: A total of 972 stool samples were collected from both sites surveyed(300 volunteers from Kolkata, India and 672 from Dhaka, Bangladesh). Parasitic analysis revealed, 113(38%) from Kolkata, India and 267(40%) of stool samples from Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. When the corresponding hand wash samples were analyzed, 43(14%) stool-positive volunteers in Kolkata, India and 47(7%) in Dhaka, Bangladesh were positive for enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts. Ascaris lumbricoides(A. lumbricoides) ova and Giardia lamblia(G. lamblia) cysts predominated in hands wash samples from both sites surveyed(from India, A. lumbricoides ova, 53%; G. lamblia cysts 31% and from Bangladesh, A. lumbricoides ova, 47%; G. lamblia cysts 19%). Genotypic analysis of enteric parasitic ova/(oo)cysts obtained from both stool and corresponding hand wash samples taken from the same person were found to be identical. CONCLUSION: These results suggest a possible role of hands contaminated with enteric parasites' ova/(oo)cysts in the transmission of these parasites highlighting another role of hand hygiene/proper hand washing in reducing the disease burden in low socioeconomic communities.

Effect of the Chemical mutagens Sodium Azide on Plant Regeneration of Two Tomato Cultivars under Salinity Stress Condition in vitro

The study was carried out to induce variations and stimulate callus induction, plant regeneration from different explants of two tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum mill.) cultivars Trescantos and super Regina by using tissue culture technique and Sodium azide as a chemical mutagens at concentrations (0.0, 2.0 and 4.0) mm under salinity stress condition at the levels(3.0, 6.0 and 9.0) dS/m. Different plant growth regulators were tested for their potentials in callus induction. The results revealed that treated seeds with SA (sodium azide) at concentration (2.0) mm increased seed germination percentage, seedling height and root length as compare to control treatment. While (4.0) mm concentration cause a reduction in all parameters mentioned above. Concerning to callus induction both cultivars showed a different response against different tested media with varying concentrations of plant growth regulators and despite their variable response to all tested media a combination of (2.0) mg from Kinetin (KIN) and Indol acetic acid (IAA) was found to be the most effective as compare to other treatments. moreover, when callus transferred to a stressed media the variation was observed in explants fresh weight, and high reduction with the increment of salt level were recorded. Similarly the regeneration efficiency from stressed callus were observed at the level 3.0 and 6.0 dS/m while 9.0 dS/m the callus failed to regenerate plants for all three explants of both tomato cultivars.

Antimicrobial Activities of Seed Extracts of mango (<i>mangifera indica</i>L.)

mangifera indica L. is a species of mango in the Anacardiaceae family. It is found in the wild in tropical regions and cultivated varieties have been introduced to other warm regions of the world. This present study aimed to investigate the in vitro antimicrobial activities of methanol and ethanol extracts of mango seed against 25 representatives gram positive, gram negative, acid fast bacteria and fungi. mango fruit seed were extracted by Soxhlet using methanol and ethanol as solvents. The extracts were tested against the microorganisms using disc diffusion method at different concentrations: 5 mg/mL, 3.75 mg/mL, 3.125 mg/mL, 2.5 mg/mL, 1.875 mg/mL and 1.25 mg/mL). In vitro antibacterial activities of methanol and ethanol extracts of mango bulb showed inhibitions to tested organisms with variable inhibition zones. Except one organism (Rhodococcus equi), no resistance among the tested strains was shown. The mean zone of inhibition produced ranged between 5 mmand18 mmwith18 mm/mycobacterium smegmatis showed the highest zone of inhibition. In most test strains comparable zones of inhibitions were noted for both methanol and ethanol extract. Candida albicans and Aspergilllus niger were both inhibited by the extracts. The methanol and ethanol extracts of mango seed showed good inhibitory effects against almost all tested strains. The inhibition zones produced by mango extract were less than those produced by standard positive control drug. This could be due to low diffusion rate of mango extract in agarose medium, a thing needed to be further investigated. The products are potential new antimicrobial therapy in the ethnopharmacology domain.

Neonatal Kawasaki Disease: A Case Report

Objective: To report a case of Kawasaki disease (KD) with unusual age at presentation. Case Report: A 26-day-old Saudi boy presented with fever, irritability and poor feeding for 3 days. There was right cervical lymph node enlargement. There was mild throat congestion and bilateral congested tympanic membrane. The liver was palpable. Otherwise, there were no more abnormal physical findings. Laboratory findings revealed high erythrocyte sedimentation rate and positive C-reactive protein. The patient was admitted into an isolation room and antibiotics were started. On the 5th day, the condition of the patient deteriorated. Ampicillin was discontinued and vancomycin was started till getting the results of the culture sensitivity. On the 7th day, he developed diaper rash and fever spikes continued. On the 8th day, the patient developed swelling, redness and hotness of the right hand. Possibility of sepsis was considered and the administered antibiotics were imipenem and vancomycin, while cefotaxime was discontinued. On the 12th day, the patient developed anemia and leukocytosis. Gamma glutamyl transpeptidase was high. On the 15th day, the patient started to develop maculopapular rash on the trunk and desquamation of both hands and feet with swelling, cracked lips, bilateral conjunctival injection and unilateral neck lymph node swelling. So, the infant’s condition was clinically diagnosed as KD. Aspirin was started and 2 doses of intravenous immunoglobulins were given. On the 18th day, the condition of patient improved and the fever subsided. Conclusions: The diagnosis of KD among neonates is a clinical challenge. Diagnosis is based on clinical criteria after the exclusion of other diseases presenting with high persistent fever. Early treatment by administering intravenous immunoglobulins and aspirin can help prevent cardiac complications. There is a pressing need to raise awareness among pediatricians about this disease.

In recent years,there has been an increasing demand to improve cellular communication services in several *** aspect that received the most attention is improving the quality of coverage through using smart antennas which consist of array *** paper investigates the main characteristics and design of the three types of array antennas of the base station for better coverage through simulation(mATLAB)which provides field and strength patterns measured in polar and rectangular coordinates for a variety of conditions including broadsides,ordinary End-fire,and increasing directivity End-fire which is typically used in smart *** method of analysis was applied to twenty experiments of process design to each antenna type separately,so sixty results were obtained from the radiation pattern indicating the parameters for each radiation ***,nineteen design experiments were described in this *** is hoped that the results obtained from this study will help engineers solve coverage problems as well as improve the quality of cellular communication networks.

Resolution of an esophageal leak and posterior gastric wall necrosis with esophageal self-expandable metal stents

The use of weight reduction surgeries has increased over the years with a higher proportion of these surgeries being sleeve gastrectomies,this has been associated with some complications including staple line *** report a 32-year-old male who had undergone a laparoscopic gastric band surgery and subsequently a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy,this was complicated by both an staple line leak at the gastroesophageal junction as well as a large(> 4 cm) posterior gastric wall defect due to gastric wall necrosis. We used two co-axially inserted self-expandable stents(SEmS) in the management of this patient,5 stents were used over repeated endoscopy sessions and 20 wk. Both defects had resolved without the need for surgical *** is the first reported case were SEmS are used for both a staple line leak as well as a gastric wall *** also review the literature on the use of SEmS in the management of leaks post weight reduction surgeries.

Racial Differences Effects on Oral Health and Periodontal Diseases Extent, Staging and Grading among the multi-Ethnic Expatriates in Aseer Region, Saudi Arabia

Background: Given the increase in the numbers of expatriates in Saudi Arabia and the shortage of information about expatriates’ oral health and periodontal disease severity and progression. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the racial differences on oral health and periodontal disease extent, staging, and grading among the multi-ethnic expatriates in the Aseer region, Saudi Arabia. materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 300 expatriates in Aseer region, Saudi Arabia. They were divided into three equal racial different groups (n = 100), Arabs (AR), Asians (AS), and Africans (AF). The interviews of all participants were completed then the clinical examinations of periodontal diseases extent, staging, and grading parameters were performed. Statistical analysis was done by ANOVA test, Tukey’s test, and Chi-square test. The statistical significance level was determined at p Results: There were statistically significant differences in the comparison between the three ethnic/racial groups in clinical parameters except in GBI, PCR, FI, TFO, and BC, where there were no statistically significant differences in the comparison between the three ethnic/racial groups. There were differences associated with age, gender, smoking, and diabetes, without statistically significant differences among the three racial groups. Conclusion: We concluded that most participants in this study had a generalized severe grade 4 plaque-induced gingivitis and localized periodontitis stage III grade B.
