Repositioning of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and glucagon like peptide-1 agonists as potential neuroprotective agents

Repositioning of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and glucagon like peptide-1 receptor agonists is a breakthrough in the field of neural regeneration research increasing glucagon like peptide-1 bioavailability, hence its neuroprotective activities. In this article, the authors suggest not only crossing blood-brain barrier and neurodegenerative disease as off target for dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and glucagon like peptide-1 receptor agonists, but also for ophthalmic preparations for diabetic retinopathy, which may be the latest breakthrough in the field if prepared and used in an appropriate nano-formulation to target the retinal nerves. The relation of neurodegenerative diseases' different mechanisms to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and glucagon like peptide-1 receptor agonists should be further examined in preclinical and clinical settings. The repositioning of already marketed antidiabetic drugs for neurodegenerative diseases should save the high cost of the time-consuming normal drug development process. Drug repositioning is a hot topic as an alternative to molecular target based drug discovery or therapeutic switching. It is a relatively inexpensive pathway due to availability of previous pharmacological and safety data. The glucagon like peptide-1 produced in brain has been linked to enhanced learning and memory functions as a physiologic regulator in central nervous system by restoring insulin signaling. Intranasal administration of all marketed gliptins(or glucagon like peptide-1 receptor agonists) may show enhanced blood-brain barrier crossing and increased glucagon like peptide-1 levels in the brain after direct crossing of the drug for the olfactory region, targeting the cerebrospinal fluid. In this paper, the problem of finding exact solutions to the magnetohydrodynamic(mHD) equations in the presence of incompressible mass flows with helical symmetry is considered. For ideal flows, a similarity reduction method is used to obtain exact solutions for several mHD flows with nonlinear variable mach number. For resistive flows parallel to a magnetic field, the governing equilibrium equation is derived. The mHD equilibrium state of a helically symmetric incompressible flow is governed by a second-order elliptic partial differential equation(PDE) for the helical magnetic flux function. Exact solutions for the latter equation are obtained. Also, the equilibrium equations of a gravitating plasma with incompressible flow are derived.

The relationship between the microstructure and the practical performance of two different copper-beryllium alloys including their lifetime has been ***,two valves made of two different alloys with very similar compositions and the same heat treatment methods were investigated by various standard techniques including metallography,X-ray diffraction,chemical composition,microhardness,and thermal conductivity *** both alloys experienced the same heat-treatment processes,they revealed different thermal and mechanical properties due to the minor difference in their chemical *** alloy providing a longer lifetime (40%more) as the tip had a higher thermal conductivity of 280.3 W(m·K)^(-1) (about two times that of the other alloy).Regarding the metallography images and the measured thermal conductivity values of the alloys,the extended lifetime of the nozzle with the optimum performance is ascribed to its biphasic microstructure and the minor grain boundaries and interfacial thermal *** important difference in the chemical composition was investigated in this study.

We present a new method for determining the age and relative contribution of different stellar populations in galaxies based on the genetic *** apply this method to the barred spiral galaxy NGC 3384,using CCD images in U,B,V,R and I *** analysis indicates that the galaxy NGC 3384 is mainly inhabited by old stellar population(age〉10^9 yr).Some problems were encountered when numerical simulations are used for determining the contribution of different stellar populations in the integrated color of a *** results show that the proposed genetic algorithm can search efficiently through the very large space of the possible ages.

Organosilicone thin films have been deposited by plasma polymerization(pp)in a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition(PECVD)system using hexamethyldisilazane(HmDSN:C_(6)H_(19)Si_(2)N)as a monomer precursor,at different biases of the stainless-steel substrate *** substrate bias affected film thickness,surface morphology,chemical composition and photoluminescence(PL)*** a negatively biased substrate,it is found that the film thickness is the minimum,while the porosity and PL emission are the *** a positively biased substrate,the thickness and the ratio of Si/N are the maximum which correspond to a blue shift of the PL emission in comparison with the case of non-biased grounded *** addition,the characterization of the plasma using a single cylindrical Langmuir probe has been performed to obtain information about both the electron density and the positive ion energy,where it can be concluded that the ion energy plays a major role in determining film thickness.

Herein, the fabrication of cellulose acetate (CA) silica-based nanocomposite membranes via the dry-wetphase inversion procedure for water desalination was investigated. The modified and unmodified silicananoparticles (mSNPs and SNPs) were prepared by the sol-gel technique. The effect of the SNPs andmSNPs was investigated on the CA membrane's properties and their performance for water *** CA nanocomposite membranes were characterized to study their structure, hydrophilicity, andmorphology. The fabricated nanocomposite membranes showed hydrophilic surface properties. Theperformance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes was measured using a crossflow RO unit at 10 bar(1 bar = 0.1 mPa). The membrane with 10 mg of SNPs enhanced permeate water flux compared to thepristine CA membrane by 1.6 L/(m2·h). The effect of mSNPs on the nanocomposites' performance waslower than their counterpart in the case of adding SNPs. The membrane with 30 mg of mSNPs showedthe highest permeate water flux among other nanocomposite membranes with a value oAQSf 35.7 L/(m2·h)at 24 bar.

Recent years have witnessed an increase in the quantity of waste glass(WG)across the *** the fine aggregate with WG is one of the steps toward preserving the natural resources of the environment and creating low-cost *** present study is concerned with replacing fine aggregates with glass powder(GP)at(0%,15%,30%,and 50%).It has studied the fresh and hardened properties(compressive strength,tensile strength,hardened density,and slump)for all the mentioned percent *** findings have shown that all mixtures containing GP gave acceptable slump results within the design limits(2–5 cm)according to ACI standard *** has been observed that increasing the proportion of GP led to a decrease in the weight of ***,replacing GP with sand by 30%has led to an increase in the compressive strength by about 2.4%and 12.45%,and the tensile strength by about 2.5%and 26.54%at 7-and 28-d,respectively in comparison to normal concrete.
