Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are on the increase in several sectors of activity. The aim of the study was to determine the frequencies of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) and factors associated with hypertension among hotel workers in the city of Bohicon. methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted in the period from December 2018 to January 2019. The variables studied were sociodemographic, occupational, anthropometric and behavioral. Participant recruitment was exhaustive. A standardized questionnaire inspired by the sTEPs-WHO questionnaire was used for data collection. After the descriptive analysis, a bivariate analysis was performed using Pearson’s Chi-square test or Fisher’s test at the 5% threshold. Results: A total of 101 workers, 53 (52.47%) of them male, participated in the study. The mean age was 30.60 ± 8.20 years, with extremes of 18 and 55 years. The frequencies of the main risk factors were: 68.32% sitting position > 6 hours/day;38.61% shift work;21.78% high psychological demand, 82.18% low decision latitude, 24.75% low social support, 21.78% occupational stress;7 (6.93%) harmful alcohol consumption;6.93% tobacco consumption;48.51% insufficient physical activity;98.02% insufficient fruit and vegetable consumption;59.41% overweight;14.85% HTA. Factors associated with hypertension were: sex, age and marital status. Conclusion: Occupational factors need to be taken into account when assessing CVRFs. NCD control programs are needed in all sectors of activity. A larger study is needed in the hotel sector.

Prevalence and Tasks Associated with Respiratory symptoms among Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Handlers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 2019

Introduction: The uncontrolled management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (W3E) causes respiratory problems in the handlers of this waste. The objective was to study the stains associated with respiratory symptoms in W3E handlers. methods: The study was cross-sectional with an analytical focus on W3E handlers in the informal sector in Ouagadougou. A peer-validated questionnaire collected data on a sample of 161 manipulators. Results: the most common W3E processing tasks were the purchase or sale of W3E (67.70%), its repair (39.75%) and its collection (31.06%). The prevalence of cough was 21.74%, that of wheezing 14.91%, phlegm 12.50% and dyspnea at rest 10.56%. In bivariate analysis, there were significant associations at the 5% level between W3E repair and phlegm (p-value = 0.044), between W3E burning and wheezing (p-value = 0.011) and between W3E and cough (p-value = 0.01). The final logistic regression models suggested that the burning of W3E and the melting of lead batteries represented risk factors for the occurrence of cough with respective prevalence ratios of 4.57 and 4.63. Conclusion: raising awareness on the wearing of personal protective equipment, in particular masks adapted by W3E handlers, favoring those who are dedicated to the burning of electronic waste and the melting of lead could make it possible to reduce the risk of occurrence of respiratory symptoms.

Water management of Falaj al Khatmain in sultanate of Oman

Oman is an arid country with an average annual rainfall of 100 mm. Agricultural productions in Oman is almost fully dependent on irrigation. more than one third of irrigation water is supplied by aflaj （singular： falaj）, which provide 680× 10^6 m^3 of water per year and irrigate some 26,500 ha. Aflaj are trenches and tunnels, which are dug in the ground to convey water from one place to another. This study analyzed the existing management of Falaj al Khatmain and proposed improvements to the system regarding water utilization, enriching community living, distribution of water among the shareholders and the water circulation during day and night. Furthermore, the study estimated the surplus water during the wet period and determined the recharge area of groundwater using the rainfall, falaj flow, wadi flow, water table and lithology of the wells located in or around the study area. The study concluded that under the climatic and hydro-geologic conditions in the study area, the best arrangement for recharging the groundwater is an infiltration pond to store surplus water from thefalaj in the subsurface pond or reservoir without dam construction.

magma mixing Genesis of the mafic Enclaves and Related Granitoids in the Kan Granite-Gneiss Complex of Central Côte d’Ivoire: Evidence from Geology, Petrology and Geochemistry

The mafic enclaves from Paleoproterozoic domain are considered to be the results of large-scale crust-mantle interaction and magma mixing. In this paper, petrography, mineralogy and geochemistry were jointly used to determine the origin of the mafic enclaves and their relationship with the host granitoids of the Kan granite-gneiss complex. This study also provides new information on crust-mantle interactions. The mafic enclaves of the Kan vary in shape and size and have intermediate chemical compositions. The diagrams used show a number of similarities in the major elements (and often in the trace elements) between the mafic enclaves and the host granitoids. Geochemical show that the Kan rock are metaluminous, enriched in silica, medium to high-K calc-alkaline I-type granite. The similarities reflect a mixing of basic and acid magma. mafic enclaves have a typical magmatic structure, which is characterized by magma mixing. The genesis of these rocks is associated with the context of subduction. They result from the mixing of a mafic magma originating from the mantle and linked to subduction, and a granitic magma (type I granite) that arises from the partial melting of the crust.

The study is concerned with the mechanical properties of Zn and three Zn–mg double alloys with mg concentrations:0.5%,1.0%and 1.5%in the form of rods with a diameter of 5 mm as potential materials for use in biodegradable medical implants,such as vascular *** materials were cast,next conventionally hot extruded at 250°C and finally,hydrostatically extruded(HE)at ambient *** HE process was carried at liquid nitrogen temperature or in combination with the ECAP *** HE,the microstructure of the alloys was made up of fine-grainedαZn of mean grain size~1μm in a 2-phase coat of 50–200 nm nanograins of the fineαZn+mg2Zn11 *** 3 to 4-fold reduction of grain size as a result of HE allowed an increase in yield strength from 100%to over 200%,elongation to fracture from 100%to thirty fold and hardness over 50%compared to the best literature results for similar *** accounted for elongation to fracture in case of Zn-0.5 mg alloy and hardness in case of Zn-1.5 mg alloy,both of which fell by 20%.For the Zn-0.5 mg and Zn–1mg alloys,after immersion tests,no corrosive degradation of plasticity was *** these properties was the result of generating large plastic deformations at ambient temperature due to the application of high pressure forming with the cumulative HE *** results showed that Zn–mg binary alloys after HE have mechanical and corrosive characteristics,qualifying them for applications in biodegradable implants,including vascular stents.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to compare the rates of open and laparoscopic cholecystectomies and outcomes in patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2Dm) in spain from 2003 to 2013. mETHODs: We collected all cases of open and laparoscopic cholecystectomies using national hospital discharge data and evaluated the annual cholecystectomy rates stratiifed by T2Dm status. We analyzed tendency for in-hospital mortality (IHm). We also analyzed the impact of T2Dm on IHm in patients who underwent cholecystectomies. REsULTs: We identiifed 611 533 cholecystectomies (71.3%laparoscopic) in the patients, in whom 78 227 (12.8%) patients had T2Dm. The rates of open cholecystectomies were 3-fold higher (130.0/105 vs 41.1/105) in patients with T2Dm than in those without T2Dm, and the rate of laparoscopic cholecys-tectomies was almost 2-fold higher (195.2/105 vs 111.8/105) in patients with T2Dm. The annual rate of laparoscopic pro-cedures showed an 11-year relative increase of 88.3% (from 117.0/105 to 220.3/105) in T2Dm and 49.2% (from 79.2/105 to 118.2/105) in patients without T2Dm (Ps the rate of open procedures showed an 11-year relative decrease of 27.6% in patients with T2Dm and 37.9% in those without T2Dm (Pmergency laparoscopic cho-lecystectomy was increased in the 11 years, whereas the rate of emergency open cholecystectomies was decreased (both Pmultivariate analysis revealed that older age, higher comorbidity and emergency cholecystectomy were associated with a higher IHm. Compared with patients without T2Dm, patients with T2Dm demonstrated a lower IHm after open cholecystectomy [OR=0.82 (0.78-0.87)], but a higher IHm after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (OR=1.18 (1.03-1.35))Time-trend analyses showed a signiifcant reduction in IHm in patients with or without T2Dm after the two procedures. Introduction: Work-related accidents are frequent and serious in the construction sector. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and factors associated with occupational accidents on the construction site of a referral hospital in Benin. methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample size was calculated using the schwartz form adjusted for the number of workers on site and was 129 workers. Random sampling was used. The dependent variable was work-related accidents. The other variables were socio-demographic and occupational characteristics. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey. medians and proportions were calculated. An association was sought using Chi-square and Fisher tests with a threshold of p Results: A total of 132 workers were included. Their median age was 30 years with an ITQ of [27 - 38];men were the most represented 126 (95.45%) with a level of education higher than or equal to high school in 101 (76.52%) and in the majority with a permanent status 85 (64.39%). seniority of more than 5 years was observed in 92 (69.7%). Workers working more than 8 hours of overtime per week numbered 57 (43.18%). Exposure to vibrating objects was 49 (37.12%). In terms of psychosocial constraints, 82.58% had high psychological demands;79.53% low decision-making latitude;50.76% low social support. The frequency of work-related accidents was 6.82%, and the only associated factor was the type of worker (p = 0.016). On the other hand, there were 10.2% accidents among workers handling vibrating objects versus 4.98% among those not using them. With regard to psychosocial constraints, the following frequencies were recorded respectively: 6.42% among those with high psychological demand versus 8.7% among those with low psychological demand;7.62% among those with low decision-making latitude versus 3.7% among those with high decision-making latitude;8.96% among those with low social support versus 4.62% among those with high support. Influence of Agricultural Activity on Nitrogen Budget in Chinese and Japanese Watersheds

To analyze the effect of agricultural activity on nitrogen(N) budget at the watershed scale,a comparative study was conducted at two Japanese watersheds,the shibetsu River watershed(sRW) and Upper-Naka River watershed(UNRW),and one Chinese watershed,the Jurong Reservoir watershed(JRW).The total area and the proportion of agricultural area(in parentheses) of the watersheds were 685(51%),1 299(21%),and 46 km 2(55%) for sRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** main agricultural land use in sRW was forage grassland,while paddy fields occupied the highest proportion of cropland in UNRW(11% of total area) and JRW(31% of total area).The farmland surplus N was 61,48,and 205 kg N ha 1 year 1 for sRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** total input and output for the whole watershed were 89 and 76,83 and 61,and 353 and 176 kg N ha 1 year 1 for sRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** proportion of discharged N to net anthropogenic N input was 31%,37%,and 1.7% for sRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** two watersheds in Japan showed similar proportions of discharged N to those of previous reports,while the watershed in China(JRW) showed a totally different characteristic compared to previous *** high N input in JRW did not increase the amount of discharged N at the outlet of the watershed due to high proportions of paddy fields and water bodies,which was an underestimated N sink at the landscape scale.
