Outer retinal tubulation in diabetic macular edema following anti-VEGF treatment

Background:To address the presence and features of outer retinal tubulation(ORT)found in diabetic macular edema(DmE)treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF)and to differentiate between ORT and cystoid DmE,which have different plans of ***:This was a retrospective review of a total of 514 patients investigated with spectral domain optical coherence tomography(OCT)in patients with diabetic macular edema treated with *** was seen in 12 eyes of 11 *** morphologic characteristics of ORT and its progress over time were examined using OCT *** retinal images were obtained by horizontal and vertical scans to analyze the possible presence of ORT and to explore their morphologic features and location in the retinal ***:ORT was seen in DmE treated with *** was shown as round or ovoid hyporeflective spaces with hyperreflective borders on the B-scans,measuring 30 to 120μm high and 30 to 1775μm *** tubules generally remained stable over *** a retinal practice specializing in advanced diabetic retinopathy clinic,this ORT was seen in 12 eyes of 11 patients during a 12-month *** presented either after receiving 0.05 mL open-label intravitreal injections of 0.5 mg ranibizumab or 1.25 mg ***:ORT is found in DmE treated with anti-VEGF that may show damage to the outer retina secondary to the severity and chronicity of the *** may be a result of underlying chronic and severe diabetic macular edema that may occur later possibly secondary to retinal layers rearrangement after several anti-VEGF *** is important to differentiate between ORT and cystoids *** presence of the ORT entity alone without the presence of DmE does not require further anti-VEGF re-injections.

A comparative study is carried out for the nonlinear propagation of ion acoustic shock waves both for the weakly and highly relativistic plasmas consisting of relativistic ions and qdistributed electrons and *** Burgers equation is derived to reveal the physical phenomena using the well known reductive perturbation *** integration of the Burgers equation is performed by the（G￠/G）-expansion *** effects of positron concentration,ion–electron temperature ratio,electron–positron temperature ratio,ion viscosity coefficient,relativistic streaming factor and the strength of the electron and positron nonextensivity on the nonlinear propagation of ion acoustic shock and periodic waves are presented graphically and the relevant physical explanations are provided.

Tie-line Power Flow Control method for Gridconnected microgrids with SmES Based on Optimization and Fuzzy Logic

In an active distribution grid,renewable energy sources(RESs)such as photovoltaic(PV)and energy storage systems(e.g.,superconducting magnetic energy storage(SmES))can be combined with consumers to compose a microgrid(mG).The high penetration of PV causes high fluctuations of tie-line power flow and highly affects power system *** can lead to several technical problems such as voltage fluctuations and excessive power *** this paper,a fuzzy logic control based SmES method(FSm)and an optimized fuzzy logic control based SmES method(OFSm)are proposed for minimizing the tie-line power ***,the fluctuations and transmission power losses are *** FSm,SmES is used with a robust fuzzy logic controller(FLC)for controlling the tie-line power *** optimization model is employed in OFSm to simultaneously optimize the input parameters of the FLC and the reactive power of the voltage source converter(VSC)of *** objective function of minimizing the tieline power flow is incorporated into the optimization *** swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm is utilized to solve the optimization problem while the constraints of the utility power grid,VSC,and SmES are *** simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed methods.

Defects in materials significantly alter their electronic and structural properties,which affect the per-formance of electronic devices,structural alloys,and functional ***,calculating all the possible defects in complex materials with conventional Density Functional Theory(DFT)can be compu-tationally *** enhance the efficiency of these calculations,we interfaced Density Functional Tight Binding(DFTB)with the Clusters Approach to Statistical mechanics(CASm)software package for the first *** SiC and ZnO as representative examples,we show that DFTB gives accurate results and can be used as an efficient computational approach for calculating and pre-screening formation ener-gies/convex *** DFTB+CASm implementation allows for an efficient exploration(up to an order of magnitude faster than DFT)of formation energies and convex hulls,which researchers can use to probe other complex systems.

A computer-based image analysis for tear ferning featuring

The present work focuses on the development of a novel computer-based approach for tear ferning(TF)*** original TF images of the recently developedfive-point grading scale have been used to assign a grade for any TF image automatically.A vector characteristic(VC)representing each grade was built using the reference images.A weighted combination between features selected from textures analysis using gray level co-occurrence matrix(GLCm),power spectrum(PS)analysis and linear specificity of the image were used to build the VC of each grade.A total of 14 features from texture analysis were *** at di®erent frequency points and number of line segments in each image were also *** features from GLCm have shown significant di®erences between the recently developed grading scale images which are:angular second moment at 0and 45,contrast,and correlation at 0and 45;thesefive features were all included in the characteristic *** specific power frequencies were used in the VC because of the discrimination *** of line segments was also chosen because of dissimilarities between images.A VC for each grade of TF reference images was constructed and was found to be significantly different from each other'*** is a basic and fundamental step toward an automatic grading for computer-based diagnosis for dry eye.

Effects of transpiration on unsteady mHD flow of an upper convected maxwell (UCm) fluid passing through a stretching surface in the presence of a first order chemical reaction

The aim of this article is to present the effects of transpiration on the unsteady two-dimensional boundary layer flow of non-Newtonian fluid passing through a stretching sheet in the presence of a first order constructive/destructive chemical reaction. The upper-convected maxwell （UCm） model is used here to characterize the non-Newtonian behavior of the fluid. Using similarity solutions, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary ones and are then solved numerically by the shooting method. The flow fields and mass transfer are significantly influenced by the governing parameters. The fluid velocity initially decreases as the unsteadiness parameter increases and the concentration decreases significantly due to the increase in the unsteadiness. The effect of increasing values of transpiration （suction） and the maxwell parameter is to suppress the velocity field; however, the concentration is enhanced as transpiration （suction） and the maxwell parameter increase. Also, it is found that the fluid velocity decreases as the magnetic parameter increases; however, the concentration increases in this case.

Heat Transfer Augmentation in Developing Flow Through a Ribbed Square Duct

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the heat transfer augmentation in developing turbulent flow through a ribbed square duct. The duct is made of 16ram thick bakelite sheet. The bottom surface of the ribbed wall having rib pitch to height ratio of 10 is heated by passing a c current to the heater placed under it. The uniform heating is controlled using a digital temperature controller and a variac. The results of ribbed duct are compared with the results of a smooth duct under the same experimental conditions. It is observed that the heat transfer augmentation in ribbed duct is better than that of the smooth duct. At Re=5.0× 10^4 , the mean temperature of air flowing through the ribbed duct increases by 2.45 percent over the smooth duct, whereas in the fibbed duct Nusselt number increases by 15.14 percent than that of the smooth duct with a 6 percent increase in pressure drop.

First Report of Tumor-Like Anomalies on the Copepods and their Seasonality from the Obhur Creek, Jeddah Coast, Central Red Sea

monthly abundance of the subclass Copepoda was analyzed from the zooplankton samples collected at Obhur Creek, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia during December-2011 till December-2012. Zooplankton samples were collected through surface horizontal tows by a modified WP2 net(via. mouth diameter 50 cm, length 180 cm, 150 μm mesh size). Order Calanoida dominated the abundance with mean annual average of 75.29%. We observed abnormal protuberances on copepods, known as tumour-like anomalies(TLAs). Calanoida showed more frequent and prominent TLAs on its dorsal surface with highest mean percentage occurring during Jun. 2012(1.64%). The percentage prevalence of TLAs on the Copepoda was highest during Jun. 2012(1.36%) and least during Nov. 2012(0.03%). It is suggested that these TLAs might be caused due to the presence of potentially high levels of toxic substances, which weakens the exoskeleton and thereby making them more susceptible to infections or due to wounds from parasites or might be related to the occurrence of symbiotic tantulocarids or might be due to the radiation stress as a control measure. Whatever the reason, these TLAs have become a serious emerging threat to the aquatic food web. Our investigation is the first of its kind in the coastal waters of the Saudi Red Sea, which needs further investigations in order to elucidate the possible reasons for these abnormalities.
