Row spacing has a pivotal role in enhancing sugarcane yield and improving its quality. A study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of different planting techniques on performance of sugarcane at Agronomic Research Area, Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture Faisalabad during Kharif 2014. Experimental treatments comprised of: 180 cm spaced trenches with tripple row strips, 180 cm spaced trenches with alternate row strips, 120 cm spaced trenches with double row strips and 60 cm spaced furrows with single rows. Sugarcane cultivar HSF-240 was used as experimental material. The experimental was conducted in RCBD with four replications. The expeimental results revealed that sugarcane number of tillers, plant height, cane length, stripped cane weight and stripped cane yield increased progressively with the increase in row spacing from 60 to 180 cm. While germination percentage and number of millable canes were not affected by different sowing techniques, maximum number of tillers (15.96 m-2), plant height (333.25 cm), stripped cane weight (0.94 kg) and stripped cane yield (107 t·ha-1) were recorded from 180 cm spaced trenches with tripple row strips.

In order to study the effect of salts stress on the growth and yield of wheat (cv. Inqalab), a pot experiment was conducted in the wire-house of the Department of Soil Science, Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam. The soil was artificially salinized to a range of salinity levels i.e . EC 2.16, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 dS·m-1 with different salts (mgCl2 + CaCl2 + Na2SO4). The salinized soil used for the experiment was sandy clay in texture, alkaline in reaction (pH > 7.0) and moderate in organic matter (0.95%) content. The results showed that with increasing salinity there was an increase in the ECe, Na+, Ca2+, mg2+ and Cl- and decrease in the K+, SAR and ESP values of the soil Increasing salinity, progressively decreased plant height, spike length, number of spikelets spike-1 1000 grain weight and yield (straw and grain). adverse effects of salts on plants were associated with the accumulation of less K+ and more Na+ and Cl- in their flag leaf sap, grains and straw. This resulted in lower K+:5Na+ ratio in flag leaf sap, grains and straw of wheat plants. These results indicated that the effects of salts stress were greater at 10 than at 8, 6 and 4 EC dS·m-1.

目的采用基因检测和电生理功能分析诊断长QT综合征（LQTS）患者,发现有潜在患病风险的家系成员,以提供临床评估与适当的治疗.方法采集和分析1例LQTS患儿及所在家系成员的临床资料.同时选择200例具有相同种族背景的健康个体作为正常对照.聚合酶链式反应（PCR）扩增LQTS先证者候选基因KCNQ1、KCNH2和SCN5A外显子及附近上下游序列,直接测序并进行分析.如发现突变,进一步采用全细胞膜片钳技术对该突变进行电生理功能分析,并对其家系成员进行特定突变基因筛查,寻找基因变异及评估其发生心脏性猝死风险.结果先证者12导联常规心电图初步诊断为LQTS.临床上给予美托洛尔（25 mg、2次/d）治疗,患者服药第3天于午饭时猝死.基因检测发现先证者SCN5A基因上存在一个杂合子错义突变（V411m）,在正常对照组该位点未发现基因突变.与野生型相比,V411m突变型钠通道表现为峰值钠电流[（230.8±27.6） pA/pF比（101.2±10.9）pA/pF,n=10,P＜0.01]及晚钠电流[（156.6±13.6） pA/pF比（95.9±7.9） pA/pF,n=12,P＜0.01]增加.测试脉冲电压在-50 mV时,V411m突变型的钠通道激活数目明显多于野生型（85.0％±7.4％比41.5％±2.6％,P＜0.01）.V411m突变型稳态激活曲线左移,而稳态失活曲线无明显变化.另外,其他家系成员进行SCN5A基因检测发现,先证者母亲、外祖母为无症状突变携带者,给予适当临床评估及长期随访.先证者的同卵双生姐姐及姨妈死于婴儿猝死综合征.结论首次在国人LQTS患者SCN5A基因上报道一个杂合子错义突变（V411m）.V411 m突变导致钠离子通道蛋白的“功能增强”效应,构成3型LQTS的发病基础.基因检测和电生理功能分析有助于明确LQTS患者及其家系成员的疾病诊断,并提供重要临床评估与治疗,预防心脏性猝死的发生.

Rice (Oryza sativa) is the second staple food largely grown and widely consumed in Pakistan. About 10% of the total crop area of Pakistan is cultivated by rice that takes a part in value addition of almost 1.3% - 1.6% in the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Due to global warming, temperature has a profound impact on rice crop phenology. Low temperature is the main factor of delay in rice plant growth and very high temperature results in stressed and short heighted plant so the crop sown in a region at the same time is not ready to harvest at same hours but a delay is observed. The study area under investigation was district Sheikhupura, Nankana, Lahore, Gujranawala and Hafizabad, which are famous for rice productivity. Landsat 7, 8 freely available thermal dataset are used to calculated pixel based temperature values to evaluate growth using agricultural growth indicators. The total covered area was 13,480 km2 in which 484 km2 area was marked as less growth rate area with low temperature values due to water body and excess of vegetation over there. About 7960 km2 area is marked as good for growth experiencing optimum temperature for rice plant. Approximately 4944 km2 area is marked as stressed rice plant area experiencing high temperature values adjacent to urban population. An attempt is made here to map this effect of temperature-based growth variability of the rice plant across the study area.

【目的】阐明玉米-大豆带状间作下大豆植株冠层在不同种植密度下的光环境变化规律,明确种植密度对间作大豆叶片光合特性、产量形成及茎秆抗倒的影响,为构建寡日照地区间作大豆合理群体密度提供理论参考。【方法】本研究以大豆(川豆-16)和玉米(正红-505)为试验材料。采用双因素随机区组设计,主因素为种植方式,设玉米-大豆带状间作和大豆带状单作2个水平,副因素为大豆的3个种植密度(PD1=17株/m~2,PD2=20株/m~2,PD3=25株/m~2),研究种植密度对间作大豆冠层内部光环境变化、叶片光合特性、植株生长动态、田间倒伏率及产量构成等的影响。【结果】2年结果表明,在玉米-大豆带状间作系统中,大豆生长中后期受高位作物玉米遮荫和自荫性增加的影响,其植株群体冠层内部的光合有效辐射(PAR)、叶面积指数(LAI)、叶片光合能力、分枝数及产量显著降低,但受玉米影响的程度因大豆种植密度的不同而不同。在间作模式下,PD1和PD2处理的大豆植株群体冠层光合有效辐射比PD3处理分别增加了45.4%和24.8%,净光合速率分别增加了46.1%和12.3%,单株有效荚数分别增加了53.2%和27.2%,单株分枝数分别增加了270.4%和140.9%,田间倒伏率分别降低了50.3%和19.3%。相关性分析发现,间作大豆的田间倒伏率与冠层内部光合有效辐射、叶片净光合速率、茎秆抗折力、茎叶干物质比、单株分枝数及单株有效荚数呈显著负相关,与株高、叶面积指数和单株无效荚数呈显著正相关。【结论】在玉米-大豆带状间作模式下,20株/m~2的大豆密度(PD2)有利于创造良好的群体冠层内部光环境,降低植株田间大豆倒伏率,增加光合产物积累,从而提高大豆产量。

One of the main reasons behind reduced cane yield is pathetic method of planting. Planting method and row spacing are the most important yield contributing factors in sugarcane. A field experiment was carried out in order to determine quality and yield of sugarcane in various spatial arrangements. Treatments are 180 cm spaced trenches with triple row strips;180 cm spaced trenches with alternate row strips;120 cm spaced trenches with double row strips and 60 cm spaced furrow with single row. Perusal of data revealed that 3.6%, 13.4%, 15%, 15.3% more cane diameter (cm), cane length (cm), stripped cane yield (t·haˉ1), sugar yield (t·haˉ1) were obtained from 180 cm spaced trenches with triple row strips as compared to conventional planting method i.e. 60 cm spaced furrows. While the number of millable canes mˉ2, polarity %, cane juice purity %, cane juice %, commercial cane sugar % and cane sugar recovery % remained non-significant by different planting techniques.

Significance of the number of positive cervical lymph nodes in resected early T stage squamous cell carcinoma of the oral tongue

Purpose: Neck node metastasis in squamous cell carcinoma of the oral tongue (SCCOT) is a recognized prognostic factor。However, the significance between number of positive nodes and survival is still not defined。This study was conducted to determine the impact of number of pathologically positive nodes on survival in patients with T1-2 SCCOT。methods: Between August 2004 and September 2007, 50 patients with Tl-2 SCCOT treated with curative surgery at Shaukat Khanum memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre were analyzed retrospectively。m 50%:F 50% (range 15—68 years)。All patients underwent partial glossectomy with neck dissection。Neck dissection was ipsilateral in 46 patients (92%) and bilateral in 4 patients (8%)。Forty four (88%) percent had post operative radiotherapy。Patients were divided in to 3 subgroups to determine the significance of number of positive nodes on survival: node negative (GroupⅠ), 1 - 3 positive nodes (GroupⅡ) and 4 or more nodes (Group III)。Results: AJCC stage was pTlpN0 31%, pT1pN+ 18%, pT2pN0 27% and pT2pN+ 24%。A total of 2230 cervical lymph nodes were analysed。Number of nodes in levelⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,ⅣandⅤwas 387, 721,465, 562 and 25 respectively。The mean and median number of nodes removed was 44 and 41 respectively。Twenty nine (58%) patients had NO (GroupⅠ), 15 (30%) patients had 1 to 3 positive lymph nodes (GroupⅡ) and 6 (12%) had 4 or more positive cervical lymph nodes(GroupⅢ)。Kaplan meier estimate for 3 year disease free survival (DFS) for GroupⅠ,ⅡandⅢwas 71%, 48% and 0% respectively (P=-0.004)。DFS for the whole group was 57%。Conclusion: Increasing number of pathologically positive cervical lymph node metastasis has an inverse influence on survival。In patients with 4 or more positive nodes aggressive adjuvant post operative treatment with radiation and chemotherapy should be considered as the prognosis is poor。
