Comparison of few-layer Graphene Prepared from Natural Graphite through fast Synthesis Approach

We report the synthesis of high quality few-layer graphene on a large scale using high purity natural graphite from Sri Lanka. A novel thermal method was adapted to prepare graphene from intermediate graphite oxide, which was obtained by heating the intermediate at low temperature （above 150 ℃） in air for 5 min and subsequent heating at 500℃ in Argon for 15 min. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spec- troscopy etc. The properties and the performance of graphene were observed to depend on the graphite source. The reduced graphite oxide from Kahatagaha graphite source exhibits higher Brunauer-Emmett- Teller specific surface area -500 m^2 g^-1 and stable specific capacity as an anode in Li-ion batteries, whereas Bogala graphite showed higher initial irreversibility and higher capacity as anode, exceeding the theo- retical specific capacity of graphite. Both graphenes showed high electrical conductivity. The graphene, which exists in stacks of only a few layers, supposed to be 2-6 layers, would be promising for a vast variety of applications.

This paper studied the efficiency of electrocoagulation/electroflotation in removing colour from real textile wastewater by using aluminum and iron electrodes in an innovative pilot external-loop airlift reactor of 150 L. The reactor was designed to operate in batch and continuous modes. The real effluent contained 90% of disperse dye and 10% of reactive dye. A complete flotation of pollutants with acceptable mixing was achieved in this reactor using only the overall liquid recirculation induced by h2 microbubbles. The treatment of these discharges was easier using electrodes of iron rather than aluminum. The optimal initial ph was 10 for both aluminum and iron electrodes. By using iron electrodes, the maximum decolourisation efficiency and COD reduction efficiency reached respectively 96% and 65% for 90 minutes of treatment. Similarly, by using aluminum electrodes, the maximum decolourisation efficiency reached 90%, COD reduction reached 51% for 120 minutes of treatment. In the case of an initial ph slightly different to 10, the required time to reach 90% ranged from double to triple.

The structure and magnetic properties of the Yfe12-xTix compounds (x=0.85, 1.00, 1.10, 1.20 and 1.30) have been investigated. Both the thermomagnetic analysis and X-ray diffraction patterns show that all compounds studied are almost single phase and crystallize in the Thmn12-type structure. The lattice parameters a, c and unit cell volume V increase monotonously with the increase of Ti content. Curie temperature Tc is almost independent on the Ti content while the spontaneous magnetization m0, the anisotropy field Ba and the anisotropy constant K1 decrease monotonously with the increase of Ti content and the temperature increases from 1.5 K to 293 K.

The quantitative estimation of amikacin （AmK） in AmK sulfate injection samples is reported using fTIR-derivative spectrometric method in a continuous flow system. fourier transform of mid-IR spectra were recorded without any sample pretreatment. A good linear calibration （r40.999, %RSDo 2.0） in the range of 7.7-77.0 mg/mL was found. The results showed a good correlation with the manufacturer＇s and overall they all fell within acceptable limits of most pharmacopoeial monographs on AmK sulfate.

Extreme storm tide usually causes flooding of low-lying land in a coastal city. hence, developing an efficient and accurate forecasting model for issuing a timely warning is important. In this study, an adaptive Kalman filter-based storm tide forecasting model was proposed and applied to the inner harbor of macau. The model is a dynamic linear regression model with the harmonic tidal prediction, wind speed, wind direction and atmospheric pressure as its input parameters. With persistence forecast of weather assumed during the prediction period, the model was tested with 40 cases of storm tide induced by tropical cyclones in macau between 2005 and 2012. Success was found for forecasts with lead times up to 3 hours. The proposed adaptive model is considered a practical tool for storm tide forecast in small coastal cities.

The adsorption state and catalytic properties of pepsin and acidic protease from microorganisms Asp. awamori and Asp. oryzae were studied in solid phase system （in presence of sorsilen, DEAE- and Cm-cellulose）. According to the results, adsorption capacity and catalytic activity of enzymes depend on the physical nature of surface groups of the solid phase. Changing the stability of enzymes in the system with solid phase is observed even the adsorption bond is less stable （in the case of DEAE- and Cm-cellulose in acidic media）. Injection to the medium ethanol, surfactants, sodium chloride and changing the temperature of the incubation medium could prevent the negative effects of the solid phases. When sorsilen is used as solid phase, pepsin and acidic protease from Asp. awamori suffer from high surface inactivation. Various surfactants influence adsorption state of enzymes differently. Non-ionic surfactants （Triton X-100） prevent adsorption and restore catalytic properties of enzymes.

A high energy and high yield neutron source is a prime requirement for technological studies related to fusion reactor development. It provides a high-energy neutron environment for small-scale fusion reactor components research and testing such as tritium breeding, shielding, plasmafacing materials, reaction cross-section data study for fusion materials, etc. Along with ITER participation, the Institute of Plasma Research, India is developing an accelerator-based 14 meV neutron source with a yield of 10^(12)n s^(-1). The design of the source is based on the deuterium–tritium fusion reaction. The deuterium beam is accelerated and delivered to the tritium target to generate 14 meV neutrons. The deuterium beam energy and tritium availability in the tritium target are the base parameters of the accelerator-based neutron source design. The paper gives the physics design of the neutron generator facility of the Institute for Plasma Research. It covers the requirements, design basis, and physics parameters of the neutron generator. As per the analytical results generator can produce more than 1 × 10^(12)n s^(-1)with a 110 keV D^(+) ion beam of 10 mA and a minimum 5 Ci tritium target. however, the detailed simulation with the more realistic conditions of deuteron ion interaction with the tritium titanium target shows that the desired results cannot be achieved with 110 keV. The safe limit of the ion energy should be 300 keV as per the simulation. At 300 keV ion energy and 20 mA current, it reaches 1.6 × 10^(12)n s^(-1). moreover, it was found that to ensure sufficiently long operation time a tritium target of more than 20 Ci should be used. The scope of the neutron source is not limited to the fusion reactor research studies, it is extended to other areas such as medical radioisotopes research, semiconductor devices irradiations, and many more.
