Pancreato-biliary malignancies often present with locally advanced or metastatic *** is the mainstay of treatment although less than 20%of tumours are suitable for resection at *** sites for metastases are liver,lungs,lymph nodes and peritoneal *** disease carries poor prognosis,with median survival of less than 3 *** report two cases where metastases from pancreato-biliary cancers were identified in the colon and anal *** both cases specific immunohistochemical staining was utilised in the *** the first case,the pre-senting complaint was obstructive jaundice due to an ampullary tumour for which a pancreato-duodenectomy was carried ***,the patient re-presented 4wk later with an atypical anal fissure which was found to be metastatic deposit from the primary ampullary *** the second case,the patient presented with obstructive jaundice due to a biliary *** imaging revealed sigmoid thickening,which was confirmed to be a metastatic *** colonic and anorectal metastases from pancreatobiliary cancers are rare and can masquerade as primary colorectal *** key to the diagnosis is the specific immunohistochemical profile of the intestinal lesion biopsies.

Desert rhizoliths are generally found as weathered,broken and scattered samples on dune field surface,but rarely insitu in their initial states buried under the soil of desert in the Badain Jaran Desert,northwest *** study off ers an assessment of the morphological,mineralogical,and chemical properties of intact and in-situ rhizoliths found in soils of swales and depressions among dune *** characteristics of these rare and precious objects were assessed using optical polarizing microscopy,cathodoluminescence,scanning electronic microscopy,radiocarbon dating,and stable isotopic analyses,providing the opportunity for discussion of the rhizolith formation mechanisms and associated environmental *** and laboratory investigations showed that the in-situ intact rhizoliths were formed only in the places where Artemisia shrubs are living,and the remaining root relicts within rhizoliths belong to this *** spatial distribution of rhizoliths also suggested that low topographic positions on a landscape provided soil moisture,and redox environments favored rhizolith formation.A semi-closed redox environment in the subsoil at swales and depressions,where water is always present,along with the sandy soil texture,facilitated fast water percolation to deeper depths and *** a soil environment not only provides water for Artemisia growth,but also for the weathering of minerals such as felspars and calcite from primary carbonates,and for the decomposition of root ***,harsh climatic conditions,such as strong winds and solar radiation,led to water evaporation through dead root channels and triggered the calcification along the root *** entrapped lithogenic carbonates and to a lesser extent the decomposition of Artemisia roots provided the carbon sources for the rhizoliths formation,while the weathering of soil minerals,particularly feldspars and carbonates,was the main source of *** in the Badain Jaran des

AIm： To determine whether different intravitreal doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin lead to electroretinographic or histological changes in the rabbit retina over one month period after injection. mETHODS： Eighteen New Zealand white rabbits were divided into three treatment groups （groups 1 to 3） and different intravitreal doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin were tested in each group. The right eye was injected with the drug and the left eye received intravitreal injection of 5% dextrose water and served as control eye. The doses delivered to each group were 0.1 mg/0.1 mL, 1 mg/0.1 mL and 10 mg/0.1 mL. Simultaneous, bilateral, dark-adapted electroretinography and clinical images of both eyes were obtained in all groups before injection （baseline） and after 7, 14, 21 and 28d, followed by enucleation for histological examination. RESULTS： Subjects in the group 1 showed no signs of toxicity in the electroretinogram when compared with groups 2 and 3 （Kruskall-Wallis test, P=0.000）. By day 7, no electrical response to light stimuli was recorded in the treated eyes in groups 2 and 3, consistent with severe damage due to retinal toxicity. Light microscopy revealedno significant histopathological changes in the group 1, while rabbits in groups 2 and 3 had signs of granulomatous inflammation in most cases. CONCLUSION： Intravitreal 0.1 mg/0.1 mL doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin do not lead to electroretinographic or histological signs of retinal toxicity compared with 1 mg/0.1 mL and 10 mg/O.1 mL in this rabbit model.

manufacture of Industrial Refractory Crucibles Based on Clays from Burkina Faso

In Burkina Faso, one of the three largest gold producers in West Africa, foundry activity is often paralyzed when basic equipment such as crucibles and cups are not available or should be imported. However, previous studies have shown the availability of kaolinite-rich clay resources that could be used for the local manufacture of silico-aluminous ceramic crucibles. This work allowed to manufacture industrial ceramic crucibles with local clays and then they were tested in foundry industry. The materials were manufactured from three (03) raw materials including two clays (SAB and ROU) and sand. The chemical and mineral analysis has shown that the raw materials are suitable for the formulation of refractory materials. The results of characterization of the materials formulated showed that the properties of use are appreciable. The porosity of the materials is relatively low (23 - 28 vol%) with a diametral compressive strength between 0.61 and 1.34 mPa. Crucibles sintered at 1250˚C with a stay of 2 hours have a mechanical strength capable of supporting the weight of the ores contained. These crucibles have a refractoriness under load (T0.5) above 1141˚C and resist chemical attacks. Tests were carried out in the industry at 1100˚C, and the results were satisfactory.
