Safety of intravitreal quinupristin/dalfopristin in an animal model

AIm： to determine whether different intravitreal doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin lead to electroretinographic or histological changes in the rabbit retina over one month period after injection. mEtHODS： Eighteen New Zealand white rabbits were divided into three treatment groups （groups 1 to 3） and different intravitreal doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin were tested in each group. the right eye was injected with the drug and the left eye received intravitreal injection of 5% dextrose water and served as control eye. the doses delivered to each group were 0.1 mg/0.1 mL, 1 mg/0.1 mL and 10 mg/0.1 mL. Simultaneous, bilateral, dark-adapted electroretinography and clinical images of both eyes were obtained in all groups before injection （baseline） and after 7, 14, 21 and 28d, followed by enucleation for histological examination. RESULtS： Subjects in the group 1 showed no signs of toxicity in the electroretinogram when compared with groups 2 and 3 （Kruskall-Wallis test, P=0.000）. By day 7, no electrical response to light stimuli was recorded in the treated eyes in groups 2 and 3, consistent with severe damage due to retinal toxicity. Light microscopy revealedno significant histopathological changes in the group 1, while rabbits in groups 2 and 3 had signs of granulomatous inflammation in most cases. CONCLUSION： Intravitreal 0.1 mg/0.1 mL doses of quinupristin/dalfopristin do not lead to electroretinographic or histological signs of retinal toxicity compared with 1 mg/0.1 mL and 10 mg/O.1 mL in this rabbit model.

manufacture of Industrial Refractory Crucibles Based on Clays from Burkina Faso

In Burkina Faso, one of the three largest gold producers in West Africa, foundry activity is often paralyzed when basic equipment such as crucibles and cups are not available or should be imported. However, previous studies have shown the availability of kaolinite-rich clay resources that could be used for the local manufacture of silico-aluminous ceramic crucibles. this work allowed to manufacture industrial ceramic crucibles with local clays and then they were tested in foundry industry. the materials were manufactured from three (03) raw materials including two clays (SAB and ROU) and sand. the chemical and mineral analysis has shown that the raw materials are suitable for the formulation of refractory materials. the results of characterization of the materials formulated showed that the properties of use are appreciable. the porosity of the materials is relatively low (23 - 28 vol%) with a diam.tral compressive strength between 0.61 and 1.34 mPa. Crucibles sintered at 1250˚C with a stay of 2 hours have a mechanical strength capable of supporting the weight of the ores contained. these crucibles have a refractoriness under load (t0.5) above 1141˚C and resist chemical attacks. tests were carried out in the industry at 1100˚C, and the results were satisfactory.

Posturodynamic 6 test: A New Scoring method for Effective Communication of Results

Background: Posturodynamic 6 (PDN-6) is a clinical assessment of posture that merges the Clinical Posturodynamic test and the Pelvic maintain test. Current scoring system does not fulfill all our needs and requirements mostly because the same numeric score might reflect 28 different possible combinations of postural dysfunction in terms of anatomic region and laterality. Objective: We propose a new scoring method for the PDN-6 that would not change the clinical methods for the PDN-6 assessment. Specifically, new scoring method would clearly indicate specific patterns of postural dysfunction while still enabling statistical analyses. methods: We developed a new scoring method for the PDN-6 without changing the instrument’s clinical procedures. We qualitatively assessed the validity of the new scoring system to detail specific patterns of postural dysfunction in terms of anatomic region and laterality. Results: New scoring method successfully deals with limitations of the previous scoring method. the new method enables clinicians to differentiate among 2 or more patients who might have very different patterns of postural dysfunction while still having the same numeric score using the previous scoring. the new scoring method provides quantitative data that are easily translated in terms of anatomic region and laterality for the postural dysfunctions that are present. Patient behavioral improvements are quantified, documented and interpreted with a change in score, and the exact nature of the improvements can be determined in terms of anatomic location and laterality. Rash analyses can also be used for statistical analyses. Conclusion: PDN-6 new scoring method provides quantitative data that provide more specific information about a patient’s postural deficits and any changes in their postural dysfunction over time without changing the clinical assessment methods.
