The current study used RP-HPLC to compare phytochemicals and estimate the bioactive constituents found in Stevia rebaudiana Bert.(SRB)leaves collected from two different geographical *** leaves were collected from Bangalore,Karnataka,India,and Reduit,*** were prepared using ethanol and aqueous sol*** analysis was used to evaluate moisture content,ash values,crude fibers,and extractive *** that,preliminary phytochemical screening was done on both ethanol leaves extracts,and subsequently total flavonoid content was *** addition,TLC chromatograms and RP-HPLC studies were performed on both plant extracts to determine the presence of flavonoid components in both leaves extracts,followed by in vitro anti-diabetic activity was performed with alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase enzymes against Acarbose as *** revealed that both the extracts from two different geographical sources varied significantly with the yield,content of chemicals,and presence of quercetin(flavonoid)content when estimated through the RP-HPLC standardized ***,flavonoids,proteins,steroids,saponins,terpenoids,and phenols were found in various concentrations during phytochemical *** both zones,the ethanol leaves extract of SRB taken from mauritius had a greater content of phytochemicals and a higher yield than other extracts due to the soil *** mauritius sample had greater total flavonoid levels as well as more quercetin(0.92±0.011)than the other *** that,ethanol extract inhibited enzymes(alpha amylase,alpha glucosidases)more than aqueous extract,and this inhibition was dose *** them,the mauritius ethanol sample showed higher anti-diabetic efficacy than the Indian sample,but this difference was not ***,SRB ethanol leaves extracts outperformed other leaves extracts in terms of yield,phytoconstituents,and total flavo***,both SRB samples had high querce

A multilevel pan-cancer map links gene mutations to cancer hallmarks

Background:A central challenge in cancer research is to create models that bridge the gap between the molecular level on which interventions can be designed and the cellular and tissue levels on which the disease phenotypes are *** study was undertaken to construct such a model from functional annotations and explore its use when integrated with large-scale cancer genomics ***:We created a map that connects genes to cancer hallmarks via signaling *** projected gene mutation and focal copy number data from various cancer types onto this *** performed statistical analyses to uncover mutually exclusive and co-occurring oncogenic aberrations within this ***:Our analysis showed that although the genetic fingerprint of tumor types could be very different,there were less variations at the level of hallmarks,consistent with the idea that different genetic alterations have similar functional ***,we showed how the multilevel map could help to clarify the role of infrequently mutated genes,and we demonstrated that mutually exclusive gene mutations were more prevalent in pathways,whereas many co-occurring gene mutations were associated with hallmark ***:Overlaying this map with gene mutation and focal copy number data from various cancer types makes it possible to investigate the similarities and differences between tumor samples systematically at the levels of not only genes but also pathways and hallmarks.

Radioactivity and mineralogy of the altered granites of the Wadi Ghadir shear zone, South Eastern Desert, Egypt

Quartz-diorite, gneissose granodiorites, two-mica granite and perthite leucogranie are the main rock units cropping out in the Wadi Ghadir area, South Eastern Desert of Egypt. Along the NNE-SSW mega-faults, a broad brittle shear zone is developed in the Ghadir two-mica granite. Brittle deformation is manifested by severe myloniti-zation and alteration of these granites. These sheared altered granites are characterized by the presence of radioactive mineralization, associated with alteration features such as silicification, hematization and kaolinitization. Radioelement measurements revealed that the unaltered and altered two-mica granites are considered as uraniferous granites. The average uranium and thorium contents in the unaltered two-mica granites are 12.29×10-6 and 19.81×10-6, respectively, and the average Th/U ratio is 1.62. The altered granites exhibit higher concentrations of U (averaging 97.949), but have lower Th and Th/U ratios (13.83 and 0.16, respectively), which indicates uranium enrichment in the granites. Binary relations of eTh/eU against either eU or eTh and eU with eTh in the studied gran-ites suggest that the distribution of radioactive elements not only magmatic (positive correlation between eU and eTh), but also due to hydrothermal redistribution of radioelements (weak correlation between eU and eTh/eU). The magmatic U and Th are indicated by the presence of uraninite, thorite, zircon and monazite whereas the evidence of hydrothermal mineralization is the alteration of rock-forming minerals such as feldspar and the forma-tion of secondary minerals such as uranophane and pyrite. microscopic, XRD and scanning electron microscopic studies revealed the presence of uraninite, uranophane, thorite, Ce-monazite and zircon, in addition to phlogopite-fluor mica in the studied altered granites of the Wadi Ghadir shear zone.

A focus on parietal cells as a renewing cell population

The fact that the acidsecreting parietal cells undergo continuous renewal has been ignored by many gastroenterologists and cell biologists. In the past, it was thought that these cells were static. However, by using 3Hthymidine radioautography in combination with electron microscopy, it was possible to demonstrate that parietal cells belong to a continuously renewing epithelial cell lineage. In the gastric glands, stem cells anchored in the isthmus region are responsible for the production of parietal cells. The stem cells give rise to three main progenitors: prepit, preneck and preparietal cells. Parietal cells develop either directly from the noncycling preparietal cells or less commonly via differentiation of the cycling prepit and preneck cell progenitors. The formation of a parietal cell is a sequential process which involves diminishment of glycocalyx, production of cytoplasmic tubulovesicles, an increase in number and length of microvilli, an increase in number and size of mitochondria, and fi nally, expansion and invagination of the apical membrane with the formation of an intracellular canalicular system. Little is known about the genetic counterparts of these morphological events. However, the time dimension of parietal cell production and the consequences of its alteration on the biological features of the gastric gland are well documented. The production of a new parietal cell takes about 2 d. However, mature parietal cells have a long lifespan during which they migrate bidirectionally while their functional activity for acid secretion gradually diminishes. following an average lifespan of about 54 d, in mice, old parietal cells undergo degeneration and elimination. Various approaches for genetic alteration of the development of parietal cells have provided evidence in support of their role as governors of the stem/progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation programs. Breast cancer cells may disseminate early, before tumor diagnosis. Disseminated tumor cells, or DTCs, reside in the bone marrow, and may persist for years or even decades. Some of these cells may be re-activated to resume aggressive growth, and eventually become overt bone metastases. Recent studies have begun to shed light on this complicated process and revealed multiple steps and intermediate states of colonizing DTCs. However, how cancer-host interactions evolve during this process needs to be further understood. most of our current knowledge of the bone microenvironment is obtained through studies looking for the hematopoietic stem cell(HSC) niche. Although this long-standing question has not yet been resolved, our search for the HSC niche has resulted in a detailed map of various cell types in the bone marrow. furthermore, various techniques used to find the HSC niche may also be adapted for finding the cancer cell niche. In this article, we will review the recent progress in both the DTC and HSC areas with a focus on their potential microenvironment niches. We will also discuss how to apply what we have learned from HSC studies to map DTCs in the bone context. We hope to stimulate thoughts and ideas to further elucidate the bone colonization process, and develop potential therapeutic interventions.

A physically based algorithm for land surface emissivity retrieval from combined mid-infrared and thermal infrared data

On the basis of the concept of the two-channel Temperature-Independent Spectral Indices (TISI), a physically based method is developed to extract the directional emissivities in mid-infrared and thermal infrared channels from day-night space measurements. A phenomenol-ogical model with three parameters is also proposed in this paper to describe the angular variations of the reflectivity (or emissivity). Having applied the proposed method to AVHRR data on an area covering the Iberian Peninsula (rather vegetated) and on a region centered on Tunisia (arid area), one can see from the results that the terrestrial surfaces do not behave as Lambertian reflector and angular variations of bidirectional reflectivity for bare soils appear to be azimuth-independent whereas those for vegetation present a pronounced backscattering effect. As for directional emissivities, values of vegetated areas are found to be higher and remain rather constant whatever the view angle is. On the contrary, on arid areas, values are found to be rather low and present significant angular variations.

Effect of weld faying part groove shape on reduction of inner flash in steel pipe joints fabricated by friction welding

microwave-assisted catalytic oxidative desulfurization of gasoil fuel using synthesized CuO-ZnO nanocomposites

Recently, organosulfur removal from liquid petroleum fuels is very significant aspect of environment protecting and fuel cell requests. Therefore, improved approaches to remove sulfur are still essential. In the present work, a simple catalytic oxidative desulfurization (CODS) system for Iraqi gasoil fraction has been successfully developed using CuO-ZnO nanocomposites as catalysts, and H 2O 2 as oxidant under microwave irradiation. The main reaction parameters influencing sulfur conversion including microwave power, irradiation time, catalyst dosage and H 2O 2 to gasoil volume ratio have been investigated. The CuO-ZnO nanocomposites was synthesized with different weight ratios and characterized by XRD, fE-SEm, Afm and BET surface area methods. The results reveal that, high sulfur conversion (93%) has been achieved under suitable conditions of microwave CODS as follows: microwave power of 540 W, irradiation time of 15 min, catalyst dosage of 8 g/L (0.4 g), and H 2O 2 ∶gasoil volume ratio of 0.3. The catalyst reusability shows that the synthesized catalyst can be reused five times without an important loss in its activity.

Drainage vs. non-drainage after cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis:a retrospective study

many surgeons practice prophylactic drainage after cholecystectomy without reliable evidence,this study was conducted to answer the question whether to drain or not to drain after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis.A retrospective review of all patients who had cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis in Aseer Central Hospital,Abha,Saudi Arabia,was conducted from April 2010 to April *** were extracted from hospital case *** data included clinical presentation,routine investigations and liver function *** data included excessive adhesions,bleeding,bile leak,and drain *** cases such as pericholecystic collections,mucocele and empyema were also *** who needed therapeutic drainage were *** data included hospital stay,volume of drained fluid,time of drain removal,and drain site *** study included 103 patients allocated into two groups;group A（n = 38） for patients with operative drain insertion and group B（n = 65） for patients without drain *** number of patients with preoperative diagnosis of acute non-complicated cholecystitis was significantly greater in group B（80%） than group A（36.8%）（P 〈 0.001）.Operative time was significantly longer in group *** patients who were converted from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy were in group *** analysis revealed that hospital stay was significantly（P 〈 0.001） longer in patients with preoperative *** was no added benefit for prophylactic drain insertion after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis in non-complicated or in complicated cases.
