Objective: To investigate the effects of probiotic bacteria on cisplatin(CP)-induced nephrotoxicity. methods: In the present study, 50 Sprague-Dawley rats were used and randomly divided into five groups including control, CP, probiotic bacteria treatment groups with different doses(0.5 and 1 mL) and only probiotic bacteria group. After CP and probiotic administration on seven days, rats sacrificed under anesthesia on the eighth day. The serum urea, creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen levels were analyzed. In renal tissue, malondialdehyde levels, superoxide dismutase and glutathione activity, interleukin-8, interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-alpha levels were determined and histopathological and immunohistochemical changes were also examined. Results: According to results, urea, creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels as well as kidney weights increased in CP group. Also, CP induced inflammation, oxidative stress, DNA damage and apoptosis in kidney tissue and caused histopathological changes. Administration of the high dose of probiotic bacteria could prevent these changes and damages. Conclusions: This study reveals that probiotic bacteria has protective effects on CP-induced renal damage in rats.

In this study,a groundwater exploration survey was conducted using the DC Resistivity(DCR)method in a hydrogeological setting containing a perched *** data were gathered and an electrical tomography section was recovered using conventional four-electrode instruments with a Schlumberger array and a two-dimensional(2D)inversion *** proposed scheme was tested over a synthetic threedimensional(3D)subsurface model before deploying it in a field *** proposed method indicated that gathering data with simple four-electrode instruments at stations along a line and 2D inversion of datasets at multiple stations can recover depth intervals of the studied aquifer in the hydrogeological setting even if it has a 3D *** this study,2D inversion of parallel profiles formed a pseudo-3D volume of the subsurface resistivity structures and mapped out multiple resistive(>25 ohm·m)bodies at shallow(between 50-100 m)and deep sections(>150 m).In general,the proposed method is convenient to encounter geological units that have limited vertical and spatial extensions in any direction and presents resistivity contrast from groundwater-bearing geologic materials.

In this study, the processing and mechanical properties of porous metal matrix composites(mmCs) composed of spheroidal cast iron chips(GGG40) and bronze chips(CuSn10) and formed by hot isostatic pressing were investigated. Bronze chips(CuSn10) were used as a matrix component, and spheroidal cast iron(GGG40) chips were used as a reinforcement component. The mmCs were produced with different CuSn10 contents(90 wt%, 80 wt%, 70 wt%, and 60 wt%). The hot isostatic pressing process was performed under three different pressures and temperatures. The produced mmCs were characterized using density tests, Brinell hardness tests, and compression tests. In addition, the consolidation mechanism was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The test results were compared with those for bulk CuSn10 and bulk GGG40. mechanical tests results revealed that the metallic chips can be recycled by using hot pressing and that the mechanical properties of the produced mmCs were similar to those of bulk CuSn10. XRD and microscopy studies showed that no intermetallic compounds formed between the metallic chips. The results showed that the CuSn10 and GGG40 chips were consolidated by mechanical interlocking.

Early detection of response to imatinib therapy for gastrointestinal stromal tumor by using 18F-FDG-positron emission tomography and computed tomography imaging

A 41-year old female with metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor was referred to 18F-FDG-positron emission tomography and computed tomography （PET/CT） scan before and after one-month treatment with imatinib （Glivec, Gleevec, Novartis, Basel, Switzerland）, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor （400 mg/d）. metabolic response was evaluated before and after one month of therapy. The decrease of the maximum standardised uptake value （SUV） was 79% （from 9.8 to 2.1）. Positron emission tomography demonstrated complete metabolic response after one-month of imatinib treatment. Additionally, the previous lesion was compared with the coronal computerized tomographic image. There was no difference in the size of the tumor before and after therapy according to CT images. However, metabolic activity was inhibited. 18F-FDG-PEr is a valuable method for the detection of response to one-month imatinib treatment in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Political Skill of Narcissistic Leaders

A vast number of researches and studies have been conducted on narcissism, since the term was used to explain a psychological phenomenon in 1898. However, the discussions about narcissists as organization members or leaders have recently become a research topic in the organizational sciences. In this scope, the recent research on narcissism indicates that narcissistic leaders can either cause organizational tragedies or contribute to organizational success by their great vision. In addition to narcissism, another popular leadership feature is political skill which has attracted considerable attentions in recent years, and become one of the important topics of management studies. moreover, political skill has been asserted to be a positive characteristic which is related to develop vision and team insight as well as to increase in members＇ trust and support; whereas narcissism has both harmful and beneficial effects on organizations. In this study, the relationships between the dimensions of narcissism and political skill are examined via the 16-item Narcissistic Personality Inventory （NPI） and the 18-item Political Skill Inventory. Analysis has shown that the authority, which is the adaptive dimension of narcissism, correlates positively with social astuteness and networking ability dimensions of political skill. Accordingly entitlement, which is one of the maladaptive dimensions of narcissism, correlates significantly and negatively with the networking ability, interpersonal influence and apparent sincerity dimensions of political skill. When political skill is considered as a composite score, the findings indicate that the authority dimension of narcissism has a positive effect whereas, the entitlement dimension has a negative effect on political skill. Besides, implications for future studies are discussed
