Nichel-phosphorus(Ni-P)coatings are deposited on mild steel by using an electroless plating *** effect of three calix[4]arene derivatives,namely tetra methyl ester-P-tertbutyl calix[4]arene(Calix1),tetra acid-P-tert-butyl calix[4]arene(Calix2)and tetra methyl P-tert-butyl-thicalix[4]arene ester(Calix3)on the deposition rate,the deposit composition,and the morphological surface was investigated and the study of growth mechanisms has delivered useful information about the surface properties of *** is found that these additives modify the deposition rate and the nickel crystallization *** fact,the Calix1 and Calix3 act as an accelerator,while Calix2 acts as an inhibitor for the nickel ***,it is shown that the chemical bath is more stable with calix[4]arene derivatives addition and the obtained deposits are compact and *** is observed also that the nickel content increases with *** the other hand,the X-ray diffraction showed that the orientation peaks are intensified at{111}in the presence of Calix2,confirming obtained results of EDAX *** cyclic voltammetry revealed that the tested additives strongly influence the cathodic process and slightly affect the hypophosphite ***,it is found that these compounds improve the anticorrosion efficiency of Ni-P coating on the mild steel substrate in 3%(mass)NaCl,where its polarization resistance increases with Calix2 and Calix3 addition.

Assessing the vulnerability of forest ecosystems in the climate change context is a challenging task as the mechanisms that determine this vulnerability cannot be directly *** on the ecological interrelationships between forests and climate,the present review focused on providing current information about vulnerability assessments of cork oak(Quercus suber L.)forests in the mediterranean basin,especially,in the Kroumirie region(northwest Tunisia),currently under historic extreme drought *** comparing recent findings in this region,we synthesized data on cork oak decline and mortality collected during the historic drought years 1988–1995 *** change impacts cork forest decline,with special interest shown in elevated temperatures and drought;cork oak forest regeneration,and the adaptation of the Kroumirie forest to climate change,are reviewed *** studied region has been influenced largely by frequent prolonged drought periods,especially from 1988 to *** were found to consistently have a more detrimental impact on the growth and mortality rates of cork oak *** oak mortality was recorded for up to 63,622 *** the future,more research studies and observational data will be needed,which could represent an important key to understand ecosystem processes,and to facilitate the development of better models that project climate change impacts and *** study is useful for researchers and forestry decision makers to develop the appropriate strategies to restore and protect ecosystems,and to help anticipate potential future droughts and climate change.

This study aims to examine the effect of replacing vanadium by niobium and iron on the tribological behavior of hot-isostatic-pressed titanium alloy （Ti-6Al-4V） biomaterial, using a ball-on-disk-type oscillating tribometer, under wet conditions using physiological solution in accordance with the ISO7148 standards. The tests were carried out under a normal load of 6 N, with an AISI 52100 grade steel ball as a counter face. The morphological changes and structural evolution of the nanoparticle powders using different milling times （2, 6, 12 and 18 h） were studied. The morphological characterization indicated that the particle and crystallite size continuously decrease with increasing milling time to reach the lowest value of 4 nm at 18-h milling. The friction coefficient and wear rate were lower in the samples milled at 18 h （0.226, 0.297 and 0.423; and 0.66 × 10-2, 0.87 × 10-2 and 1.51 × 10-2 μm3 N-1 i, tm-1） for Ti-6Al-4Fe, Ti-6A1-7Nb and Ti-6Al-4V, respectively. This improvement in friction and wear resistance is attributed to the grain refinement at 18-h milling. The Ti-6Al-4Fe samples showed good tribological performance for all milling times.

Qualitative and Comparative Study of Different methods of Interpolation for the mapping of Groundwater Salinity: Case Study of Thermal Waters Used for Irrigation in Northeastern Algeria

Faced with the scarcity of surface water accentuated by climate change, particularly in many arid and semi-arid countries, the quality of groundwater used for irrigation is a concern to agronomists and hydrogeologists. When these waters are of deep origin, they may have high mineralization and chemical compositions unsuitable for irrigation;in particular, they may alter soils and crops. It is therefore important to optimize the spatial estimation of the salinity of these waters and contribute to better knowledge of their quality, through an adapted and robust statistical and geostatistical approach. In the case of north-eastern Algeria, the objective of this study is to characterize the quality of deep waters and to test two interpolation methods (Inverse distance weight and ordinary Kriging) of their electrical conductivity (EC) as an indicator of their salinity and of the risk of damaging irrigated soils. 51 groundwater samples were taken in this region where there are many thermal springs, the water of which is used for irrigation and often is highly mineralized (EC between 0.6 and 26.6 dS/m). The geology is composed of karstic rocks crossed by large faults that allow deep water to rise. Based on major elements contents, analysis of the hydrochemical facies of these waters shows that the main facies are hyperchlorinated sodium (38%) and sulfated calcium (32%). The RSC (Residual Sodium Carbonate) and SAR (Irrigation water salt) indexes were used to assess the water quality. Surface morphology Investigation of Tunisian Dromedary Hair

In raw materials of dromedary hair, there are two distinct fibre populations： The fine one is of textile relevance and the coarse one is rather worthless and must be as a rule separated prior to spinning and subsequent processing. The fibre surface morphology and fibre fineness of Tunisian dromedary hair has been investigated by means of scanning electron microscope （SEm）. SEm microscopic method provides the fibre diameter, the scale shape, the scale frequency and scale height. The results show that dehaired dromedary fibre presents a relatively low mean fibre diameter （≈ 17 μm） with a high coefficient of variation （CV ≈ 25%）. The scales of the dromedary fibre are on average extremely long and quite visible, they tend not to protrude from the fibre, appear almost convex, and provide a wavy appearance in profile of the relatively coarse fibre. On counting the scale frequency, that is, the number of scale margins within a determined fibre length of 100 μm on the surface of a fine （diameter 〈 30 μm） and coarse （diameter 〉 30 μm） dromedary fibre, comes out roughly five at eight and eight at twelve scale margins, respectively. The mean height of the cuticle scale is 0.12μm and 0.24 μm, respectively, for fine and coarse dromedary fibre. These explain why dromedary fibres present a soft touch due to the prominence of the scale edges. This aspect of the surface structure has a high correlation with the felting capacity of the matter, and contributes to the concepts of handle and gloss.
