Statistical Study of the Geoeffectivity of Halo Coronal mass Ejections Associated with X-Class Flares during Solar Cycles 23 and 24

By analysing a long series of data (1996-2019), we show that solar cycle 23 was more marked by violent solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CmEs) compared to solar cycle 24. In particular, the halo coronal mass ejections associated with X-class flares appear to be among the most energetic events in solar activity given the size of the flares, the speed of the CmEs and the intense geomagnetic storms they produce. Out of eighty-six (86) X-class halo CmEs, thirty-seven (37) or 43% are highly geoeffective;twenty-four (24) or approximately 28% are moderately geoeffective and twenty-five (25) or 29% are not geoeffective. Over the two solar cycles (1996 to 2019), 71% of storms were geoeffective and 29% were not. For solar cycle 23, about 78% of storms were geoeffective, while for solar cycle 24, about 56% were geoeffective. For the statistical study based on speed, 85 halo CmEs associated with X-class flares were selected because the CmE of 6 December 2006 has no recorded speed value. For both solar cycles, 75.29% of the halo CmEs associated with X-class flares have a speed greater than 1000 km/s. The study showed that 42.18% of halo (X) CmEs with speeds above 1000 km/s could cause intense geomagnetic disturbances. These results show the contribution (in terms of speed) of each class of halo (X) CmEs to the perturbation of the Earth’s magnetic field. Coronal mass ejections then become one of the key indicators of solar activity, especially as they affect the Earth.

Introduction: Ureteroscopy is a minimally invasive endoscopic surgery which provides access to the ureter, pyelon and calyceal cavities via the urethra and the bladder. Laser ureteroscopy uses the laser as an energy source to treat the stone and eliminate it naturally. minimally invasive endoscopic methods are struggling to become popular in sub-Saharan African countries, especially for the upper urinary tract. The objective of our work was to report the results of our first laser ureteroscopy experience in the department. materials and methods: This was a prospective and descriptive study running from December 1, 2023 to February 19, 2024. Included in our study was any case of upper urinary tract stone operated by Laser ureteroscopy. The characteristics of the lithiasis were determined by CT scan. Sterilization of urine was verified by carrying out a cytobacteriological examination of urine. Ureteral lithiasis was approached by semi-rigid ureteroscopy. Renal lithiasis was immediately addressed by flexible ureteroscopy. Ureteroscopy was coupled with a Holmium YAG laser. A double J ureteral catheter was placed after the operation. A 230 µm laser fiber was used in each case with a generator with a power of 35 watts (Storz Calculase III type). An access sheath was used in all cases of flexible ureteroscopy. The parameters studied were: sociodemographic characteristics, lithiasis (site, size, number, density, topography), type of anesthesia, duration of laser use, duration of intervention, postoperative outcomes. Data entry and analysis were carried out using the software (Word 2016 and SPSS). Result: We collected 30 cases of laser ureteroscopy. The average age was 37 years with extremes of 9 and 79 years. The male gender was more represented. The most common age group was 24-39 years old. Renal colic was the most frequent reason for admission, 12 patients (40%). On physical examination, lumbar tenderness was present in 47% (14 patients). ECBU was positive in 4 patients

Introduction: HIV, the human immunodeficiency virus, is the etiological agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The aim of this study was to assess the evolution of the viral load in patients under treatment. methodology: This was a study carried out from July 2017 to June 2022 at the Point G University Hospital laboratory. The determination of the viral load of patients was carried out by PCR on the ABOTT m2000sp/rt platform. Results: A total of 129 patients infected with HIV-1, aged 19 to 72 years with a mean age of 40.05 years ± 10.71;all on antiretroviral chemotherapy. The female gender predominated among our patients. The most common treatment regimen was 2INTI + 1INNTI with 72.9% followed by 2INTI + 1INI with 13.2%. As for the combinations of molecules, the combination TDF + 3TC + EFV and TDF + 3TC + DTG predominated, respectively 65.1% and 13.2%. 89.9% of our patients had undetectable viremia after 12 months of treatment (p m 681315.65 copies/ml ± 1616908.484 to m0 at 5742.36 copies /ml ± 35756.883 at m12 (p Conclusion: Generally speaking, antiretroviral treatment had contributed to controlling viral loads, however the therapeutic combination TDF + 3TC + DTG had made it possible to obtain more patients with undetectable viremia instead.

Decay characters of charges on an insulator surface after different types of discharge

In an insulating system including solid and gas dielectrics, discharge type has a strong impact on charge accumulation at the interface between two dielectrics, and hence charge decay. In order to clarify the influence, a surface charge measurement system was constructed, and three types of discharge, i.e. surface discharge, and low intensity and high intensity coronas, were introduced to cause surface charge accumulation. The decay behavior of surface charges after different types of discharge was obtained at various temperatures. It was found that total surface charges monotonically decreased with time, and the decay rate became larger as temperature increased. However, after a surface discharge or a high intensity corona, surface charge density in the local area appeared to fluctuate during the decay process. Compared with this, the fluctuation of surface charge density was not observed after a low intensity corona. The mechanisms of surface charge accumulation and decay were analysed. moreover, a microscopic physical model involving charge production, accumulation, and decay was proposed so that the experimental results could be explained.

The electrochemical hydrogenation of HmF to BHmF is an elegant alternative to the conventio nal thermocatalytic route for the production of high-value-added chemicals from biomass *** virtue of the wide potential window with promising Faradic efficiency(FE) towards BHmF,Cu-based electrode has been in the center of ***,its structure-activity relationship remains ambiguous and its intrinsic catalytic activity is still *** this work,we develop a two-step oxidation-reduction strategy to reconstruct the surface atom arrangement of the Cu foam(CF).By combination of multiple quasi-situ/in-situ techniques and density functional theory(DFT) calculation,the critical factor that governs the reaction is demonstrated to be facet effect of the metallic Cu crystal:Cu(110) facet accounts for the most favorable surface with enhanced chemisorption with reactants and selective production of BHmF,while Cu(100) facet might trigger the accumulation of the by-product 5,5'-bis(hydroxy methy)hydrofurion(BHH).With the optimized composition of the facets on the reconstructed Cu(OH)_(2)-ER/CF,the performance could be noticeably enhanced with a BHmF FE of 92.3% and HmF conversion of 98.5% at a potential of -0.15 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode(***) in 0.1 m KOH *** work sheds light on the incomplete mechanistic puzzle for Cu-catalyzed electrochemical hydrogenation of HmF to BHmF,and provides a theoretical foundation for further precise design of highly efficient catalytic electrodes.

This article reports the results of our investigations on electronic and transport properties of zinc blende gallium antimonide (zb-GaSb). Our ab-initio, self-consistent and non-relativistic calculations used a local density approximation potential (LDA) and the linear combination of atomic orbital formalism (LCAO). We have succeeded in performing a generalized minimization of the energy, using the Bagayoko, Zhao and Williams (BZW) method, to reach the ground state of the material while avoiding over-complete basis sets. Consequently, our results have the full physical content of density functional theory (DFT) and agree with available, corresponding experimental data. Using an experimental room temperature lattice constant of 6.09593?, we obtained a direct band gap of 0.751 eV, in good agreement with room temperature measurements. Our results reproduced the experimental locations of the peaks in the total density of valence states as well as the measured electron and hole effective masses. Hence, this work points to the capability of ab-initio DFT calculations to inform and to guide the design and the fabrication of semiconductor based devices—provided a generalized minimization of the energy is performed.

We report accurate, calculated electronic, transport, and bulk properties of zinc blende gallium arsenide (GaAs). Our ab-initio, non-relativistic, self-con-sistent calculations employed a local density approximation (LDA) potential and the linear combination of atomic orbital (LCAO) formalism. We strictly followed the Bagayoko, Zhao, and William (BZW) method, as enhanced by Ekuma and Franklin (BZW-EF). Our calculated, direct band gap of 1.429 eV, at an experimental lattice constant of 5.65325 Å, is in excellent agreement with the experimental values. The calculated, total density of states data reproduced several experimentally determined peaks. We have predicted an equilibrium lattice constant, a bulk modulus, and a low temperature band gap of 5.632 Å, 75.49 GPa, and 1.520 eV, respectively. The latter two are in excellent agreement with corresponding, experimental values of 75.5 GPa (74.7 GPa) and 1.519 eV, respectively. This work underscores the capability of the local density approximation (LDA) to describe and to predict accurately properties of semiconductors, provided the calculations adhere to the conditions of validity of DFT.

Epidemiological and Clinical Profile of Breast Cancer at Bamako Radiotherapy Center

Breast cancer is a major public health problem because of its incidence and mortality. Purpose: To establish the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of breast cancer seen at the radiotherapy center at the mali Hospital of Bamako. Patients and methods: It was a retrospective, descriptive study of data from patients seen for breast cancer at the Center of Radiotherapy of mali Hospital between April 2014 and December 2016. The parameters studied were: age, sex, family history of breast cancer, menopausal status, parity, breast tumor location, histological type, histological grade, cancer classification stage. Results: 134 cases of breast cancer were collected, with a frequency of 15%. The sex ratio (H/F) of 0.007. The patient’s mean age was 47 ± 11 years old. The most represented age groups were 33 - 47 years old with 45.5% and 48 - 62 years old with 39%. Three percent (3%) of patients had a family history of breast cancer. Fifty (50%) of the patients were menopausal. The main clinical signs found were : mammary nodules (98%), mastodynia (65%), nodes (67%). Invasive ductal carcinomas were found in 94% of patients, followed by infiltrating lobular carcinomas with 3.7% and metaplastic carcinomas with 1.7%. SBR Grades II and III were mostly found with 37% and 23%. The average tumor size was 87 mm ± 43. Stage III was predominantly represented with 72%, followed by Stage II with 24% and Stages I and IV with 2% each. Conclusion: Breast cancer is common and reaches both before and after 50 years;the diagnosis is usually late;hence it is the importance of raising awareness and screening before the age of 50 and popularizing some complementary tests to better understand the prognosis of this disease and promote more targeted and conservative treatments that will improve survival.
